Weekend Trip to Bark Hut Mill

We had an incredible long weekend at Bark Hut Mill. Got super lucky with beautiful sunny days and clear and crisp wintry nights and mornings. Kev was super lovely and dropped in to welcome us and have a yarn. Our group and two dogs had the best time, and we collectively decided we will have to be back for another visit this winter. Thanks so much for having us 🤎🌿🌅

Weekend Trip to Bark Hut Mill

Bark Hit Mill farm is an amazing place to camp. Kev is a great bloke gave us good tips on walks on the property. It was awesome to explore the property and get to know the land. Awesome location not far from beaches. Excited for next time.

3 nights at Riverside Rest

We absolutely loved this place - so peaceful. There are four flat grassy spots with plenty of room between sites. The view across the Clarence River is amazing as is the wildlife which includes plenty of water birds, fish and dolphins. The nearest town is Yamba which is just a short drive away and has plenty of nice cafes and shops, great beaches and walks. The camp host Zoe was super helpful and friendly. Highly recommended - we will be back!!!

This is a wonderful site — pristine, beautifully maintained, and with absolutely stunning views. It’s everything we hoped for and more. So peaceful and quiet, with glorious sunrises you can enjoy right from your bed. In the evenings, the sunsets reflect off the river, creating a magical atmosphere. If you’re lucky, you might spot dolphins swimming by, and the area is rich with birdlife, including pelicans. With only four spacious sites, there’s plenty of room and privacy. Zoe is a fabulous host — warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. It’s also a bonus that dogs are welcome. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

I loved the place, Sharon and the care taker was really friendly, nice and helpful. This place is really different from rest and you will be treated as your family and it’s not fake it legit care Sharon gives. They have so many different type of birds and animals, for e.g. Peacock, Hen and horses etc. overall it was nice, peacefull and friendly environment. Toilets were fairly clean. Such a beautiful place to camp. It’s quiet, clean and ground is level down by the pond. The inbuilt fire places are a great addition to camp grounds. Easy access for big rigs. It’s out go to Hipcamp every time we head North.

This is the absolute best Hipcamp I have stayed at. Glen and Zoe are amazing, welcoming hosts who couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. River frontage, beautiful grassy sites, pet friendly and fires allowed! There is also a jetty and boat ramp, this place really ticks all the boxes! Great fishing and sites spaced for privacy, big bags of firewood and ice for sale as well. Love it here, didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back as soon as we can.

Groundswell Guest Camp

The Groundswell Guest Camp would love to welcome you to enjoy an exclusive camp in a tranquil unique natural bush setting, ideal for families, bird watching naturalist and artist. The camp is located on 100 acres of unique grasstree forest in Taloumbi, NSW. We are just 10 minutes off the Pacific Highway, between Maclean and Brooms Head. The camp is currently set up for private use for one booking, where the guest booking can park at the covered deck space and have use of the deck, shower and toilet for just themselves. The deck is a great spot to enjoy the rising sun, yoga and meditation. Hooks are attached to the post for hammocks, so please relax and enjoy your time at Groundswell. Groups are welcome.Please contact the host for group bookings. This could be organized where the deck area is a communal space and the shower and toilet are shared by the group. All campsites are flat and some cleared play spaces available for kicking balls, games, frisbee, etc. There is a sink with filtered rain water on the deck, an instant gas hot water shower behind the main deck and also a compost toilet. There is a small solar power set up to run the sink and shower pump. The site in OFF-GRID on tank water only, so it is important to be mindful of water use and make sure taps are off when not in use. In consideration of future guest do not wash your motor home or caravan with the tank water, or refill your tanks as this site is rainwater only. Bring your own cooker, lights and chairs. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash if guest are away or if they are a threat to wildlife. There are families of kangaroos, wallabies and endangered coastal emu’s that we love and would like to keep safe. We are very lucky to have the emus here and provide information as citizen scientist to those researching them. If you fancy spotlighting in the evening, you may see sugar gliders, micro bats, possums, bandicoots, and owls on the prowl. There is a small orchard next to the camp site and you can help yourself to any ripe fruits. We continue to work on permaculture projects and improve the sites design with a good vision for the future of the Groundswell Project. You can swim in the dam when full. Enjoy a meditation or sunset drink over looking the dam and admiring the wildlife that also use the watering hole. Fires are allowed, except during total fire bans, in the contained pits only and put out at night. There is plenty of firewood to collect on site. Mosquitos come and go depending on weather or season. It is good to be prepared with coils, nets on your bed or sprays just in case. Access the camp at the front gate (address provided at booking) and follow the sign to the Hipcamp. Access is 2wd accessible and good for caravans, or larger RV’s etc. The Spa at Groundswell is now open at the owners home. Please contact the host for massage and magnesium bath menu. Limited times available. We are currently working on a network of trails inside of the 100 acres. Until complete, parts of the perimeter of the property are cleared and can be walked from Grasstree Drive to Wallaby Lane. There is a "TRAIL" sign at the start of the trail behind the orchard. Please take all of your rubbish and recycling. There is a waste station in Townsend on the way back to the highway or at the Yuraygir National Park if staying there after us. Phone service is best with Telstra. Our nearest beaches are also just 5-10 minutes at the Yuraygir National Park, Lake Aragon/ Redcliff Campground entrance and the beautiful quiet beach town of Brooms Head. Brooms Head has a general store and a snack shack with great snacks, coffee and convenient essentials. Dogs are not allowed in the national park, but there is a dog beach north from the Lake Cakora bridge in Brooms Head and also back beach in Brooms Head, south of the headland. Fishing, boating, spear fishing, surfing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, kite surfing, motor bike trails (Candole State Forest), coastal walks, beach walks, etc. The Yuraygir coastal walk spans 65 km’s from Angourie in Yamba, to Red Rock. For a one night camp on the trailing walking north, you can camp and the pristine beaches at Shelley’s. And if leaving from Lake Aragon or Brooms Head, the next camp south is at The Sandon. Yamba and Angourie are 30 minutes drive via the backroad from Townsend. Yamba also has great surfing beaches, plenty of café options, shopping, a lighthouse, breakwall walk and fishing.

