The river is a fresh mountain river running from the foothills of Barrington Tops. We only offer 5 sites across our 300 acre property giving you absolute privacy and a sense of serenity We were very pleased to have been recognised by Hipcamp as being one of the top 20 Hipcamp locations in NSW for 2022. Most of the year the river is lovely and clear and ideal for swimming canoeing floating on airbeds fishing photography or just enjoying. There is also some really nice bike riding and walking opportunities around the valley although you will be on gravel roads and we are only 25 min drive from the popular Dungog mountain bike park. You are likely to see a variety of birdlife other wildlife including black and white cockatoos ducks some lizards, occasionally wallabies, echidnas and if you are lucky a Platypus or two. We are fortunate to see platypus in the river frequently which is a sign of just how pristine the water running down from the mountains really is. You will have your campsite completely to yourself with no other camper near you. Privacy, tranquillity, relaxation and just enjoying nature is waiting for you. Be sure to bring your telescope as you’ll be amazed at the stargazing at night with no light pollution. With some lovely Spring rain the river is running beautifully and is great for a swim, fish or canoe. Swimming, canoeing and running the rapids on surf mats is always popular at our property and as long as the river is it normal levels and a lot of fun. However, we always highly recommend people wear some form of footwear in the river such as rafting sandals or old joggers or similar as the rocks are very hard on your feet and there’s a particular nasty little fish called a “Bullrout” that whilst rare can infect a nasty sting if you tread on one. No need to be overly concerned but be mindful. Our property is ideal for self-contained vans, camper trailers, medium motor homes, tents or swags, it’s up to you. There are no toilets so only suitable if you have your own toilet facilities and take away all waste when you leave. All toilet waste, leaving our property is very important and an absolutely essential requirement for all visitors. Public waste dump points are at Stroud, Dungog and Gloucester. Gloucester Dungog and historic Stroud village are nearby as well as Barrington Tops World Heritage wilderness area and national park. This is an operating farm and therefore farming activities such as cattle droving, fencing, grass cutting or hay making may occasionally be occurring somewhere near your site but we would always let you know. We are sure you will enjoy our farm far more than a crowded traditional caravan park or campgrounds. We do have some limited bags of firewood for sale at $20 a bag most of the year. These are heavy bags of very dry local Hardwood. You can also collect firewood along the riverbanks yourself or bring your own firewood for a campfire (subject to any fire restrictions) if that is easier and more convenient for you. When you make a reservation at the property we will always endeavour to put you in your preferred location as best we can. However if we are impacted by adverse weather or need to run cattle on certain parts of the farm then we may need to make a change to the actual site you are in and trust you understand. Callicoma Hill offers bush camping for groups in a forest clearing, an off-grid 10 bed rustic bunkhouse and an off-grid self-contained 3 bedroom eco-cabin in the forested mountains at Mount Royal, on the edge of the Barrington wilderness in the Hunter Valley of NSW. We also occasionally offer a camping site in our front paddock with a spectacular 80km view over the Hunter Valley. It is an ideal off-grid bush getaway for families and groups, offering peace and quiet, a mountainside of forest, enviable views and sunsets across the Hunter Valley and fresh mountain air. Most importantly, guests have exclusive use of our property in each area, so you don't have to share with other visitors. We are near Mount Royal National Park, adjoining the Barrington Tops wilderness area. The area is part of the World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest Reserves, a place of great scenic beauty and natural diversity. Best of all, it is quiet and away from the crowds. Whether you want an easy walk in nature and peace, an adventurous climb to see a breathtaking view, or are in training for an epic multi-day walk, Mount Royal National Park provides excellent bushwalking opportunities. Or, you can simply stay at camp and sit and relax!

