Rustic comfort on the pacific coast
This gazebo is part of a larger property called Dabudage, which was our home away from home last weekend. We were looking for somewhere to rest close to the Esalen hot springs and chose Dabudage as it was roughly 20 minutes away by car. It was definitely one of the more memorable places we've stayed at.
Getting there from Highway 1 was not hard at all, it's a short drive from the highway up their driveway. Checking in was easy, we simply parked the car (they have a space that can fit 5-6 vehicles) and wandered around until we came across one of the hosts.
The gazebo itself is perched atop a hill beneath a redwood tree, and it's a short hike up there from the parking lot (around 2-3 minutes). There is a lot of vegetation surrounding the gazebo so you'll have privacy from the rest of the guests in the property, and the gazebo itself has curtains you can draw shut. There are two wired bulbs that provide light. There are tables and chairs for you to set down your things as well. The bedsheets/blankets/comforter are thick enough to keep you warm at night, and the bed has several layers of fitted sheets and a mattress protector so you don't have to worry about bedbugs.
Right outside the gazebo, there is a faucet where fresh drinkable water from the stream nearby is piped. A few steps away, there is a composting toilet available for your private use. Bring flashlights though, the trail going up to the gazebo has steep sections and is not lit up at night.
As for the rest of the property, do check out the Dabudage website. There's a lot to do - hike to the beach, check out the tipis, play with their instruments, be creative in their art/sewing studio, or cook something up in their kitchen. It's definitely a great place to get away from it all.
