There are 11 separate camp spots and all have a slashed track to the pit toilet. 4 in shady areas away from the gully that are suitable for Caravans. 3 located near the Gully, suitable for Caravans and larger groups and 4 that are located near the Gully but only suitable for camp trailers, roof top tents and smaller groups. Enjoy nature and feel free to explore the gully with it's many natural bridges and hidden animal habitats. As this is a working family farm, cattle from the remaining property will graze this Gully block from time to time so all gates must remain closed. We also ask that children are supervised at all times and advise that the Gully is not suitable for swimming. On the other side of the Gully there is a track that can be utilized for mountain bikes etc. It is a circuit of approximately 900m and includes, jumps, berms, up and down natural terrain. Kelsey Creek is a cane farming district and a small gauge train line goes past the property which makes for a lovely rural experience. Keep an eye out for the glow in the sky and you might get to witness a cane fire also. Being only 7 minutes west of Proserpine it is well located to take in the beauty of the Whitsundays. Gully Getaway is in an Environmental Protection Zone that restricts trees being felled and the removal of debris in the watercourse, so please do not use for firewood.

Platypus Bush Camp

20 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres · Finch Hatton, QLD
Hi Everyone and Welcome to our home and a very special property called Platypus Bush Camp. The property has been operating as a bushcamp / rainforest retreat for 40 years and from what we hear regularly it is one of Australia's most unique campsites and it feels nice too :) The bushcamp feels like you are going back in time and has a hint of Asia / South America with the building style and nature but you are in the Aussie rainforest / bush and then we trow in some country hospitality and humour so we can all enjoy our time. There are 4 creeks that flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole that is the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge. We are off grid but with all the modern amenities like flushing toilets, stunning hot showers with rainforest views (if you like), large fully equipped camp kitchens with everything you need, there is even a pizza oven and usb charging ports and you can see and hear the water from the kitchens and the dining areas. Accomodation options include:
 - 10 unpowered sites available which suit a variety of set ups including sites with your own private deck looking over the creek, shaded sites and sites with sun for solar - please refer to each site description for specific site size and photos. - 6 unpowered tent sites in our grassed where the main fire pit is located - no vehicles are permitted on the grassed area but parking is close by. - 3 private creekside huts / tree houses with stunning views, comfortable beds and bedding. Pets are welcome - as long as they are well behaved and owners clean up after them. There is a central fire pit with seating and cooking plate and an undercover fireplace / dining room as well if there is any rain or bring your own fire pit and use at your site. The property is located in the Pioneer Valley just outside Mackay, Queensland. We are 2 kilometres from the breathtaking Finch Hatton Gorge in the Eungella National Park. Just 1 hour drive from Mackay and 2 hours from Airlie Beach and the drive here is beautiful too. Two or three nights is a good amount of time to be able to explore the area including Eungella National Park, Finch Hatton Gorge (Araluen Cascades & Wheel of Fire) while still having time to relax at the Bushcamp. It will be nice to meet you. Shane and Family.

Finch Hatton farm stay

3 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Finch Hatton, QLD
Looking for peace and tranquility? Then this is your ideal location. Our farm offers 180-degree mountain views with lots of birds and wildlife to see. We are at the bottom of the rainforest, and you have access to the beautiful freshwater creek down the road to relax and cool off on the hot summer days. We purchased this property 18 months ago as a beautiful bush block and have been working hard to clear and develop it into a welcoming space for campers. We already offer a communal toilet and shower. This is the perfect spot for those who enjoy nature, a bit of adventure, and watching a space evolve into something truly special. We’d love for you to visit and be part of our journey. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve the site! Access is best suited to 4WD or high-clearance vehicles. Not suitable for all small cars. 2 x Vehicle/Tent site (4wd vehicle required when wet) 1 x RV/caravan site. (Valley View) ● Family-friendly ● Water is available at all sites. ●Communal toilet and hot shower available. ● Short walk to freshwater creek (Platypus may be spotted) ● Well-behaved dogs allowed, on leash only. No wifi. Some mobile coverage (great to get the kids off the screens). There is plenty of water, birds, wildlife, and sometimes a platypus. We had to re-home our 3 gorgeous cows so we can do some work on our grass areas. We have two very active and friendly Jack Russell dogs that may greet you from time to time. Sometimes you won't be able to access our farm due to the creek flooding in heavy rain. (Please check with us on the morning of your check-in for weather changes) The property is a 5-minute drive to Finch Hatton city center and FH Mountain Bike Tracks. Eungella National Park, which offers opportunities to view platypus from time to time, is only a short drive away. We only offer 3 sites so that it keeps your experience quiet and peaceful throughout your whole stay. There is plenty of room for you to spread out on your secluded site. Once we have shown you to the site, we'll leave you alone to enjoy it- no need to see anyone else if you don't want to! Note: We are a quiet, pet-friendly family camp, meaning a place of rest and adventure, not a place to blast music and annoy others.

Camping near Proserpine guide

Overview

Proserpine is in Queensland’s Whitsunday region, a short distance inland from Airlie Beach. It’s on both the Bruce Highway—the main north-south coastal-adjacent highway connecting Brisbane and Cairns—and the North Coast line, a railway that also connects Brisbane and Cairns. While many travellers use Airlie Beach as a jumping-off point for exploring the Whitsunday Islands, Proserpine is a solid alternative base, especially for campers who want to stay near the highway or railway. There are holiday parks within the town itself, and campsites at nearby Lake Proserpine.

Where to go

Whitsunday Islands National Park

The 74 Whitsunday Islands lie just off shore, and are a paradise for campers seeking white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters. Tent campers have options on Whitsunday and Hook Islands, from rainforest, grassland, or beach-side campsites. Sites are basic, with toilet facilities and picnic tables at most, but you’ll need to bring your own water and gas stoves as open fires aren’t permitted.

Conway National Park

Located on the Conway Peninsula south of Airlie Beach, this large area of lowland tropical rainforest is a fun mainland escape in the Whitsunday region. There are three basic camping areas in Conway National Park: Swamp Bay bush camp is accessible only on foot or by boat or kayak, while Repulse Creek and Bloodwood camping areas are only accessible on foot or by mountain bike. Conway Beach is located at the southern end of the park and is accessible by road from Proserpine via Mount Julian. There’s a well-equipped holiday park at Conway Beach.

Lake Proserpine

About a half-hour drive from Proserpine town, Lake Proserpine (also called the Peter Faust Dam) was formed by the damming of the Proserpine River. It’s a popular fishing spot as there are many large barramundi fish here (fishing permits are required). It’s also popular among water sports enthusiasts. There’s a large lakeside camping area that’s set up for fishers and boaties.

When to go

The tropical climate of this part of Queensland means domestic travellers are drawn here when it’s cold down south. The weather is warm even from June to August, when southern Australia shivers, while September to November are high season. While Proserpine and the Whitsundays also get busy during Christmas and over the Australian summer school holidays, the low season is from January to March, when the weather is wet and not ideal for lounging on a beach.
