We run an organic cattle property and have found a few spots around our farm to share with campers and glampers. Our campsites are "Beyond the Bridge" and "Old Flat Camp". Both are on cattle paddocks and have private access to Hydes Creek. Hydes Creek is a murky sandy base creek. There's lots of logs so its not recommend to jump in, but it's beautiful to cool off in the creek on a hot day. Both campsites have access to our compost toilet, and camping shower (gas hot water). If you prefer a bit more comfort or don't have your own camping gear, you can escape the hustle and enjoy being perched up on one of the highest points on the farm (with incredible views), in our Farm Huts. If you want to avoid the crowds our property is only 10 minutes drive to great local surf and fishing beaches at Crescent Head. There is an abundance of bird life, the odd kangaroos and wallabies, and other wildlife. There is a melaleuca forest that children are welcome to play in and build a cubby house, and 2 pretty little dams to catch yabbies, and for dogs to enjoy a swim. The property where camping is provided is approx 20 acres with a limit of 10 groups so you can find your own little piece of paradise. There is plenty of fire wood for you to collect on the property on your way in. Please help yourself to any fallen timber for firewood but please do not cut any standing trees down. When checking out, ensure you properly extinguish fires and return any unused firewood to the bush. Dogs are welcome to be here off leash as long as they are well socialised and reasonably obedient. There is large areas for them to run freely and dams to swim in. It is accessible via a 2WD dirt road, even with a little wet weather. If rainfall is extreme we recommend 4wd's. The property is completely off grid so we have a 'leave it as you found it' approach. This means you will need a camp toilet, and to take all of your rubbish with you. We are a rural property so do not have rubbish collection services. (Fees apply for any left behind rubbish). Happy camping!

What a beautiful place!!! We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to go back! Rick and Cheryl’s place is so warm and welcoming, nothing is a bother! The river is clear and beautiful, the hospitality is amazing, feeding the animals was an absolute highlight for our little city kids! It was a struggle to get the kids out of the place! The sites are so big and the is plenty of shade along the river. Toilets were super clean and well Maintained. I honestly could rave about the place for days. Book a stay is my advice!

The kids swings and bikes were an added bonus and we really enjoyed the farm tour. Travellers rest was great! Plenty of room in the paddock for campers. Lovely bathroom and a little sink available. There were frogs in the sink! There was an extra toilet if the shower was being used. A lovely family camping in a van used the pill to cool off. Really peaceful and Katie was lovely. Recommend.

Had a great stay Here. We were greeted by both host upon arrival and shortly after. Only downside was that there was no signal where we were staying, and they only offer 10 amp for electrical. But that was said when we booked. Overal was great for a night !

Me and my partner had a great time camping here. Didn’t have time to do the farm tour, but just setting up metres away from the river was enough. short walk or drive to the river access point, communal kayaks and boogie boards were an amazing touch. River water was a good temperature, a very picturesque creek and some incredible birdlife. Rick and Cheryl were both very friendly and reachable but not overbearing. Thanks for having us!

Fantastic hipcamp. Sites was large and green. Best drop toilets i have ever seen. River access was super easy. Loved the animal feeding experience. The fresh backed cakes were delicious. Could not recommend this more highly. Would definitely be back if we are up this way again. Thank you

Awesome green huge area with enough space for everyone. We were a bit worried about the place would be overcrowded, but the number of visitors after 4th of Jan were very minor (about 15). The sites could be picked up under shade and on the sunny spots. Access to the creek is awesome to have a refreshing bath. Toilet area is kept clean. There’s laundry area as well. Drinking water is also available.

Would definitely recommend to anyone it’s a beautiful spot the hosts Rick and Cheryl are soo lovely and friendly and welcoming they take very good care of the area their daughter comes down every arvo with fresh baked cakes and cookies to buy which are very yummy the kids loved going up to their place to feed the animals and and we had soo much fun swimming there the water is soo nice we spent a lot of time just floating around on our floaties can’t wait to go back there dog friendly very relaxed and only about a 20 min drive into Port Macquarie If you need to get anything

What an amazing camp site. The sites are large, there are a few powered sites but mostly unpowered. Cheryl and Rick were fantastic hosts. The river is stunning and they provide plenty of kayaks free of charge for you to use. The drop toilets are in impeccable condition. They provide farm tours for the kids to pat and feed animals, and their daughter sells fresh baked treats every afternoon to curb the sweet cravings. The camp site is only 30 minutes from Port Macquarie so very accessible. We will definately be back.

Katie's campsite was very clean and quiet, had a beautiful view, and Katie and her husband were very hospitable and friendly. They also had two dogs who were very kind, calm, and friendly, and gave us a lot of love. Most importantly, the toilet and shower were impeccably clean and great, and we really enjoyed our time there. Thanks to Katie and her husband!

Where to go

South Along the Coast

The village of Hat Head, half an hour’s drive south, is an even sleepier version of South West Rocks, with beaches just as nice and a beachside caravan park. The three-kilometre walking trail around the hat-shaped headland in the national park is one of the best cliff-top walks in the region. The next town south of Hat Head, Crescent Head, is home to one of Australia’s most famous right-hand surfing breaks and is a favourite with longboard riders.

Through the Rainforest

Explore the lush rainforest and wetlands north of South West Rocks in Yarriabini National Park and Yarrahapinni Wetlands on the 17-kilometre Way Way Creek Road scenic loop drive. The view from Yarriabini Lookout is a knockout.

Kempsey

Follow the Macleay River southwest to Kempsey, with its heritage houses, Wigay Aboriginal Cultural Park bushtucker farm, and riverside holiday parks. Kempsey is the birthplace of the iconic Aussie hat, the Akubra.

When to go

The weather is good for camping all year on the NSW North Coast, with lots of sunny days. The water is warmest for swimming between December and April. You’ll need to book ahead in summer and during Easter holidays, but outside of school holidays, you’ll have most of the place to yourself on mid-week visits. From May through to November you’ve got a good chance at spotting whales from the headlands.

Know before you go

Stock up on seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables from the many stalls that line the South West Rocks Road that links the township to the Pacific Highway.
Planning on catching your dinner? You’ll need a recreational fishing license, available online and at most fishing bait and tackle shops.
Beachside Markets are held in the reserve opposite Horseshoe Bay in the middle of South West Rocks on the second Saturday of each month.
Want to dive Fish Rock? There are two dive shops in town where you can join a tour or hire gear.
