The Cooke Family welcomes you to “Hopevale”. A beautiful 113 acre property bordered by Wrattens National Park at the edge of the world in the peaceful Widgee district of greater Gympie. Jason, a landscaper by trade, and Jacinta a teacher by profession, met many years ago at a national Christian youth conference. Four beautiful children later and many years down the track, they bought Hopevale as a blank cattle fattening property in 2018. After much hard work, they have made it what it is today, with plans to continually improve. We have different camp options available, one of which is set up for those guests also wanting to stay with horses or just have a larger group booking. Guests will have access to a toilet and shower throughout their stay which is within walking distance from each of the campsites. Campfires and pets are welcome. The property has only had 4 farming owners in its 110 odd years since it was first surveyed and selected in 1915. The Hillcoats, Bishops, Cotters, and now the Cooke’s. The families over the years have used the property for timber getting, dairy, beef and small cropping. The property is geologically rich with volcanic soils, sandstone escarpments full of caves and overhangs. The mighty Wrattens Falls sits to the back of the property in the National Park and is a sight to behold in full flow. It feeds the head waters of the western branch of Widgee Creek which meanders through the property. The subtropical dry rainforest clad mountains are dominated by the majestic Bunya and Hoop pines and are a testament to what once was covering the entire property before being cleared for farming. Remnant riparian creek lines are botanically rich and diverse holding Red and White Cedar, Teak, Silky oak and many other coveted timber trees harvested back in the day. There are many species of animals and birds that call Hopevale home. From water dragons, frogs and fish in the creeks, monitors, wallabies, deer, koalas, possums and phascogales in the eucalypts. Red-back wrens, pardalotes, rainbow bee-eaters, finches and quail call the open grasses home while whip birds give their iconic call in the forest. Above, birds of prey ride the thermals of the valley looking for their next meal. “We have been blessed beyond measure with a small slice of God’s wonderful creation that we would love to share with you.”

Our venue and campgrounds are situated at the old Jimna State School property. The school closed in 2009 with the last students attending in 2006. It was then sold by the Qld government and has been rezoned as a Camping, Recreation and Events Venue. We have retained all the old school facilities for our campers to enjoy. There is a children’s playground and multi-purpose tennis court for everyone to enjoy. We provide tennis rackets, balls and basketballs free of charge to our campers. There is also no charge or fee to use the court. On most Sundays afternoons (weather permitting), we have social tennis where everyone is welcome to join in. The old school toilet blocks have the addition of hot showers and all toilet facilities are the flushing type. Campfires are permitted and there are small mobile fire pits provided so wherever you set up camp you can have your campfire right beside you. Note: There are no ground fires permitted and at certain times of the year Qld Rural Fire brigade may enforce a total fire ban. We have our “Caffeine Injection” kiosk on-site for the weekends and school holidays. Get your morning caffeine fix as well as bagged ice, firewood, ice creams, snacks, cold drinks etc etc Then we have the old school principals residence aka “The Bush Holiday House“. It is fully self-contained and all linen is provided. Just BYO food & drinks. We offer this for one night stays and longer. Jimna is a tiny town immersed in the Australian bush; with nearby gorges, ravines, creeks and waterfalls - some wild & spectacular places to see. What better place to base yourself and explore our part of the Conondale National Park, Jimna State Forest... be it on foot, horseback, motorcycle, 4x4 or mountain bike!! Fronts New England Highway just 15kms north of Crows Nest, Queensland on main road to Yarraman. Generally open area with some trees at rear of paddock. Natural open grass based paddock with natural surface. Wonderful open sky for viewing stars away from lights. Campers are required to be self sufficient with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Campfires welcome in the fire pit provided and pets are welcome too, just please ensure they stay in the paddock and don't disturb the cattle.

We had a great camp setup at Pilgrims Rest! They aren’t kidding when they say 4x4 only. It was our first experience towing our van in these conditions: steep, rocky and creek crossings. (We nailed it). Got in and out of camp no issues even though it was a little tight. Excellent creek for the kids to explore right in eye sight of camp. A few cars came by but nothing that was disturbing. Had some visitors (cows and horses). Quiet and remote. No phone service. Star-link worked until the weather kicked off. We had a deluge in the afternoon and overnight. Anita came down in the morning to check the creek crossings on our departure day. Advised us to head off as soon as possible due to the possibility of being flooded in. Great hosts. Good communication and excellent directions given. If we are in the area again we would visit again.

We didn't make it to our camp site due to my car being not suitable. But we made it a couple of KM in and me and my daughters were stunned by the tranquillity of this beautiful property. I wish we made it the final 10km! If I'm ever equipped with a 4x4 I'll 110% be making this place my first destination. Thanks again for allowing us into your space!

10 out of 10 for me! We camped at pilgrims rest and were the only people there. Right beside the freshwater Creek. Not much water in the creek ATM but holes deep enough to dip in. Could hear the water running constantly. It was exactly what I wanted. Cows and horses grazing on the property

The property is a beautiful spot with some gorgeous views and wildlife. The swimming hole was a favourite as it was so much fun! The waterfall walk was very refreshing, it will look amazing when it is in flow. The doggies had the best time with plenty of space to run around. My group of 6 stayed at Big Fig which was a lovely spot with plenty of room. The bathroom was also rather pleasant with plenty of hot water. We would definitely come and stay again!

5 Star camping ground!! Would definitely recommend to everyone, host came to welcome us as soon as we arrived. Plenty of activities to do there and room to create your own fun. Campsite spacing was really nice, not so close from other campers. Would definitely be back when given the chance!

Private camping sites along the forest filled seasonal creek, makes for the ideal weekend escape. The best time to visit would be after the summer rain to enjoy the creek, though, there are some great walks to enjoy, including Wrattens Falls or the cave. The owners have done a great job on the property providing visitors a great outdoor experience.

We just loved it. Mountain View was wonderful. Jason dropped in to say hello the first day then left us alone. There were few prickles and the ground was flat, mostly grassy and we had plenty of room. We were able to throw the balls for the dogs and tire them out. The cattle and horses were fun to watch. We also saw kangaroos and lots of birds. The ticks were a bit offputting but we coped. The dogs had just been tick treated and they didn't seem to have any on them. It was tick season. We will be back in winter next time.

We love visiting Hopevale adventure camping. This is about our 5th time back and the new addition of the dam for swimming is amazing. Jason is always an amazing host. Facilities are always clean. It’s a beautiful spot to camp! We will be back.

Hideaway haven was absolutely magical and cannot rate the hosts enough. In contact with us leading up to the stay and checking everything was ok/ any questions after settling in. The spot had many beautiful places to set up in and even with the unforeseen fire ban in place Anita came up with a solution to still be able to use the hot tub. Overall a wonderful, relaxing weekend away with incredible hosts. Cant wait to return and make more memories
