Castaic Lake State Recreation Area
Get out on the water for fun fun fun in the sun at this easy-to-reach recreational lake.
Less than an hour from Los Angeles and located just north of Santa Clarita is this manmade state water reservoir that doubles as one of the largest recreational lakes in California, with 29 miles of shoreline.
Yeah, we said "lake," but really there are two lakes here. Head to the upper lake for jet skiing, water skiing, power boating, and fishing. Anglers will be happy to know the lake is kept stocked with bass, catfish, and trout (but don't be surprised if you pull up some carp as well).
Down on the lower lake is where to take your float tubes and canoes. You can rent all sorts of fun stuff: kayaks, hydro bikes, and stand-

There are 60 campsites at this park, providing easy access to the lagoon launch ramp as well as the fishing pier and 24/hour (obsessed fisher(wo)men rejoice!) shoreline fishing area.
