Sycamore Bay Woods on Grand Lake

5 sites 路 Tents25 acres 路 Wyandotte, OK
The land was bought from the Quapaw tribe by my great-grandfather and his brothers. I have about 22 acres situated along highway 10 on one side and grand lake on the other. I have been harvesting firewood last few years and have cleared out some nice primitive campsites along the beach to choose from on the trails, or there is plenty of untamed woods still remaining for total seclusion... The land is situated between 2 fault lines (in what is called the "Seneca Graben" or "seneca sycline") that since the erosion of the Boston mountains a million years ago , made a 30 mile series of folds and lifts that run parallel to each other. On my property the 2 lines are only 400 yards apart and the lower fault runs along the water. The other line is what forms the westernmost edge of the Ozark plateau uplift. Because of these tectonic plates right under us, many different types of geologic features can be observed, as well as flora and fauna from both environments blended together. Learn more about this land: Plenty of open campsite possibility to choose from. Clearings have been made on edge of woods most of which have lake frontage in addition to the 5 sites that I have cleared so far back closer to highway. There is a dry creek that floods in the spring that cuts across the property diagonally. It has been used as a bison and mammoth trap and kill site for centuries on sycamore creek and my arrowhead collection proves this. Historians say humans have been settled into this area for 25000 years as it was important confluence of neosho and spring rivers called grand river that met sycamore creek in my backyard. Since prehistory, humans have used the dry creek beds to spook animals away from their water holes - up the fastest escape thru creek only to fall on their pikes in the pits they dug out.