Flow Creek Farm is situated on 60 beautiful acres. We are a family owned and run farm that houses cows, pigs and goats. This natural environment will have you quickly slowing down as you immerse yourself in nature. You will quickly forget about the world with the sound of the flowing creek and sounds of nature. Flow Creek Farm offers privacy in nature. It has an amazing flowing creek that makes you want to explore, swim and chill down by the creek all day. You will see cows strolling by in the paddocks and you can feed the resident pigs and goats. You need to be a self-contained camper at this campsite with your own camping toilet/shower, and drinking water. Campfires are permitted. Or if you want some serious adventure, just 13 minutes from here you can head to Kiwarrak Mountain bike track that has a network of approximately 70km of forested mountain bike trails. It’s the perfect place for everyone with easy trails for beginners and technical trails and structures for the shredders. If beautiful views are your thing, you can ride to nearby Breakneck Lookout for stunning 360 degree views of the mountains and sea. We recommend 4WDs to access this campsite, and we can accommodate tents and camping trailers, as well as caravans, motorhomes and campervans. If you're unsure about your vehicle please contact us. We spend a very great time here. Away from the main tourist way. Just Nature and us. We enjoyed a bath in the beautiful natural pool and were allowed to make a little fire in the evening. Compost Toilet and outdoor shower are available ans very good. A really great place to relax. Pascale is a very nice host and totally uncomplicated. Thanks

Weekend Trip to Willowbank

After a stressful week at work it was so wonderful to relax at this gorgeous campsite in nature by the beautiful river. Even got to float around on it this time! My second visit to Willowbank was even better than the first and I will be back again. Thanks again Jo and Ian for sharing such a special place.

Camping at Willowbank was so relaxing, Jo and Ian the hosts were wonderful and so welcoming, the ambience, position and the site was private and well presented we have pinned this in our stay list. Even though a working farm our site was fenced off from the friendly cows.

Me and my partner stayed at the she oaks campsite the hosts were very accommodating and it was very straight forward getting to the campsite we went on a Monday and we were the only people there The property is beautiful and walking the river is a fun activity to do while staying The campsite is definitely 2wd accessible you do no you do not need a 4wd to access the campground In our stay it was rather windy the campsite is very exposed to wind I recommend checking the wind before your stay but Tbf i think we just got a bit unlucky and I wouldn’t worry abt that too much Definitely recommend keen to return.

We loved camping at Platypus Pools! We ended up camping in the Rockpool site. We loved swimming and fishing in the river. The site was very private and Chris and his son made sure we were comfortable and checked on us each day. The farm is 25 mins away from Stroud or Gloucester in case anything is needed from shops. We forgot marshmallows so got that from Gloucester. We will be back!

Our review is based on a seven night stay in our caravan. Communication after booking was forthcoming and felt welcoming. Responses from the host to our messages were answered within a reasonble time. Directions to find the property were clear and accurate. Hosts met us on arrival and showing us to our site. Access to the site was easy for our forty year old caravan. The site was flat and well mowed with plenty of room to move around. Hosts were happy to provide assistance to us at the site. We loved the shade provided by a large sheoak and positioned our van to look out over the river flat where cattle grazed on grass right in front of us. We enjoyed seeing them every day and watching their antics. Location was perfect for us... close to Stroud, Gloucester and kilometres of countryside to explore. We felt that the hosts approached their responsibilities seriously when they checked in on us regularly and were helpful from the moment of our arrival. We'd love to return again soon.

I loved our stay. The river was the perfect temperature for a dip. Great to float down on our surf mats under the gorgeous lush overhanging trees. I didn’t see any platypus but they would definitely be there. The camp spots was secluded away from the other campers. Jo and Ian are lovely hosts who are so inviting. I highly recommend it. We will be going back for sure.

The land is absolutely beautiful. Amazing mountain views. Other campers but so much room you don’t even realise other people are there. Toilet and shower was an added bonus and was clean and fresh. John is absolutely lovely and so friendly. We had the privilege of staying at his beautiful property for a night. The campsites are surrounded by wonderful mountains, and each camp site is very spread out, we couldn’t even see our camp neighbours! The spots are very secluded. We were able to swim In the crystal clear river, then fall asleep to the sound of the water running. An amazing experience. Thank you John for sharing your wonderful home with us.
