Absolute camping privacy!!

We loved our brief stay at Akaroa (Phoranna farm) - there's SO much space, complete privacy and you feel like you are the only one in the forest. So cool to wake up to nothing but the sound of birds and wildlife. Plus there's a wonderful bush toilet, water on tap and a great campfire set up, just a shame there was a total fireban and we couldn't take advantage of it. But we will definitely be back again in the future. It's not the cheapest Hipcamp site, but what you are getting - your own private campsite in the forest - is worth every penny in our opinion. The only thing you do need to know is that if you have a large caravan/rig over about 21 foot then you'll need to access the entrance off the main road from the south, as it's too tight a turn from the north. And there's another tight/sharp turn into the property gate, so keep left and swing wide and you'll be fine. Enjoy!!

Journey beyond the forest.

Andrew was warm and friendly host, we enjoyed his story of the property. The property is keep in outstanding condition, with green grass under your feet and a great fire place. If you are looking for some peace in tranquil surroundings this will well and truly suit your needs.

Gorgeous spot!

This was a beautiful little spot! Lots of space to park up our caravan & our dog loved the open space to run around & explore. The camp is close to Stewart’s point or a short drive to Scott’s Head & stunning Grassy Head beach. We also dropped into the local markets (recommended by our hosts) which had beautiful locally grown produce, divine cinnamon scrolls & sourdough. Andrew & Lorell were friendly & welcoming making our stay very enjoyable. This will definitely be a recurring camp spot to come back to.

Beautiful property, was so relaxing as it was nice and quiet. Wonderful place to relax with plenty of room for our dogs to run around. The toilet was so clean and the property itself was well kept. Would highly recommend as a place to relax and get away from the busy hustle of everyday life. Andrew was extremely welcoming, polite and friendly. Provided excellent instructions on how to get there which was amazing as we arrived after dark and had no problems finding the site thanks to his instructions. Thank you Andrew for having us on your gorgeous property!

We had a lovely time at Phoranna and enjoyed the beautiful view from Akoroa. There is a massive tree there with a big tyre swing that would be suitable for children. There are a lot of ant hills all over the ground but we found a space that was big enough for our tent. The toilet was clean and was a drop pit toilet with an open door facing the bush. Andrew was helpful though he did make us move camp so we and he could not see each other from afar.

Camping with animals and kids

Awesome weekend, was exactly as we expected. Plenty of room for everyone! The kids and dogs ran free, swam in the dam annd played with the owners very friendly dogs. Such a peaceful spot, the view of the mountain was lovely and Andrew the host went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic! Thanks for a great weekend, We’ll be back 👍👍♥️

We loved this quiet spot and with a small forest behind, it really did seem we were in the middle of nowhere. Flat grassy area for camping and north facing to capture the winter sunshine. Drop toilet available being a bonus. The small dam was beautiful and great for the dog. Definitely worth a look in if you are exploring the area or just want a quiet weekend getaway.

Not private - Neighbours very close

Not what we were expecting. Neighbours were very close by and quite loud at times. Were warned when we got there theat they can be aggressive (this kind of information should be provided prior to booking/arrival). Granted we didn't have any run ins with them, their close proximity wasn't desirable. The few places we have stayed at previously have felt much more remote/isolated. The host was accommodating and offered for us to stay at the other site but that was 25m from where he was staying and not what we were after. We have 3 dogs who we like to let roam but couldn't do so freely in this place. Granted the ad does state to keep dogs within the tree line so that was made clear prior to arrival. Owner also has dogs which wasn't stated in the ad. Felt much more like staying in someone's residential backyard than a remote rural setting. I'm sure it would suit a number of families/campers but wasn't what we were looking for. Possibly our fault for not asking enough questions upfront.

This is a very cool campsite which we were fortunate enough to have all to ourselves. Love the unique fire pit and lights. It rained for prob 90% of the time but you can’t pick the weather. Lucky there are plenty of trees for shelter.

We had a great stay. Nice spot to camp and have a camp fire. Close to the beach as well which was nice. Pack your mosquito repellent as there were quite a few but I suspect that’s due to all the rain we have been having this season. We will definitely stay again. Thanks for having us.

Lovely place to camp up and enjoy some down time. Beautiful grass spot great for both kids and dogs. Very private spot. Close to cool little towns, including the beautiful South West Rocks. Andrew checked in with us and then left us to it which we appreciated.

Was only a fleeting visit but we loved our overnight stay. Andrew has a beautiful piece of land with a magical view to share and the rain just added to the experience. As night falls, the fairy lights come on, the kids loved it. We’ll be back!

Great campsite with beautiful views

We had the best time staying here! Andrew is a great host and super helpful. The campsite was clean and tidy and we had everything we needed. Phoranna Farm is the perfect vantage point for day trips to beautiful places such as Bellingen, Grassy Head, South West Rocks. The local beaches are stunning and the locals are friendly. Our puppy enjoyed wandering the property and meeting Anna and Koda. The cute little wallabies feeding next to the driveway are just an added bonus.

Camping Under The Most Gorgeous Gum

We loved our stay at Phoranna. The Akaroa camp-site was serene, secluded and very spacious! Ourselves and our dog loved the property and meeting Andrew and his gorgeous hounds. There was always something to do like going for a lovely walk around the property or going to the beach only 8 minutes away. We can't wait to come back and spend more time at Phoranna in the future. Thank You for an amazing stay!

Nice spot. The weather we got meant we couldn't fully enjoy all it has to offer, but the host was really helpful and accommodating. Can see that more is planned on the property and think its going to be really well thought out and set up space.

Beautiful Setting and Vibe

The campsite offered was actually Site 2, because Site 1 was being renovated. The campsite was gorgeous with great facilities (clean cold outdoor shower and clean drop toilet), with an emphasis on farm living and eco friendliness. The owner has strung up string lights and made a little bar to overlook the property and it was an absolute highlight sitting there in the evening and chatting the night away. The dogs (Anna and Koda) were super fun and playful! This being said, the neighbour started mowing their lawn on their ride on lawn mower at 9:30pm until 11:00pm, and that put a huge dent in the serenity and over all vibe of the night. We were also woken by construction workers working on a site next to our camp ground, and we weren't made aware that there would be any works happening as early as 8:30am, within 100m of our camp. Unfortunately this knocked the points down for us at this otherwise beautiful site.
