You are able to drive to the entrance, park and snow shoe in if you'd like. The part of Highway 20 that is closed is on the west side at milepost 134 at the Ross Dam Trailhead and on the east side, at milepost 171 at the Silver Star Gate, near Mazama. Welcome to the North Stilly River Yurt — your off-grid, magical dreamland in the forest on a winding river! 🌲🌊 Come experience a peaceful, secluded getaway tucked into the forest above the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River. This unique yurt sits on 5 private acres and offers an adventurous yet comfortable place to relax, explore, and reconnect with nature. ✨ What to Expect You’ll park at a hilltop above the yurt and follow clearly marked stairs and a winding trail downhill (about 0.8 miles total) to reach your yurt and riverfront areas — a great way to stretch your legs and start your outdoor adventure! Once you arrive, enjoy: A 20' yurt with a comfy queen bed and space for additional sleeping gear. A large welcoming rock patio with fire ring, picnic tables, and BBQ. Plenty of room to pitch tents down near the river or in the fern grove. A sand bar and shallow areas perfect for exploring, playing, or cooling off in summer. You can then creep along the trail further and come upon a nice flat, comfy greenery area to pitch multitudes of tents, have a swing in the hammocks, or play some yard games. ⚠️ Off-Grid Info The yurt is fully off-grid — bring your own drinking water, food, and supplies. There is no heat source inside the yurt, so plan accordingly for cooler seasons. An outhouse is located on site. It’s a perfect spot for groups, families, and anyone who loves the rhythm of the river, the rustle of the forest, and a true outdoor retreat. And yet the magic does not end-- emerge further down the hill and you will come upon the glorious North Fork of the Stillaguamish River. It is mighty during the winter months, but flows to a slow and shallow trickle during the summer making it a wonderful place for romping of children and pets alike. There is also some swim holes if you need to truly cool your skin down. The flowing Stilly has blessed us with a very large sand bar on our side of the river which has an abundance of flat, soft sand to pitch more tents on, and also build castles in for the littles. Lastly, don't forget to catch the fantastic view of White Horse Mountain from the two seats that overlook the river! Catch it during the day or during the night with the moon in front of the mountain. You will never forget it!

Even closer is Whitehorse Regional Trail (great for biking, walking and horseback riding) built on the bed of the former BNSF railroad through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, spanning over 27 miles. The nearly level trail meanders through the valley, rewarding visitors with picturesque, landscape views of forests, farmland, streams and rivers, and mountain vistas. Sites have a generous fire pit and access to a Porta-Potty. For bathing I recommend cool dip in the Stillaguamish River. Our 7 acre property is located between the Stilliguamish River and the Whitehorse trail. It's a mostly forested property with trails through the woods. The central clearing contains our large vegetable garden and our home. We provide a 10x12 furnished wall tent with electricity, lights and an electric kettle, and an outdoor cooking area with potable water a stove and a few pots. There is also a propane firepit. The toilet is an outhouse. The tent is surrounded by trees, thus very private, despite this being a residential area. Near the tent there is a bench overlooking the river and a steep trail to the rocky bank. On your roughly 3 acre part of the property there are trails to stroll through our woods. These will lead to the Whitehorse trail. Turn left 1 mile to Squire Creek and right 1 mile to the old Fortson mill ponds. There are two bicycles available for your use. The Whitehorse Trail is a rail trail suitable for bicycling. You can be in Darrington on a bicycle in about 40 minutes or ride the other direction to Oso in about an hour. In Darrington there is a mountain bike park on North Mountain, a coffee shop and a brewery. Come enjoy nature at it's finest at our lovely campsite!

