About Oz Farm
Once owned by a local legend by the name of "Redwood", Oz Farm is no doubt, a very special place...heck, its even got it's own comic book! Here you can pick your poison, as the property is comprised of 7 rustic cabins, redwood campsites, and geodesic domes that would make Buckminster Fuller proud. All guests have access to the community house, which comes with a fully equipped kitchen. The working farm is comprised of over 230 accessible acres of flowing meadows, redwood groves, prime agriculture, and is intersected by the beautiful Garcia River, which flows into the mighty pacific. One thing that is very apparent, is how clearly passionate your host Dean is about ecology and agriculture. Once you step foot onto Oz Farm, you'll begin to understand why.
Originally purchased in the late 60's by "Redwood", Oz Farm was initially a commune of sorts. Picture meditation huts, domes, and redwood platforms sprinkled throughout the forest.....

What an amazing property! We had the most amazing weekend camping amongst the redwoods at Oz. The employees are all so helpful and super friendly. At the farm there are beautiful fields of flowers and apple orchards to play in. The community kitchen was wonderful and fully stocked with any cooking equipment you might need. The farm box is outstanding and their fresh pressed apple juice is worth every penny! Don't forget to set a day aside for pizza - tending the fire and heating the outdoor oven was great fun and the pizza was absolutely delicious. Thank you Oz! Can't wait for another visit.
Walk about: Parking to yurt seemed less than 15. Community house washroom with all amenities is kind of like the "yurt resort.” Do take to the Garcia and listen to the low flow river sing sweet songs to rock your soul. Support the farm: purchase a produce box!
Wonderful, wild, rustic and restful. Really enjoyed my weekend at the Rainbow Cabin. Amenities we clean, and tidy, shared kitchen and bath house was fabulous, and the orchards, river and woods surrounding were just gorgeous. The staff were also very helpful, even if only sparingly seen.
If you're looking for serenity, nature and comfort, Oz Farm is such an amazing place to stay! Rainbow Cabin is a cute little nest full of charm and warmth – literally: the wood stove can rapidly overheat the space if it's not too cold outside. But the deck and the large windows are a stargazer dream. The compostable toilets are probably the cleanest I've ever experienced. This cabin is a 5 minutes walk from the parking lot and the community house. Don't hesitate to ask Margaret ahead of time for a box of fresh produce, it's worth it!
I actually went to scope it out as a wedding venue, and now I am going to get married there! The owners are extremely warm and comfortable, settling in was super easy. It’s extremely private and the price is totally reasonable.
Having the ability to stay on this amazing land use farm provided more than just a stay in a cabin. We got to see how they deal with the logistical issues of power production, water use and waste management etc. We also enjoyed walking around and seeing the other cabins along with the produce being grown and harvested.
Oz Farm was awesome! The staff are super friendly and the locations is absolutely perfect for getting away from everything for a little while. The cabin was nice and spacious, much bigger than I initially anticipated as it had 3 beds. The hike to the cabin is a little on the steep side, but aside from that, everything was perfect.
Liberty cabin was a great experience. Very rustic, set in a beautiful bucolic scene. 3 bed options in the unit so plenty of space. A sink, wood burning stove so barebones. Outside outhouse, no plugs. Nearby community space / kitchen was great. All the cooking supplies needed, flushing toilets, and showers. It's about 3-4 min walk away. It's a very steep walks up to the cabin from the road, but very private. Farm is beautiful with hiking trails and a river. Town of Point Arenais 6 minutes away, super cool, very small town with limited options. Go to Frannys for coffee & pastry. You won't regret it. The hippies running this place are very casual so don't except many formalities. S'mores by campfire sealed the deal.
We had such a great getaway to Oz Farm. Definitely recommend arranging to have a fresh produce box that comes straight from the property. The location of the Newbird cabin was perfect in relation to where the community areas are and to the river where you can take a dip. We would come back to this place for sure.
the camp site is in a cozy redwood grove. when the morning light hit it came right to the picnic table next to our tents, warming us up from the cool autumn night. we lit the wood burning pizza oven late in the day and made a pizza from the ingredients in the farm box we had ordered. showers, toilets, tubs and a really well equipped communal kitchen is a short walk away. we brought a camp stove and fired it up for coffee and breakfast in our camp site but used the communal kitchen at night = perfect.
Lovely space under giant redwoods that you can make your own! The communal kitchen and grill area are incredible. We bbq'ed oysters and met some really nice people from the city. Love this place and can't wait to return next year, when the days are a little warmer. Thank you for a memorable experience, Oz Farm!
The Tai-Chi Yurt has an incredible view of the Oz Farm property. It sits right in front of the river, which you can hear at night. It has an awesome deck with chairs that you can sit at and have a drink. The inside was clean and welcoming and we lit a fire at night which warmed the entire place. I highly recommend it! Pack lightly, it is a walk uphill from the parking lot.
Awesome. Great people, welcoming, rustic facilities but VERY clean, common-house kitchen was perfect for cooking. Swimming and hiking were top notch. Hard to find staff, check–in was difficult, but his was not really a problem. Sunset Yurt was private and quiet, a great getaway.
