Wow! So much to say about our time here. Celeste and Elijah were so welcoming and we had such a wonderful experience during our stay. They generously met us in Kayenta and we followed their car down a dirt road to their land tucked into the canyon. It was about 5 unpaved miles once we turned off the main road. We took it slow through the trickier sections and our car did just fine. Celeste and Elijah showed us around the property and let us know the rules and gave us more info about her family's land. The orchard is beautiful with red sandstone buttes surrounding it. We pitched our tent near the spring stream and fell asleep to the sound of the trickling water. In the morning they graciously took us on a hike through Box Canyon. I definitely recommend doing this as you get to see more of the diverse landscape with a beautiful view at the top overlooking the canyon and beyond. We brought our dogs with us and they had so much fun running through the paths and climbing on the rocks. As a reminder this is a PRIMITIVE site, just as stated in the description. There are no facilities and you must bring water (or purify from the pond) and pack out any trash. Personally we enjoy this type of camping most as you feel more connected to the land. We are already looking forward to our next stay here and spending time with Celeste and Elijah. I highly recommend staying here for anyone visiting Monument Valley, passing through, or as its own destination point. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!
