Kickapoo Creek Getaway

1 site · RV, Tent4 acres · Bellevue, IL
4 acres right on the creek when the water is low there is a huge beach you can even camp on don't worry about getting wet or using the beach that's all included. You can bring down your ATVs, go carts, dirt bikes ect for riding around the campground kiddy trails if you look in the "Extras" section it's only 5 dollars per vehicle. You can fish the creek there are some deep holes on some bends and near the far bank that a good fisher can spot right away. There is a big fire pit and ring usually there is enough wood around the property to get a fire going(unless everything is soaked from rain). I added a big charcoal grill, a hammock and another table by the fire pit as well (3 all together). There is a rented porta potty by the fire pit area. There is a gravel parking spot just off the road (you will see our "Camp here with HipCamp" sign) that has enough room for 5 cars or so and you can park in the grass along the edge of the property by the road. **NEW AS OF 9/20/24** You can now drive down on to the property thru the access path north of the gravel parking area there is enough room to drive a truck and trailer and turn around down there. When it is wet the drive in is not rocked yet so just keep that in mind(i just started rocking in the drive this year 2025).**New as of 2025** i hired a mowing service and the campground main areas will be mowed weekly untill October. Sometimes the cars on the road can be loud at night but that's about all you gotta worry about on the wooded area but It is much quieter if you camp on the beach you can't hear the cars just loud frogs and bugs much nicer if you get the chance to camp down there. Have Fun!

Wildlight Refuge

4 sites · RVs, Tents143 acres · Maquon, IL
We have 143 acres of explorable territory. About half of the property sits at a higher elevation than the lower wetland area. There’s some nice hiking, although a few trails are a little overgrown. There are tree stands set up throughout the property. Guests are allowed to climb and sit in them if they want to rest and observe nature. Just be careful climbing up and down. Around half a mile of riverfront access offers many options for fishing spots on the Spoon River. When the river is low, camping is permitted in the lower wetlands. It’s a steep drive to get down there, so I recommend AWD/4WD. There are a handful of camping spots in the higher timbered area. An outhouse with a composting toilet and a shower is currently in the works for the camping areas. Hoping to have them finished in September/October. Just a fair warning, there are currently no facilities for these things, but we’re getting there. There’s a small lodge onsite with relatively minimal accommodations. Guests can come to the lodge area to charge devices, like phone, flashlights, etc, if needed. Guests can always stop by to socialize and hang out. Coffee, other drinks and meals can be prepared in the lodging area. You can also make a fire at your campsite and may burn any downed wood you find on the property. If you’re interested in a longer stay, please send me a message and we can discuss

Camping in Anderson Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area guide

Overview

About

Bring your binoculars to Anderson Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area; this place is a birder’s paradise. Swell up with patriotic pride when you spot a bald eagle or two in the winter, and gawk at the huge number of white pelicans that gather here each spring as they head north during migration. If birding’s not your thing and you can’t tell a pelican from a bald eagle, then 1) you might need to get your eyes checked, and 2) no worries—there’s plenty else to do besides ogle at our feathery friends here.

Take advantage of the park’s two public boat ramps and tour the lake via your vessel. Cast a line for crappie, bluegill, bass, and more (the fishing’s especially good in early spring). Hunting for deer, rabbit, quail, and duck are also popular pastimes. And if all else fails, simply take in the beauty of a sparkling lake surrounded by silver maple, cottonwood, and lovely willow trees. That’s what the “great outdoors” is all about!
