Old West Ranch Site #2
in Silver Fork Ranch, CaliforniaFrom the moment you drive off the I50, along the meandering and beautiful Silverfork Rd and through the gates of the Old West Ranch you know you're in for a digital detox. Here life is simple and off the grid. The site is nestled in a pretty meadow surrounded by towering redwoods. In every direction there are trails, climbs and rivers to explore. Water is pumped fresh off the mountain and Rod provides a great stack of free kindling and firewood per site. All the plots have fire pits but the one we had also had a great suspended iron grate you could lower for cooking your supper. The amenities are basic. The portaloo was the cleanest I've ever been in and for a nominal fee Rod has a great hot outdoor shower for use. The important thing to note about Old West Ranch is be prepared. It's a along drive if you've forgotten the garlic or any other essentials. That said that's what I liked about the place, it forced you to stop doing the usual running around and made you enjoy the moment. Rod is a perfect host. He lets you be but is there if you need any local knowledge or advice on anything. You're allowed to wander Rod's 40 acres to your hearts content. It has a fence all the way round so you can't get too lost. The perfect environment for kids to have the freedom to roam, reminiscent of times past.
