A dairy farm for many years, we switched over to beef around 15 years ago. Currently we run around 120 head of Angus and mixed breed cattle.
Within 3 hours drive of Sydney and around an hour from the Barrington National Parks, Newcastle, Maitland, Forster and Nelson Bay, it makes it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway!
We are offering 6 beautiful, partly shaded, camping sites along the pristine Upper Karuah River. All sites are separated for privacy and are all right on the edge of the river.
There are plenty of opportunities for bird watching, hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing (in summer), star gazing or just relaxing.
All sites are site only and no toilet or shower facilities are provided. You will need to bring your own camping toilet or self contained caravan/ camper (dump point is located in Stroud township)

As a working farm, you’ll often see cattle, sheep, and horses grazing in nearby paddocks (and if you're staying creekside, they may even share the paddock with you), adding to the authentic rural charm. Kids and adults alike love watching the animals roam.

As you relax you can watch our sheep grazing on the nearby fields with Larry the Llama. There are two farm cats that wonder around the farm. In the early mornings and during the evenings you can see the kangaroos and deer grazing the fields.
Guests can enjoy clean toilet and shower cubicles with reliable hot water. A large communal camp kitchen is available, equipped with 2 seperate stoves, a fridge and a microwave—perfect for easy camp meals and shared evenings.
All campsites are easily accessible for all vehicle types. We’re pet-friendly too, so your furry companions are welcome (leashes required).
For added convenience, there is a dump point on-site. Please use environmentally friendly and septic safe tablets only when using.
There is a communal fire pit with plenty of seating or room to bring your own. Wood is stacked and ready to go.

Private Fire pits are available for use or use your own during your stay, firewood can be supplied at an additional cost. Our farm is located on the beautiful Karuah River in the picturesque Monkerai valley. The river is a fresh mountain river running from the foothills of Barrington Tops.
We only offer 5 sites across our 300 acre property giving you absolute privacy and a sense of serenity
We were very pleased to have been recognised by Hipcamp as being one of the top 20 Hipcamp locations in NSW for 2022.
Most of the year the river is lovely and clear and ideal for swimming canoeing floating on airbeds fishing photography or just enjoying. There is also some really nice bike riding and walking opportunities around the valley although you will be on gravel roads and we are only 25 min drive from the popular Dungog mountain bike park.
You are likely to see a variety of birdlife other wildlife including black and white cockatoos ducks some lizards, occasionally wallabies, echidnas and if you are lucky a Platypus or two. We are fortunate to see platypus in the river frequently which is a sign of just how pristine the water running down from the mountains really is.
You will have your campsite completely to yourself with no other camper near you. Privacy, tranquillity, relaxation and just enjoying nature is waiting for you. Be sure to bring your telescope as you’ll be amazed at the stargazing at night with no light pollution.
Swimming, canoeing and running the rapids on surf mats is always popular at our property and as long as the river is it normal levels and a lot of fun. However, we always highly recommend people wear some form of footwear in the river such as rafting sandals or old joggers or similar as the rocks are very hard on your feet and there’s a particular nasty little fish called a “Bullrout” that whilst rare can infect a nasty sting if you tread on one. No need to be overly concerned but be mindful.
Our property is ideal for self-contained vans, camper trailers, medium motor homes, tents or swags, it’s up to you. There are no toilets so only suitable if you have your own toilet facilities and take away all waste when you leave. All toilet waste, leaving our property is very important and an absolutely essential requirement for all visitors. Public waste dump points are at Stroud, Dungog and Gloucester.
Gloucester Dungog and historic Stroud village are nearby as well as Barrington Tops World Heritage wilderness area and national park.
This is an operating farm and therefore farming activities such as cattle droving, fencing, grass cutting or hay making may occasionally be occurring somewhere near your site but we would always let you know. We are sure you will enjoy our farm far more than a crowded traditional caravan park or campgrounds.
We do have some limited bags of firewood for sale at $20 a bag most of the year. These are heavy bags of very dry local Hardwood. You can also collect firewood along the riverbanks yourself or bring your own firewood for a campfire (subject to any fire restrictions) if that is easier and more convenient for you.
When you make a reservation at the property we will always endeavour to put you in your preferred location as best we can. However if we are impacted by adverse weather or need to run cattle on certain parts of the farm then we may need to make a change to the actual site you are in and trust you understand.

