100 secluded acres located on the Gregory River approximately 15 minutes from Buxton township. The property is nestled amongst thousands of acres of national park for bush walkers an explorers. Guests need to be fully self contained and no toilets are on site. Access to the Gregory river enables fishing from the bank and a spot to place a crab pot to secure a local feed of fish or mud crab. There is also the option to put a kayak into the river from the bank. Campsites are located approximately 100m from the river bank so only a short walk to the water. Despite there being some snags, I have caught some very decent fish and crabs all from the property. For those wanting to spend a day on the water, I can guide guests in my boat to help land one of the many metre barramundi that call the river home. There are approximately 15 native beehives on the property and I am happy to show guests inside some hives as well as how to locate some in the wild for the interested bushwalkers and nature lovers. The property does not have power, water or toilets so please plan ahead. Significant rainfall can also make accessibility an issue along the 1km driveway so I would recommend a 4 wheel drive, however if it is dry a 2WD would be fine.

Dam Crazy? You would have to be to bypass over 620 acres of scenic bushland off the beaten track for your next camping getaway or stopover on your way on the Bruce Highway. An abundance of birdlife with over 135 different species found so far including a Powerful Owl. A magnificent 400 megalitre dam that now forms part of the natural landscape of this unique property. A hidden gem in the Wide Bay/Fraser Coast area of Queensland where relaxation, peace and privacy are unavoidable as are the sunsets and shooting stars in the clear skies above. We are 20 minutes from the quaint Childers Township and 50 minutes from Bundaberg. The property is totally private and caravans cannot been seen from the road, the owners live on the property and only booked guests are to enter the property offering security and peace of mind. Whether you want to bird watch, kayak, fish (catch and release only), hike or ride one of the many trails or sit, relax and read your favourite book, we promise a warm welcome; from the wildlife and the proprietors Tracie and Jimmy. Dam Crazy is also pet friendly, dogs must be cleaned up after and may be walked off leash on the walking trails (please be mindful of other campers, farm animals and wildlife), they may also swim in the dam but must be contained or kept on leash in the campsite areas. The dam is very deep and could have snags washed down in floods, so we suggest children wear life jackets, and MUST be supervised by adults at all times around the water. Our property is situated on the banks of the great sandy strait just 400m from the Tuan Boat ramp with access to Fraser Island by boat or kayak. We are surrounded by Tuan State Forest and wetlands. There is a medium sized dam on the property for swimming. The Tuan Forshore has a park, BBQ area and picnic tables as well as garbage disposal. There is plenty of space in the surrounding forests for mountain biking, motor-biking and walking. 3km down the road in Boonooroo you will find a large park with tennis court and public BBQ's. The bowls club and Golf Club just 3km away and serve meals on weekends. This site is suitable for caravans, RV's, camper trailers. There is NO toilet facility on the property. We are VERY dog friendly and can be off lead as long as the dogs are friendly towards people and other dogs and don't bite our horses. We also have other peoples horses agisting in paddocks. Activities you can do include boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, crabbing, walking, stand up paddle boarding, bird watching, kangaroo spotting, playing in the parks, beach tennis, mountain biking, hiking etc. Camp sites are far from the main house and other sites so you can have camp fires and play music, use generators without worry. Campers will need to be self contained (rubbish and toilets) and please leave your campsite the way you found it. Don't leave toilet paper or rubbish in fire pits please. Enter / Exit the main gate by pushing the code into the key pad. Gate closes after 20 seconds once it is fully open so be quick. NOTE: ***During Summer- November, December, January and February there are midgees (sandflies) at dusk and dawn and we do recommend midgee screening or spraying the mesh on your caravan windows as the standard mozzie mesh will not keep them out. Bring coils, a fan as they hate any breeze, bug spray and long sleeved pants and tops to wear in the evenings from about 5pm-7pm!*** *4X4's are recommended if you don't stay along the fence line as it can get muddy if there has been lots of rain. If you stay along the fence line you will be fine as the roads are compact and hard and the camp sites along this fence are higher up, they are marked with Fire Pits so camp here if you want to stay dry and get a good breeze.*

