The Back Road Van is a classic 1970’s Viscount caravan that sits on a 7 acre property in the beautiful Markwell Valley. It is nestled between the Bulahdelah State Forest and rolling green pastures. (Note - from Bulahdelah township we are 5kms of sealed road, then 2kms of unsealed gravel road, the road is suitable for all vehicles.) We are a 7 minute drive from Bulahdelah village, 3 hours from Sydney, 1 hour from Newcastle, and 40 minutes to beautiful beaches like Hawks Nest, Seal Rocks, Boomerang and Blueys, so it’s an ideal getaway for couples. The caravan sits privately in the front paddock of our property. It is separate from the main house and is covered by a large shelter that includes an open seating area, with a small gas BBQ provided. There is also an outdoor bar table that’s perfect to enjoy a coffee or cocktail. The van is a 22 foot 1978 Viscount Supreme decorated to reflect the retro 70s style. It features a ‘cosy’ double bed, with linen provided, a lounge area plus a small galley kitchen, that includes a toaster, kettle, bar fridge, microwave and a 2 burner electric stove top. There are also added extras provided such as a selection of teas, coffee with plunger, milk and local free range eggs. The van does not have a plumbed water supply, but plenty of fresh water is provided. Just behind the van you have your own separate bathroom, with shower, toilet and wash basin. Towels are supplied. Your pet is welcome if it is well behaved and on a leash. When booking - PLEASE ensure you tick the appropriate box regarding pets so we know if you are bringing one. You are welcome to enjoy the entire property which includes a veggie garden, dam and an arbour to sit and enjoy the view. There is also a plunge pool next to the main house that you are most welcome to use during the warmer months, and a fire pit is available during the cooler months.

Access during unpredictable weather will depend on your vehicle/camper/caravan configuration. Please check with host prior if you are unsure. We are more than willing to make it work for you. On arrival, guests are met by host and directed to the site. Camp site is a secluded, grassy spot beside the creek, among tall gum trees, where you can enjoy peace and serenity. Perfect for families or group of friends. The creek has lovely shallow areas suitable for kids to splash and play in. Occasionally you may see sea eagles soaring overhead, they nest in one of the trees along the creek beside your camp area. Camp area has a composting drop toilet housed in an outback style 'dunny' shed. Fresh rainwater is available. The site has a fire pit and some light fire wood laying around from fallen branches, plus mesh to place over the fire pit if you wish to use the fire for cooking. (There will always be smaller branches and kindling available for fires however, larger and longer burning wood is not guaranteed all season.) Well behaved pets are welcome. You may be visited by some cattle during your stay...they will keep out of your way. There are some large and unique trees to admire and keep your eye out for wildflowers that grow along the creek. There is an active eagle's nest in one of the trees. Guests are welcome to explore down the creek where you'll find some great swimming holes. For a relaxing stroll, guests are welcome to walk the farm fence lines which are regularly maintained with a mower. There are so many beautiful local attractions to visit. Our local village is less than 2kms from the property where you will find Byabarra Cafe for excellent refreshments. Then a gorgeous drive up onto the plateau and you will find Comboyne village with a historic 1905 goal, Larrikins Lockup. And if you are feeling more adventurous, Rawson Falls and Ellenborough Falls make lovely day trips. And Comboyne Rock provides some stunning views. Upon arrival your host will provide you with an information pack on local attractions and general Hip Camp house rules and guidelines for your safety and enjoyment.

There is no oven or microwave, this is off grid living. Bathroom: Located outside which runs hot water. Our water is filtered from our dam and gas heated. Toilet: There is a composting toilet system. Super easy to use, firstly, there is no flush button; after using the toilet please sprinkle some wood shaving in the bowl, this covers your business, immediately neutralizes any smells and prompts the natural decomposition process. Phones/Wi-fi: You may or may not have reception depending on which provider you are with but again… this is off grid living, just enjoy the space! Our 320-acre property is a pristine piece of paradise halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the mid-north coast of NSW. Our site is unique, in that once you book you have the whole site to yourself. This is PRIVATE camping. You'll only have to share the river with whoever you bring with you and us! This is truly off-grid stuff - no power, no showers, little to no phone reception but one of the most peaceful places you can experience. There will sometimes be cattle in the paddock you are camped in - so to make this plain there could be cow poo around your area. If that is a worry to you, it's best you camp on a farm without livestock. If you do camp with us, and our cows are in the paddock, they are friendly and won't hurt you, though they can be quite inquisitive. We endeavor to keep our moo friends in other paddocks, but this is a working farm and we have to manage our pastures and put our animals where they are able to be safe and have enough food to stay healthy. If you're here at the right time of year, you might catch a Bass or see a Platypus (but only if you're very, very quiet). There is a lot of bird life (Kingfishers, Wrens, Finches amongst others), reptiles (water dragons and lace monitors), and - of course - our farm animals. Getting away from it all starts right here at Oakvale Cattle Farm.

If you value your privacy, then you are at the right place. We have just one exclusive campsite on our 40 acres. You are hidden away and guaranteed privacy from the host accommodations. Private access is by 4WD only. Farm route is accessible by 2WD in dry weather - check with hosts before or on confirmation of booking. Access during unpredictable weather will depend on your vehicle/camper/caravan configuration. Please check with host prior if you are unsure. We are more than willing to make it work for you. On arrival, guests are met by host and directed to the site. Camp site is a secluded, grassy spot beside the creek, among tall gum trees, where you can enjoy peace and serenity. Perfect for families or group of friends. The creek has lovely shallow areas suitable for kids to splash and play in. Occasionally you may see sea eagles soaring overhead, they nest in one of the trees along the creek beside your camp area. Camp area has a composting drop toilet housed in an outback style 'dunny' shed. Fresh rainwater is available. The site has a fire pit and some light fire wood laying around from fallen branches, plus mesh to place over the fire pit if you wish to use the fire for cooking. (There will always be smaller branches and kindling available for fires however, larger and longer burning wood is not guaranteed all season.) Well behaved pets are welcome. You may be visited by some cattle during your stay...they will keep out of your way. There are some large and unique trees to admire and keep your eye out for wildflowers that grow along the creek. There is an active eagle's nest in one of the trees. Guests are welcome to explore down the creek where you'll find some great swimming holes. For a relaxing stroll, guests are welcome to walk the farm fence lines which are regularly maintained with a mower. There are so many beautiful local attractions to visit. Our local village is less than 2kms from the property where you will find Byabarra Cafe for excellent refreshments. Then a gorgeous drive up onto the plateau and you will find Comboyne village with a historic 1905 goal, Larrikins Lockup. And if you are feeling more adventurous, Rawson Falls and Ellenborough Falls make lovely day trips. And Comboyne Rock provides some stunning views. Upon arrival your host will provide you with an information pack on local attractions and general Hip Camp house rules and guidelines for your safety and enjoyment.
