Beautiful property! me and my friends had a lot of fun, the only thing I would recommend is if you’re getting a tent, to make sure it’s in the shade or under trees other wise your tent will get HOT and the ac won’t do much during the day. Also there are a lot of spiders so make sure to bring insect killer spray.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place! A perfect getaway for friends or family. The campground is spacious and has everything you need to enjoy your time in nature. Shane is an amazing host—friendly and helpful, yet respectful of your privacy. Even though he lives nearby, you still feel like you have your own private space to relax and unwind. We truly had a restful and enjoyable stay. Highly recommend this camping spot! 🌿⛺️

My husband and almost 3 year old son had a blast at Rabbit Run! The 20 foot yurt had a bed, inflatable futon, cute inflatable orange chair, two end tables, and a chest with more blankets. Sam was amazing and gave us a fan and some portable battery packs because it was a hot, 90 degree day. The site is tucked into the forest and we drove past it multiple times because it's so hidden! There's a massive hammock, table with chairs, and a fire pit. We were able to cook breakfast in the morning. It unfortunately rained most of the night after 7pm, which Sam warned us about. But we stayed warm and dry in the yurt and the sound of the rain was enchanting and helped us sleep. The Learning Center was a short walk away. There was a bathroom with a shower, some toys for our kiddo, and a fridge for our food. They have pizza nights most Saturdays, but not on 4th of July weekend. We went on the farm tour in the morning and our son got to play with goats, sheep, and dogs and see chicks and chickens. Seeing him so happy was easily my favorite part of the trip! The campsite is 40 minutes away from Starved Rock, but we didn't go because it would have been so crowded on the holiday. Next time! Thank you for such a wonderful getaway, only 2 hours away from Chicago! We needed it.

We just got back from the most amazing stay at Whispering Pines in Geneseo, IL, and we can’t say enough good things about it! My wife and I brought our two boys (ages 4 and 1), and it was truly the perfect family getaway. The modern cabin was spotless, beautifully updated, and had everything we needed to feel right at home. Our boys absolutely loved waking up each morning and heading straight to the playground and sandbox—it kept them entertained for hours. One of the highlights was the mini trail with a scavenger hunt, which was such a fun touch for the kids. What really stood out was how kind and thoughtful the staff were. One of the employees went above and beyond by bringing a kiddie pool from her own home so our boys could splash around and cool off on the hot days. It made their trip extra special! The bath house was extremely clean, and we felt completely safe throughout our stay. We are already planning our next visit next month because we loved it so much. Highly recommend Whispering Pines to anyone looking for a relaxing, family-friendly camping experience!

We had a great time on the farm! Our kids loved playing with the animals, spent hours on the playground, and cooled off on a hot day by wading in the nearby creek. And we all enjoyed Sam’s informative and entertaining sunset tour around the property. As an added treat, we were there on a day when U-pick blueberries were open - some of the best we have had! The tent was plenty big for 2 adults/2 kids, and had everything we needed for an easy and comfortable stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hungry World Farm. We arrived on a Saturday around noon and left early morning on Sunday, but the day and night we spent there were very nice. Our tent was clean and comfortable, and the site is such a beautiful place. The tent was very hot during the day, but Sam was kind enough to provide a fan. The Learning Center has AC, games and toys, which was great to have during the hot day we had. The pizzas were delicious too. Our kids loved the animal farm, especially the baby goats. Thank you Sam and HWF team for providing a wonderful experience!

Great people work there and they are very informative and hospitable. Sam is quick with response time through the app, so we were never sitting wondering what was going on. Family owned private campground since the 1940's. Very secluded and private. We offer a very unique experience that you will not find any public campground. I many ways we have a "private state park". Nice trails for hiking or biking. There is even a small "race track" in the bottom bowl near the creek. There are several direct access points to the creel for fishing or wading. We have miles of marked trails that are easy for everyone. Horseshoe Bend Main is a larger campground with four dispersed sites which a very spread out. This site has (3) 30 amp outlets for RV's. Porta potties are also provided. The Horseshoe Bend Creekside sites are designated spots that are on the West Panther creek bank. There are porta potties, but no electric or water.

Kickapoo Creek Getaway

4 acres right on the creek when the water is low there is a huge beach you can even camp on don't worry about getting wet or using the beach that's all included. You can bring down your ATVs, go carts, dirt bikes ect for riding around the campground kiddy trails if you look in the "Extras" section it's only 5 dollars per vehicle. You can fish the creek there are some deep holes on some bends and near the far bank that a good fisher can spot right away. There is a big fire pit and ring usually there is enough wood around the property to get a fire going(unless everything is soaked from rain). I added a big charcoal grill, a hammock and another table by the fire pit as well (3 all together). There is a rented porta potty by the fire pit area. There is a gravel parking spot just off the road (you will see our "Camp here with HipCamp" sign) that has enough room for 5 cars or so and you can park in the grass along the edge of the property by the road. **NEW AS OF 9/20/24** You can now drive down on to the property thru the access path north of the gravel parking area there is enough room to drive a truck and trailer and turn around down there. When it is wet the drive in is not rocked yet so just keep that in mind(i just started rocking in the drive this year 2025).**New as of 2025** i hired a mowing service and the campground main areas will be mowed weekly untill October. Sometimes the cars on the road can be loud at night but that's about all you gotta worry about on the wooded area but It is much quieter if you camp on the beach you can't hear the cars just loud frogs and bugs much nicer if you get the chance to camp down there. Frakers Grove Farm

Frakers Grove Farm has been part of my family since the 1980s, but its history extends back to 1828 when Michael Fraker arrived and negotiated a peaceful settlement with the local Native American tribes, becoming the first settler in North Eastern Knox County. His grave, along with those of approximately 26 relatives and friends, is located on the property. Camp on a 250-acre farm in Western Illinois, featuring a 1.5-acre pond stocked with Blue Gill, Crappie, Wide Mouth Bass, Catfish, and resident Grass Carp, plus a small creek. The property also has trails and abundant wildlife, including deer, American river otters, beavers, geese, wood ducks, and raccoons. A Jon boat is available for use on the pond. We offer 1 Walk-in Camp Site and 1 Drive-In Site by the pond, each with a fire ring. RV camping is currently in a trial phase; your feedback is invaluable. This area provides primitive wooded camping behind and around the pond, with the RV site located next to the pole barn. Note: The RV site listing is not normally active, so please reach out in advance if interested. Guest WiFi is available near the buildings. Assistance with transporting tents and supplies to and from the campsite on check-in and check-out days is available upon request. Facilities include a Porta Potty and potable water from a yard hydrant, both located near the Pole Barn.