14. Bullyard Hall, Sports & Recreation Club Inc.

100%
(8)
53km from Woodgate · 40 sites · Tents, RVs
The town of Bullyard was developed primarily as a cane farming district in the late nineteenth century. The name, however, apparently relates to when a drover named CHARLES HOLMES was transporting bulls between Walla and Tantitha stations and he constructed a temporary yard for the bulls, hence "Bullyard". A railway station, called Kolan Railway Station, was erected in 1881 (on the Bundaberg-Mount Perry railway line, completed in 1884) and timber from the surrounding area was loaded onto trains there. Closer settlement, however, appears to have occurred somewhat later. A provisional school was established in 1901. Then becoming a state school in 1909 (and a new school built in 1933), reflecting a small, but growing population at this time. The district was dominated by cane farms supplying the nearby Bingera Sugar Mill. Bullyard Hall was built in 1908 by Samuel Kent on 10 acres of land purchased for that purpose. The hall was connected to electricity in 1952 and the hall was extended in 1957 with a bigger dance floor. Other additions included a stage, kitchen and ladies' room. The hall was repainted in the 1960s, with the exterior painted with linseed oil and burnt umber (giving the hall its distinctive appearance). The hall was, like other local public halls, used for social events such as dances. Movies were shown at the hall from the 1920s and it was also used for church services. Newspaper references from the 1930s through to the 1950s indicate the hall being used as a venue to sign up workers for the local cane crushing season. The hall grounds were also used for a range of sporting events. There are references to athletics competitions held at Bullyard from 1911 and the track was improved in 1913. A tennis club was formed in 1928 and tennis courts were constructed using crushed ant bed. Cricket was popular, so much so that the Cricket Club merged with the Hall Committee in 1930. Bullyard hosted cricket matches against local teams including Wallaville, Albionville, Gin Gin, Bucca and Bundaberg and the pitch was also constructed from ant bed, similar to the tennis courts.Bullyard Hall is located in the south-western corner of a 4 hectare reserve that in turn is located in the northern part of town on the eastern side of Bucca Road. A mostly circular fenced sports ground extends from the hall to the north and east. Most of the fenced, predominantly levelled grassed site has been cleared, some remaining scrub vegetation exists in the north and northeast and on the boundaries and it appears that the ring of trees on the perimeter of the sports ground have been deliberately planted. The hall consists of a low set weatherboard clad timber structure on timber stumps with a slight variation in height to level out the site and features a corrugated iron clad gable roof. An annex with skillion roof is attached on both sides of the main building. The main entrance is from the front via some steps onto a landing covered by a gable roof and through double timber doors. There are two casement windows on the façade, one at the main building covered by a straight window hood and a second at the right annex. The northern elevation facing the sports ground features a side entrance with access via some steps and three casement windows. On the southern elevation is another door flanked by two casement windows. A third annex, also with skillion roof, is attached at the rear of the hall. Three doors covered by an awning lead into this section. 1 large water tank is located towards the southern corner.A number of ancillary buildings are located in the vicinity of the hall, including a corrugated iron clad toilet block, stalls consisting of timber (including bush timber posts) and corrugated iron and a loading ramp.Men from Bullyard made a significant contribution to World War 1, indicated by the Honour Roll located inside the hall. In 2020 a water bore was placed on the grounds and in 2021 the hall had solar power installed, electricity wiring replaced, new meter box and sub box installed, refurbished glass windows, irrigation put in, 2 new water tanks and pumps purchased, smoke and heat detectors installed, security and spot lights installed. There are markets held monthly and fundraising events held throughout the year such as dances, bingo, car rally, a Halloween party to name a few.

Numbers are limited to ensure you have plenty of space and privacy! Campers must take all waste with them. Very good phone reception

Where to go

Bundaberg Region

Hemmed in by tropical fruit orchards and sugar cane plantations, the Bundaberg region is most famous for its Bundaberg Rum and Bundaberg Ginger Beer. Once you’ve explored the countryside, head to the beach town of Bargara to spot sea turtles along the coast or cruise out to the islands and coral reefs of the southern Great Barrier Reef. You can even camp on Lady Musgrave Island.

Fraser Coast

Across the Isis River, lively beach towns and sandy bays pepper the Fraser Coast, which stretches all the way down to Rainbow Beach. Swing by the heritage town of Maryborough, fish along the creek in Burrum Heads, and set sail on a whale-watching cruise from Hervey Bay. There’s plenty of choice for camping and glamping, including tent and caravan sites at the Cooloola camping area in Great Sandy National Park.

Fraser Island

Just south of Woodgate, Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and the star of the Great Sandy National Park. A natural paradise for outdoor adventurers, you can drive a 4WD along the beach, cool off with a swim in the Champagne Pools, and paddle around freshwater lakes in the heart of the rainforest. For the ultimate camping experience, escape the crowds at a remote bush camp in the dunes or pitch a tent right on the beach.

When to go

The beaches and wetlands of Woodgate and the Burrum Coast National Park are most popular through the summer months, and this is the best time for swimming, water sports, and turtle-watching along the coast. Don’t write off a winter visit, though. The Queensland sun shines year-round, and with average temperatures of 15–20°C, it’s the ideal time for hiking and fishing. August through October is also whale-watching season.