As soon as I arrived I was greeted with happy workers there which was nice. They told me where to setup and I was able to purchase a veggie box from them very easily. The camp was peaceful to walk around and easy to navigate after a few hours. The community center was a huge bonus and well kept.
Great place with privacy between the two rooms, not much light inside, the power seemed to be down, but it didn't really make any difference to us, there's a wood-burning heater that works great to heat up the two rooms. They don't really talk about the community house / kitchen space which was a great surprise, with games and a cozy large couch, lots of dining space and a fully equipped kitchen.
Newbird Cabin is simply a wonderful place - all the comforts of home with views of Oz Farm! No need to pack a sleeping bag, the beds are made and the small kitchen is outfitted with everything you need :) Bring some towels to dry off after the outdoor shower, a swim in the river, or a dip in the redwood hot tub... This cabin is a great home base to forget what time it is and enjoy the simple things in life. I highly recommend you get the CSA box! I have never tasted more amazing greens and asparagus and am very excited to go back after the berries are ripe
The Oz farm is surreal and a next level spot for sure. The river is gorgeous... lots of places on the property to explore... and the Point Arena Cove and lighthouse nearby is a great stop.
Check the kitchen dry erase board to see what they have planned while you are there. The great people of Oz hosted pizza night on Sat. during our stay. We brought toppings, they had dough and the pizza oven going. Either way buy a produce box, eat like a king.
Really cool place. If you plan on cooking, bring something to throw onto their Santa Maria grill. Or if you're feeling more adventurous, fire up their pizza oven. Other than main ingredients, you really don't need to bring any supplies for cooking - the kitchen has everything.
If you drive up from SF via the inland route, stop at Sonoma County Meat Co in Santa Rosa for grill supplies and Mosswood Market in Boonville for a sandwich. And expect at least a 4 hour drive with a couple of stops.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Newbird Cabin. We took the scenic route down Hwy 1 and arrived at Oz Farm and were greeted warmly by one of the residents there. There was a community space with a kitchen, running water toilets/showers etc but we opted to spend most of our at our secluded cabin up the hill at Newbird! The cabin was nice, there was plenty of space and a kitchenette area and a fire place which we liked. There was no electricity or hot water but we had brought our own camping lights. There was also an out house closeby. The cabin stayed toasty with the fire on and once the sun went down we enjoyed some quiet time just laying by the fire. This has to have been one of the most quiet and peaceful evenings I've had in a while! We had a nice time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Thanks Oz Farm!
Wow, Oz farm is incredible. It was rainy, misty and wonderful during our stay. We arrived at night though and the actual tower was a bit hard to find. You drive by the main gate, look for some signs. Mainly because the property is SO BIG- to be expected. I can't wait to go back.
Oz Farm is lovely. My friend and I (plus the dog!) stayed here for two nights and had a great time. The yurt is up the hill overlooking the farm. You couldn't ask for a more idyllic or private view. Oz farm a special place and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a quiet weekend!
Wonderful family weekend! Worked really well with our two children who are 1 and 3. The yurt was warm enough, we did take extra duvets which were used. There is a small hill climb up to the yurt but our 3 year old enjoyed the hike. Lovely farm, great facilities and a little creek to explore. Will definitely be going back.
What a gem! The perched position on the hill provides a private retreat and the friendly folks at the farm made us feel at home. The kitchen in the cabin was easy to use for basic meals -- and a short walk away there's access to the gourmet shared kitchen, if needed! Highly recommended.
This place is magic. We arrived on a Friday and stayed until Sunday. The staff was so friendly and helpful but also not around that much, which made it feel like we had the place all to ourselves. :) The river area is super close to the yurt so we had a lovely picnic and we loved that we were able to use the wood burning stove in the room to heat up our morning coffee. It was so romantic and lovely!
we LOVED our stay at Newbird Cabin and at Oz Farm in general. We made the drive up from San Francisco on a Friday and got in right at sundown. The staff gave us some wonderful recommendations for places to eat in Point Arena and ended up at Bird for a fantastic dinner. The following day we made dinner with another couple in the communal house and had the chance to chat with Dean, who was so warm and hospitable and happy to answer all of our questions about the farm. We soaked in the tubs below the kitchen in the morning which was an added bonus we weren't expecting. Thank you so much, Oz Farm, for a fantastic weekend! We will be back again soon!
Our stay at Oz was magical. Somehow we lucked out got the entire farm to ourselves and everything was so beautiful and peaceful. The host was so kind and gave us a tour of the farm because we were interested- what an incredible property! There are hiking trails to explore and a beautiful river, not to mention the epic farm and sweetest farm dog. Tower cabin was rad, although we ended up spending most of our time in the communal kitchen/living room. Definitely bring lighting, as there was no power in the cabin while we were there. And ask for a CSA box! We loved cooking meals in the cozy kitchen. We will definitely be back for another stay!
Pretty farm and wonderful people. I would highly recommend staying here. The composting toilet isn't for the faint of heart but the cabin itself is spacious and can sleep a large number of people (4-5 beds!). The communal house is a 10 min walk and has flush toilets, showers, and kitchen. Make sure to bring lighting with you, though, the farm runs on solar and the lights loose their charge in the cabin after about 30 minutes.