No agriculture or farms upstream, only one other like-minded property owner. Secluded, but hiding smack bang in the middle of everywhere! From vertiginous sandstone cliffs on which epipetrics cling tight, right through to palm-filled rainforests, and with two quite different creek systems (including a monster waterfall), you'll be spoiled for things to do and places to explore - without even leaving the property! HISTORY This land is Gumbaynggirr land. Please be particularly mindful of our First Nation's long presence on this land. In the 1800's, white men came seeking Red Cedar, closely followed by settlers having a go at dairying; though logging has remained this area's mainstay. This special property, despite last being selectively logged about 50 years ago, hosts many huge old-growth trees remaining steadfast for your discovery and wonder. And many more are continuing to grow out too. About 35 years ago about nine of this property's eastern-most 104 acres became part of a far larger nashi pear orchard which filled much of the flats of this top end of the valley that you see today. Ultimately they failed to set good commercial fruit, and the rootstocks took over. You can see remnant rows of these trees just south of the property, from along the road. (Beware though - they have spikes that could puncture Caterpillar tracks!) MORE RECENTLY extensive lantana control efforts have been undertaken as we now move into revegetating with native species and implementing a permaculture plan. Thankyou for considering Dungarubba Fields. We offer you a well located and secure camp-site to explore the North Coast or for that overnight stay while you are travelling to your destination and need a safe place to camp. Our four campsites are spacious and are freshly mown flat grassed sites. Each campsite has 1 or 2 stone circles for campfires, with free kindling and free firewood supplied to all campsites. Whether you are a single traveller, a couple, family or group booking we have the campsite for you. We are family friendly and dog friendly. Dungarubba Fields is a private, rural setting on six acres on Bundjalung country. Four of our camp sites are situated across a small bridge in the back paddock, and one camp site is situated just before the bridge for those self driving campervans with a wider wheel-base. The paddock was once cleared and in recent years we have planted and cared for over 100 new Koala and rainforest trees. After the Northern Rivers floods of 2022 we are now continuing the bush regeneration beside the Dungarubba wetland which borders our property. Our camp-sites offer shade, space, wildlife and birdlife. Campfires are allowed 12 months a year depending on fire ratings and local conditions except on days of Total Fire Ban and the preceding evening going into a Total Fire Ban. We supply the free firewood to each campsite as we understand how important the campfire is to the camping experience. Outside the fire season we can supply a readymade Bonfire at an additional cost to your booking. Hipcampers can access fresh drinking water (rainwater) from our rainwater tanks, with an accessible tap near our home. Hipcampers have access to a downstairs flushing toilet at the house. We offer a Portaloo for larger group bookings situated beside your camp site as an optional extra for an additional cost. The Portaloo needs to be booked when you make your booking. The house on the property was originally built in 1903 as the Catholic Church of the nearby locality Riley's Hill. In the 1940’s it was moved to the current site after low attendance by parishioners who didn’t want to have to row across the Richmond River and get their feet wet to attend Mass. The church sold the building in the 1980’s and it was raised off the ground with two new wings attached on either side to become a private residence. The sugar cane and soybeans, however more surrounding land is being planted to Macadamia nuts which will change the look of the landscape in future. During May to November of an evening, you can look out for the occasional cane fire which is a historic part of the harvesting of sugar. The Richmond River and boat ramp is a short 2 minutes drive for both fishing and water skiing. The Broadwater National Park with sand-dunes and a fishing beach is only a 10 minute drive away. The Pacific Highway is 7 minutes drive away. The beautiful coastal village of Evans Head with shops, a medical clinic and a patrolled beach is just a 15 minutes drive. The nearest townships are Broadwater (2 fuel stations and a pub under new management), Coraki (junction of 2 rivers), Woodburn (pub with a bistro and a laundrette) and Evans Head (a township with most services). We are a 45 minutes drive to Byron Bay and 25 minutes to the coastal city of Ballina up the Pacific Highway or 25 minutes drive inland to the city of Lismore. We welcome friendly dogs and there is plenty of space for them to run around and chase balls or other dogs. Our dog Stella is a 4 year old Blue Heeler, who greets people from the balcony barking as you drive in. Don’t let the barking fool you as she loves visitors and their dogs. We expect owners to be responsible for their dogs and in particularly when there are Koalas close by. We ask dogs not to roam at night as Koalas are nocturnal (and so are other critters) and night-time is when they choose their food tree for the next day and roam around. From vertiginous sandstone cliffs on which epipetrics cling tight, right through to palm-filled rainforests, and with two quite different creek systems (including a monster waterfall), you'll be spoiled for things to do and places to explore - without even leaving the property! HISTORY This land is Gumbaynggirr land. Please be particularly mindful of our First Nation's long presence on this land. In the 1800's, white men came seeking Red Cedar, closely followed by settlers having a go at dairying; though logging has remained this area's mainstay. This special property, despite last being selectively logged about 50 years ago, hosts many huge old-growth trees remaining steadfast for your discovery and wonder. And many more are continuing to grow out too. About 35 years ago about nine of this property's eastern-most 104 acres became part of a far larger nashi pear orchard which filled much of the flats of this top end of the valley that you see today. Ultimately they failed to set good commercial fruit, and the rootstocks took over. You can see remnant rows of these trees just south of the property, from along the road. (Beware though - they have spikes that could puncture Caterpillar tracks!) MORE RECENTLY extensive lantana control efforts have been undertaken as we now move into revegetating with native species and implementing a permaculture plan. The Good Life Camping