Thirsty Creek Farm has been a 10 year project to create unique places to camp and stay with full appreciation of the beautiful mountain setting. We are on a five acre wooded parcel at the top of the Stillaguamish River Valley (near Darrington). The North Cascades National Park is just 40 miles away, but there are great places to hike, rivers and waterfalls to see so much closer (some within walking distance). It is about a 15 minute walk to a good swimming hole in the "Stilly" river. Originally built for us, the tiny cabin is now available for rent. We lived in this Cabin for 5 months while we were building a house on the property. The bed is a queen size memory foam mattress, with seasonally appropriate bedding. We provide a mini fridge inside for your perishables. Bring a cooler if you need more space. We have 2 propane cooktops, one outside and one in the pantry. There are electric lights and enough power to charge your electronic devices. There is an outdoor kitchen for washing up and a rainwater outdoor faucet. The toilet is a flushable camp toilet. The Tiny Cabin is our premier off-grid accommodation. With full views of Whitehorse mountain and a limited amount of solar electric power the small cabin is the perfect cozy getaway for 2. For families we can add a cot or 2 for a total occupancy of 4 (but very tight). Extra guests are $10/night per guest. If you want to make it a group, there's plenty of space to put a tent adjacent to the Cabin, and even a space to park a small camper/Van. Additional parties are $40/night. Maximum People on site is 6. Winter campers: In Winter we do not have water (due to freezing), but we supply you with 5 gallons of potable water in a jug. For heat, we are insulated and we can provide a small electric heater to keep the chill off. The woodstove is more than adequate to keep the place warm and we do have wood on hand. Summer Campers: Once we turn the water on in spring the cabin has heated rainwater for showers and for washing dishes. We also have a cold water rain shower outside.

Maple Creek Meadow

18. Maple Creek Meadow

47mi from Diablo Lake · 1 site
Drive down this shaded two-track road through the forest, cross the bridge over Maple Creek, and emerge into a meadow surrounded by woods. A hand-crafted tiny house is on your right, and a camping area is ahead of you, where you may choose the spot you like for your tent or rig. To get there: In Maple Falls turn Left on Silver Lake Road. In 2 miles, turn right onto Independence Lane, then shortly after, at the T, turn right again onto Full Moon Way. After the second house on the left, keep going a short distance, following the Maple Creek Meadow signs, turning Left onto the good two-track road to the Meadow. It's about 800 feet, (passing a small building where water is available at a hydrant). The road crosses a bridge over the Creek, and leads into the clearing. You will see the tiny house on your right, with its woodshed, and, looking to the left, an accessory building (The Tool Shed), where the composting toilet is located, along with a place to hang your sun shower (provided). If you are renting the Tiny House, you my park directly behind it. There are two picnic tables which may be used for cooking, eating, and washing dishes. The open meadow has room for two or three tent and camper sites. Just upstream from the bridge is a beaver pond, the beavers often busy though seldom seen. There is a trail to the pond, which is a good place to view bird life and hear frogs sing. The vegetation includes many large Sitka Spruce, Red Cedar, and Bigleaf Maple trees with their common understory plants, which now include trilliums, bleeding heart, and the less-loved stinging nettles. Two miles north from my place, on Silver Lake Road, is Silver Lake Park, a lovely large County park that offers swimming, fishing, trails, and small boat rentals. Two miles to the south is the community of Maple Falls, with its own trail network as well as shopping for groceries, hardware, treats for your pet, local art, and as of this writing, a food truck. Maple Falls is the second to the last town heading east on Mount Baker Highway, which ends at Artist Point in the heart of the mountains. Many hiking trails are to be found in the area along the highway. Maple Falls Visitor Center is a good place to get info on the endless attractions available.

The Mountain Nest sits on a lot in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood in Maple Falls, WA. It borders a vacant forested lot and a lot with friendly neighbors and trees. Outdoor BBQ and covered picnic area, as well as a fire pit are available for use. Please provide your own firewood. Pleasant Valley is about 4 miles from downtown Maple Falls and from there you are a hop, sip, and a jump to beautiful trails for summer time hiking and Mt. Baker ski area for winter sports. The cabin has a queen size bed with a waterproof mattress protector, please bring your own bedding. The cabin is off grid with no kitchen set up so you need to provide your own camp kitchen and ask that all cooking and food remains outside under the covered area. There is a portable potty on site. Again, there is no running water so you will need to be sure to bring your own containers.