We have several camping areas, which range from intimate to spacious, and can host up to 190 people - if you want to book out the whole place (weddings, parties, small festivals)!
Facilities include toilets, water and shelter.
It's called 'The Wollemi Art Farm' because not only do we do arty things there (like quests and Shakespeare nights), in time we shall fill the place with mysterious and beautiful works of art - constructed from the rocks and wood of the landscape itself.
We have our own trails and views (see below).
As mentioned, we run quest adventures (think: clues, a map, exploring, competing against other teams for glory) - get in touch if you would like to know when the next one is, or if you would like your own private quest. I've included some quest material in the photos (more on our Instagram and Youtube). There is an additonal fee for questing.
Walks:
-Look out for the twin cairns on the north side of the public road, about 100m before you get to the main camping area. Follow the trail to the Summit.
-You can also follow the private road up the hill past the main house (turn right off the public road as if you are going to the Spring campsite, then walk past the 'no tresspassing sign' - you are not tresspassing if you are a guest!). Follow this road for a few hundred metres until you see the rocky outcrop towards your right (the 'Souther Heights'). A sign points the way to a cleft that you can ascend. Two cairns mark this spot. Follow the rocky ridge up for several hundred metres. It's a fine adventure.
Runs. I'm a keen distance runner. I have a range of runs mapped out. These include a 10km loop, longer runs up to 20kms, various reps, and more. The WAF is perfect for your running group getaway.

🚗 Access: The farm is reached via a well-maintained unsealed road, suitable for 2WD vehicles. Expect a few shallow, low-speed creek crossings—just enough adventure to feel like you're truly off the grid.
Please be aware that river crossings are dangerous. Flood waters can rise quickly. Please review current weather in advance and use common sense when entering river crossings and don't take risks.

This was our 4th time at Willow Banks, first time with the Grandchildren. They absolutely loved it as much as we do. Thank you to Jo and Ian for once again being wonderful and friendly hosts. A big thank you to Ian for the tour of the property, we absolutely enjoyed hearing and seeing the history of your family property, was a privilege. We absolutely loved waking up to see and hear the cows and their calves, kids loved feeding the horses an apple. Definitely will be back, camp grounds are so well kept and private. The river is so tranquil and relaxing.

Thankyou for another gorgeous and relaxing trip to Willowbank. The sites are huge and extremely well kept, the river was crystal clear for swimming and sitting on the riverbank watching nature is just magical, we love the peacefulness and the fact you are nowhere near your neighbours and you are close to town should you need anything. Return guests 3rd time, can not fault Willow bank. From the the host that go above and beyond, escorting you to your camp site and ensuring you are well looked after. The sites are spread out and private along the river bank and the river is beautiful. Lucky to see the fire flies this trip and absolutely love the serenity. As always a big thank you to Jo and Ian for there hospitality., Highly recommend to everyone. From the get go we were greeted by Joanne and Ian, great people friendly. The site was amazing with fire pit and wood already onsite. Heaps of shaded area but enough sun up the top to keep the solar batteries charged.

A beautiful spot! We loved our time at lake Mac. Host James was kind enough to show the kids the animals including sheep and the baby ducklings were a real treat for them. The site is very well kept and has a great view out to the lake. The hosts were very easy to deal with and we pulled straight in and set without any hassle. We will definitely be back again!

We had a lovely time at Willowbank. Ian and Jo are such wonderful hosts. They have a beautiful property with a lovely river to swim in, and plenty of wild life to encounter. The view from the top of the mountain is incredible.
We stayed at paperbarks which is in a nice bit of shade and is right on the river. No light pollution around so the night sky is amazing.
Will definitly be heading back there soon !!