This is your chance to embrace the great outdoors without someone’s caravan awning poking you in the eye. Your four-legged mate is welcome too. Just keep them on a lead while you’re exploring, but they’re free to be their goofy selves at your campsite. And of course, a campfire is practically mandatory. Each site has a fire pit, and if you burn through your wood supply faster than a pollie breaks a promise, we can sort you out with more for a small fee. Now, for a bit of housekeeping. Let's be clear, we're not the Hilton. In fact, we don't provide any amenities at all. Think of us as a safe, private space that feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, because you pretty much are. You'll need to come fully self-sufficient. That means bring everything in, and please, take all your waste back out with you. Leave only footprints and good memories. The agenda? Well, that’s up to you. Plonk yourself in a chair with a good book, go for a gentle wander around the farm, or chuck on your boots and tackle a proper bushwalk through our 70 acres of trails. At night, the sky puts on a heck of a show, and the silence is so complete you can actually hear yourself think. We’re the new kids on this gorgeous property and are still getting ourselves sorted. Big plans are afoot for a dunny and shower, picnic tables, and fresh rainwater on tap. We'll be adding more critters, growing a heap of fruit and veg, and soon you'll be able to grab farm-fresh eggs for your brekkie. We'd be chuffed to have you come along for the ride. Don't panic about dinner. The pub in Glenreagh (5 mins down the road) does a top-notch feed, and you’ll also find a bakery and takeaway there. Nana Glen (10 mins the other way) has you covered with a cafe, chemist, servo, and a general store for all your bits and bobs. There’s no phone or Wi-Fi. Consider it a feature, not a bug. It’s the perfect excuse to ignore your emails.

Roughly mid-way between Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay, along NSW’s North Coast, “The Broom'' is the beachside getaway you probably didn’t have on your itinerary…until now. Sitting at the heart of Yuraygir National Park, the coastal town is the ideal base camp for exploring the park’s pristine beaches, tidal pools, and wildlife-filled hiking trails. Campers can take their pick of nine campgrounds in the national park, including lakeside camping on the shores of Lake Arragan, beachfront camping at Illaroo and Pebbly Beach, and a camping area along the Sandon River, complete with a boat ramp. Most have unpowered sites suitable for tents, camper trailers, and small campervans, with basic facilities such as restrooms, BBQs, and fire pits. For motorhomes and powered sites, caravan parks and holiday parks have you covered, but you’ll also find plenty of Hipcamps around nearby Yamba, Maclean, and Grafton.
