Tawney Farm's Wild & Woolly
8 sites · RVs, Tents126 acres · Summersville, WVWhat says agritourism more than a primitive campground on a sheep farm in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia? Here you’re only a short drive from the New River Gorge National Park where you can go whitewater rafting or take a hike and experience the stunning beauty of the gorge, swim or paddleboard in Summersville Lake or go rock climbing on one of around 150 routes on the crags of the lake. In addition, you’ll be within walking distance of the Gauley River with all it’s wild untamed beauty where you can kayak, swim, fish, paddleboard, or splash in a waterfall. Not to mention being on a sheep farm, you can have the opportunity to learn about wool and wool processing. You can even learn how to felt wool and take home your creation! The Tawney Farm is a small-scale wool sheep farm adjacent to the beautiful Gauley River National Recreation Area and just a short drive to the New River Gorge National Park. Our 126 acre farm lies nestled in between two beautiful mountains, one of them named Panther Mountain, in the Gauley River gorge. Here we raise Merino and Jacob sheep for wool where we process the fiber and either sell it to other fiber artists or felt it into crafts and hats ourselves. Our farm is also home to a miniature horse, chickens, and of course dogs and cats. In addition to the NRG and Summersville Lake and Dam, also close by are Carnifex Ferry Battleground State Park where you can see where a crucial civil war battle took place, as well as Babcock State Park with its iconic grist mill and waterfall. Our region has it all! But why stay in an overcrowded, commercial campground? Leave the beaten path and enjoy peaceful and private, safe and secure primitive camping on our mountain farm. We provide 8 sites on our farm for every camping style, from RV to tent, each with a table, fire pit and grill. All sites are spaciously separate from one another for privacy and perfect for couples who want to get away from it all, or for families or groups of friends who want to reconnect and catch up. Get away from it all! Experience the wilderness and wonder of West Virginia as only a native West Virginian could. Fry up some farm fresh eggs over the campfire or grill. Park-style grills, fire pit grills and tables are provided for your use. Very affordable firewood is available. And to make your "roughing it" camping experience not so rough, we've added a few amenities! Clean portajohns are provided as well as a common area with a dishwashing station and a "to die for" outdoor hot water shower (above-freezing temperatures permitting)! Drink in the beautiful views of the Gauley River gorge while hiking our nature trails and experience the sights and sounds of a real working farm. Green and lush in the summer and brilliant hues of red, gold and orange in the fall. Come see what the mountain lakes region of West Virginia has to offer at the Tawney Farm. DURING GAULEY WHITEWATER SEASON (SEPT. 6 - OCT. 15), THE PRICE IS DISCOUNTED TO $35/NIGHT AS WE BEGIN FESTIVAL-STYLE CAMPING. TENT, VEHICLE AND SMALL RV CAMPING (DRY-ONLY) ARE STILL PERMITTED, BUT THE ONLY DESIGNATED SITES AVAILABLE WILL BE THE WALK-IN AND HIKE-IN (MTN. TOP) SITES.

The Country, LLC
6 sites · RVs, Tents500 acres · New Castle, VAProud Veteran owned and operated business! Our farm is located within Jefferson National Forest in Craig County Virginia and one of the most scenic in our state. We have about 500 acres and only groomed camp spots with the closest two being 350 yards apart, so privacy is not a concern and what you will get. All but one of our spots are directly beside a crystal-clear creek (Johns Creek) and the other is nestled in the woods at the end of a field beside one of our ponds. Wildlife abounds at all spots, we even have Bald Eagles that are on our farm everyday. Once you see and experience our farm, we know you will absolutely love your decision for choosing us to stay with. We are very close to great hiking and biking as well. Only mins away from Virginia's Triple Crown of Hiking including McAfee Knob (the most photographed spot on the entire Appacian Trail). How The Country, LLC got its name: Being raised in Roanoke VA, I was “always” asking my parents if we were going to “The Country” where my grandparents lived in what we now call our little slice of heaven. After spending over 30 years away in the USAF (WTH...POL!!!), we returned home and couldn't wait to find a way to let others enjoy all our farm and the place I have always loved more than anywhere in the world! When trying to come up with the name, it came down to Granny and Granddaddy’s or The Country and you can guess which one we though would be the best! 😊 Portions of our farm are in its 5th generation (me) of ownership, and I hope it stays in our family for many years to come. That my friends is how and why "The Country, LLC" came to be and got its name! We will do everything we can to make your stay, no matter how long or short a special one! We pride ourselves in customer service, privacy, settings. You won’t find what we have anywhere else!!! Check us out on Facebook or call for more details, and book a reservation with us! We can't wait to see you and we're sure you will love it!

We are on a scenic bicycle / motorcycle route. Bonus - The 1800s Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm with its 16 remaining buildings, an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, is on property - please explore it! It was a self sustaining Appalachian homestead. The Pitsenbargers were hard workers, but also quite colorful characters who employed witch-doctoring, used healing herbs, and enjoyed entertaining, playing music, and making and drinking lots of hard cider. The main road to the Harrisonburg VA area went right by their house and they had a lot of visitors who took a break from their travels and their work to visit, i.e. "loaf." As a result, in the 1800s locals called the property "Loafer's Glory." We think the name is still perfect for the place! Come on out and relax - "loaf" a little bit!

Arcadia Sanctury
14 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents83 acres · VAArcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality. It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us.
