I love the peacefulness of this place. We had somewhat of a waterfront view on site C1 of the lake which is part of the Toledo Bend Reservoir. We could’ve had a waterfront view if we chose row E. There are 3 sites there. We had a nice gravel site with FHU. Campground is surrounded by tall trees. The only downfall is the phone service connection. There is WiFi, general store, big dog park, swimming pier, boat dock, and birds constantly singing. It’s a beautiful place for me.

Upon arrival late at night although I gave David a short notice he showed up in the Darkness with his family and showed me around the campsite and made sure that all our questions were answered unfortunately on the second day my girlfriend who isn't a big camper wanted to cut the trip short and David was courteous enough to provide us a refund although he didn't have to we'll definitely consider coming back in the future the campsite was very well organized and clean and easy to locate.

We had an amazing time at Hilleetla! Alissa and David are wonderful hosts with a beautiful property, and their friendly dogs love joining you on little adventures.
The location is peaceful and quiet, making it a great place to disconnect and take in the sounds of nature. At night, the stargazing is incredible—you can see countless stars on a clear evening. We stayed for two nights, and the weather was perfect with very few mosquitoes.
The property itself offers diverse terrain and rich biodiversity, making it a great spot for exploring. The amenities were well thought out, including a composting toilet, shower, and convenient water spigots throughout the site.
Overall, it’s a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We’d definitely recommend it!

I normally stay in the NF except during hunting season. This was a last minute trip. The property is beautiful, peaceful and quiet. I was the only one staying. The owner Alissa was quick to contact me with information and we were able to meet when I arrived. I booked for two nights but only stayed one and it was awesome. I stayed near the pond located in the back of the property. Two of her dogs hung out with me until I went to bed then came back and had coffee with me the next morning, lol. Would definitely recommend staying.

Camp at this east Texas state park to enjoy everything Steinhagen Reservoir has to offer. Fish from multiple lighted fishing piers, or launch your boat from one of several ramps. If you pick the right campsite, you could cast your line next to your tent or RV.
Follow two paddling trails take you through a cypress wetland with iconic bald cypress trees. Watch for turtles sunning themselves on logs, but also keep an eye out for alligators. Gators usually avoid humans whenever possible.
Hike or bike along 7 miles of trails. The 3/4-mile Island Trail takes you to an elevated pier with great wildlife views. Whitetail Trail overlooks a cypress swamp with tall, majestic trees.
Lay outside your tent at night to gaze at millions and millions of stars. The lack of city lights makes the night sky come alive. Bring a star chart to see your favorite constellations.
Around 122 campsites have electricity and water. Another 51 sites have water. Check out 44 shelters or two cabins.

Ive only been in July on two separate occasions and the campground was basically abandoned. We had no one camping near us and had tons of amazing trees to keep us shaded. We went canoeing while there and there is easy access to a boat launch. It can get pretty warm so you can rinse off in the showers in the bathroom facilities that were always kept up with. Though right along Caddo Lake the waters are warm so they offer great relief from the hotter days. Opportunities to see deer, ratcoons, opposums, squirrels and owls. It was always a fun trip and has beautiful sunsets along the water.

Martin Dies has a wide variety of different types of campsites. We chose a fairly open spot right on the water's edge. We were glad we did because the sunset views were awesome, and there was a breeze that kept the bugs away. We went on a bike ride down to the campsites in the wooded portion and the bugs were awful. The kayak dock looked very peaceful, and you can rent them there. However, certain times of the year I would bet the mosquitoes would eat you alive.
The only weird part of our stay was when people drove up two sites over and set off fireworks for over 20 mins (illegally). THIRTY minutes later a ranger showed up on a golf cart saying that she heard someone might be shooting a gun. 30 min response time for gunfire?!?

Two separate campsites Walnut ridge and Hen House. Walnut ridge has sites that are really spacious and private with small to medium views of the lake. Some sites are near the highway and can be loud. Hen House had great views of the lake, and was very quiet
