About halfway between the seafront skyline of Sydney and the craggy peaks of the Blue Mountains, the small suburban town of St Clair seems like an unlikely destination for intrepid campers. But if you’re seeking peace, quiet, and the best of both worlds right on your doorstep, then this is as good a place as any to pitch your tent or park your campervan. There’s no camping in St Clair itself, but you’ll find plenty of Hipcamps in the surrounding foothills, along with riverside campgrounds in neighbouring Penrith. Blue Mountains National Park is the most popular excursion from St Clair, where you can explore rugged hiking trails, admire views over the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley, and enjoy attractions including the Scenic World Railway, Cableway, and Skyway. Alternatively, there’s the Twin Creeks golf course, rafting and wakeboarding along the Nepean River, and the sights of Sydney within easy reach.
