The pasture is quite visible from Old Route 66, nearly adjoining it. Therefore people travelling “the Mother Road” find it quite convenient to stay with us. Grass is the best forage for horses, especially older ones, so we take meticulous care of our pastures, so it is usually very beautiful scenery for campers, too. Plus the entire back half mile is bordered by old forest. And there is a swimming hole not a half mile away. Learn more about this land: This is quite a quiet and private site, bordered by a neighbor's old forest on back, other neighbor's cattle pasture on side, and you're in one of the pastures used by the Horse Sanctuary. (You are camping about 1/4 mile, more or less, from our house.)  We regularly see coyote, wild turkeys, deer, fireflies, and the like.   We are just 1/2 mile off Old Route 66, therefore there are quirky little museums and great restaurants (for such a rural area!).   Plus we are only about an hour's drive from Branson. MO. which is a known tourist attraction.

Loved being able to feed the horses carrots. It was a good experience and we enjoyed watching the horses get trained.

Let me first start by saying I chose this camping site because I love horses. I got to ride one when I was about 10 years old, 40 years later I wish I could ride like the guys on the TV show Yellowstone. The view is beautiful. The horses grazing in the pasture is picturesque. The fact that Candida rescues these horses from being killed and my money goes to help her take care of them, will keep me coming back out to camp here. The night sky is beautiful. I haven't seen so many stars in over 40 years. Thanks Candida for taking care of horses that couldn't/wouldn't be taken care of otherwise, and for providing a little place on your land for people like me to get away from the loud and business of city life. I'll be back for sure.

Overly optimistic listing for a vin
I made this reservation early Sunday for a planned Sunday and Monday night stay in the “vintage trailer”. I received a quick response from the host stating that they were out of town unexpectedly and had not remembered to take down their listing. No problem. I just expected a refund of my 30$X2 nights. The host then offered to let me stay in her barn. She runs a force sanctuary. She left very specific instructions regarding how to access clean water, the barn, lights and a mattress. I am from a farming community in the Northeast and thought I knew what I was getting myself into. When I go to the sanctuary, I entered the barn to find a very cluttered space. There was no clean section of barn floor on which to place the mattress. There was a single lightbulb for the large barn. There was no fan and no form of ventilation. There were no windows. The barn doors needed to stay closed to keep the horses out and away from the food. Fortunately one of the volunteers taking care of the horses in the hosts absence arrived within an hour of me and offered to put me up at her place. The host is aware that I did not use her facility and has not contacted me about a potential refund. The vintage trailers referenced in the Hipcamp listing not look habitable at this time. I think the listing is overly optimistic regarding what they are providing.

Camping next to horses
Not too far off the highway; a quiet and pleasant stay. Ground isnt too level if you're in a camper (its just a field) and It would be hard to get in through the gates if you have anything longer than 17 ft. Lots of old horse poop but I didnt mind. The horses and cows made good company. Overall a fine and convenient place to stop for the bight

Peaceful and quiet stay
We had to find a place last minute on our roadtrip out west and this place was a perfect car camping option. Directions were clear, the spot was clean, quiet, and peaceful. Unfortunately we arrived when it was dark and left when it was dark so we didn’t get to see the horses :( but I was happy to know that our payment went to an amazing cause!

Save your sanity and save horses!
It was peaceful and relaxing, though you can hear road noise from Route 66. This is a rustic spot and the latrine is a fair distance from the site. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Beautiful walk in the pasture with the horses one morning. Nice fire in the fire pit (free wood provided). Great to know my hipcamp fee goes toward these majestic animals’ rehabilitation and subsequent adoption. Saving lives and enriching lives.

Starry starry night
What a delightful campsite! It was perfect for me because it was immediately off Historic Rte 66, which was the route I was following. No big detour required. It was very quiet and pastoral (which of course what you would expect at a horse Sanctuary). There was minimal light pollution so the stars were spectacular.

Didn’t feel much like a horse sanctuary. Was a bit challenging to get through the gate into the back field. But it was a Nice and quiet night in a big field.

Watching the horses go by.
We relaxed after setting up the tent on a grassy spot in the evening watching the beautiful horses and fireflies. It was too warm for a fire in the firering but there was plenty of camp wood to use. In the morning our coffee was enjoyed while watching the cardinals, horses and chickens. The rustic setting was nice, and lots to do near by. The hosts were helpful and very accommodating. Water was available and an outhouse which needs attention, but had supplies and lights.

Our airstream barely fit.
The back pasture offered land, space, and fireflies at night - exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately, despite calling ahead to confirm our size was ok, the gated entrance was difficult to drive through with double 90 degree turns under overgrown trees, branches, and through a narrow gate. Our truck and 30' airstream barely fit. My husband had to get out his hatchet, climb the tree, and cut off branches. He was pissed. Listing said they had water - we inconvenienced them by asking to add gallons to our tank. They had to connect our hose to their hose to their house and it took 30 min to get 20 gallons. Better recommended for tent camping or a popup trailer.

Perfect random stay
Very pretty property. Horses, chickens, fireflies... Camp area is private and away from the house. I didn’t build one , but there is a fire pit. Easy in, easy out. Grassy, not muddy.

It's one of those places that's quiet, out of the way, and you see the stars as clouds. I booked my stay 30 minutes in advance and they were there ready for me, even with fresh firewood! So wonderful as a stop on a long road trip.

Safe, private campsite
Candida's horse sanctuary was a lovely place to stay. I was given a private spot at the far end of the field near the forest, with a fire ring, firewood, a table, and even a lighter in case I forgot mine (which I had!). I enjoyed sitting outside at night listening to the coyotes howl, feeling perfectly safe.

Really great spot! Stopped over for the night during a road trip and couldn’t be happier! It was awesome seeing the horses wandering around and we even met one of the dogs! Campsite itself was clean and spacious, and we appreciated the table/chairs and fire pit. Also, the moonrise was unforgettable! Candida was responsive and informative and I’d happily recommend her place to anyone stopping in the area!
