If you feel like going for a wander, you can spend hours exploring the bush and native grasslands on the property and if you're keen on climbing the hill you get rewarded with amazing views over the Great Western Tiers. Why not take your mountain bike up there and enjoy the downhill ride afterwards? Sunsets are spectacular at Stringybark and the skies phenomenal during clear nights. Although it feels like the end of the world, surrounded by bush and wildlife, we're only 30 minutes drive from Launceston CBD, Ben Lomond National Park and Josef Chromy's winery and only a 20 minute drive from Launceston Airport, making it a perfect base to explore Launceston and surrounds. You need to be fully self contained and there are no amenities. But there is a beautiful lake with jetty to swim in. We live on the property, just a stone's throw from the camp site, so if you ever need anything, just shout out. Dogs are permitted, however strictly on lead only to protect the wildlife and our sheep. If your dog gets very excited around wildlife or sheep, this may not be a suitable stay, since they might come right up to your camp. Please note, that Stringybark is a working property. While we'll always respect your privacy and keep noise levels to a minimum, please be aware that we do work on the land and that tools, building material and other rural property stuff can be present at any time (never on the campsite though). Please ALWAYS supervise children and pets, particularly in the following areas: -bush and grass areas where snakes can be present most of the year -around the shed where we store farm materials -around our lakes which are not fenced in We're so excited to be sharing our piece of paradise with campers from near and far and from all walks of life :)

Our property runs beef and cultivates crops alongside the Ringarooma river, North East Tasmania. We often host mountain bike riders here to access the world-class trails at Derby. Nearby are many marked mountain trails, and numerous falls. Skiing is 1hr away in the winter. Our camping site is alongside cattle grazing paddocks and the Ringarooma river, and we offer one site only, to one group at a time, so it's yours exclusively. A toilet is available nearby. A gravel track descends to the river with a short steep bank preceding the flats. When the track reaches the river the camping site is just through the gate on the right. One gate and two wire gates may require opening on the way and these gates need to be closed again to prevent cattle from wandering. Electrical fencing is in use and alive - please be careful! Wood for your campfire is available to purchase, $15. I can supply fresh sourdough loaves $6 also fresh eggs $3perhalf doz, and fresh cows milk most of the year $5/2L. Fly fish for trout and cook over the coals for a treat. Welcome to bring your dog along, but please keep them under control.

The space has been designed to host large groups, so there are full facilities available to use, including 3 x compost toilets, a fully equipped communal kitchen with all plates, bowls, cups and cutlery, pots and pans, gas cookers and fresh running hot and cold water. There is also an undercover deck/hangout area, a shower block with 5 hot showers, and a wood-fired cedar barrel hot tub (refer to the extras section for hot tub use!). There are walking tracks throughout the property, including a track that leads directly to the beach (15 min walk) and another to our on-site fresh water creek for plunging in! We are surrounded by native wildlife and the property blooms with native Kunzea bushes, wattles, native cherries and various varieties of eucalyptus. There is a beautiful large fresh water river and waterhole just down the road (15 minute walk, or 2 minute drive), and aside from the surf beach down the front, we are also only a 10-15 minute drive from a bunch of other beautiful and popular surf beaches on the east coast. The whole area is great for fishing, boating, surfing, bike riding, walking and short hikes. We are a 10 minute drive from Falmouth, a 25 minute drive from the St Helens mountain bike trails, a 30 minute drive from Bicheno and Douglas Apsley National Park, a 45 minute drive from the infamous Bay of Fires and an hours drive from the Freycinet National Park. We only open up 5 sites at a time, to ensure everyone has plenty of space and a beautiful experience on the land. The vegetation also provides significant protection on windy days compared to many other open places. Native animals and birdlife abound the location. There is a community pergola area beside the substantial water hole which has a small jetty allowing easy access for swimming. There is also a stone barbecue and fire pit area available on suitable weather conditions. There are ocean views from the property's main road areas, which also provide a large area of flatish firm ground with large areas providing easy maneuverability and turning. The property is 2-3km from the main highway turn off that leads to the Douglas Apsley National Park. The corner of the property is only 50 meters from the park edge, with the Parks main access several km further along Rosedale Rd. The turn off is only 2 km from the town edge. It is sealed road except for the last 100meters and in good condition. FIRES. Ok unless a fire ban. GOOD BAGS OF WOOD ON SITE FOR $20. NO OUTSIDE WOOD CAN BE BROUGHT ONTO THE PROPERTY AND BURNT. Spacious and relaxing setting. Plenty of activities enjoyed by our family from kayaking down the river and riding into Derby. Friendly and welcoming host in Rosie, thank you for sharing your property with us. Such a wonderful space to enjoy and entertain the kids. The highlight for us was being lucky enough to see a platypus and kayak with it popping up alongside us in the river. We look forward to coming back.

This is a very flat and well-organised place, and it’s easy to get to. It’s close to the village, where you can find toilets with showers and a water refill point. The area is quiet and peaceful, but also great for families. There are books and games available, and plenty of open space for kids to run around or ride their bikes. You can buy homemade products from the farm or nearby areas, like jam and honey. There is also a lot of useful information about things to do around the area. Safety is well covered, with a snake bite kit and a fire extinguer available. The best part of our stay was the wildlife. After three weeks trying to see a platypus without success, we were very lucky here. We saw a rakali at dusk and two platypus at sunrise. One of them was still swimming and playing later in the morning. Check-out is at 12:00, and the platypus was still there when we left.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a fantastic experience at Old Mac’s Farm in Launceston. It’s a beautifully kept, family-friendly place with a really relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The kids absolutely loved getting up close with the animals, and there was plenty to keep them entertained without feeling rushed or overcrowded. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the animals, which made the experience even better. Everything was well organised, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, making it easy to enjoy the day at your own pace. A perfect spot for families, visitors, or anyone wanting a wholesome day out. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend Old Mac’s Farm to anyone visiting the area.

We had a beautiful spot by the river with easy access into Derby. The site was huge with lots of space. The owner Rosie was just lovely. Our son was unwell during our stay and her help went above and beyond, we appreciated the kindness! We will be back again.

What an amazing place! Beautiful 1km ride into town and the tracks, we have a 3 yr old and a 6 yr old and it was really easy with them. So much better than staying in town. Caters well for little kids with swings, tramps and the container of toys. So peaceful and the river is amazing. We were even lucky enough to kayak with a platypus!!! 10/10

John and Leslie are amazing hosts . Their property is in a quiet pocket of the countryside in an awesome location to easily explore round Launceston and the Tamar valley wine route. With a maximum of five spots it’s beautiful and quiet. Drinking water at campsite and a toilet a short walk from site . Will definitely be back

We camped up at Nick’s Nook for one night, it was a great site, level and generously sized, we arrived to a fire pit waiting for us which we happily used. Quiet spot, very pretty surrounds and handy location. Would recommend.
