Our land is located at the convergence of Pine Cover Bluffs dipping into the badlands and ending on a rolling prairie. This diverse landscape inspires artists and nature enthusiasts to visit and enjoy the variety of activities the ranch provides. The ranch sits at the center of natural geologic history, as well as rich pioneer and Native American heritage. Homesteaded in 1887 by ancestors of the current caretakers, you’ll find a wealth of knowledge about the land and its history.
Enjoy endless big skies as you soak in the sunrises, bright daytime views, and gorgeous sunsets that darken into spectacular views of the Milky Way galaxy. We are close to Mount Rushmore, Fort Robinson, Agate Fossil Beds, the paleo-Indian dig site known as the Hudson-Meng Bone Bed, and the Chadron Fur Trade Museum. Toadstool Geologic Park is our next-door neighbor.

Coyote Crossing is a beautiful valley just south of the Great Black Hills of South Dakota. If you want to experience the prairie, we have grassland, wooded areas, and even sand and sage spots, if that's what you're into! There's many acres of trees along Horsehead Creek to explore with many cottonwoods over 100 years old and hidden groves. Our RV rental and dry camp sites all come with access to our gathering area with the chickens and goats for live entertainment! Feeding the goats and gathering your own eggs is an option here! There is an outside bathroom, horseshoe pits, fire pit and covered seating in case the weather gets moody.
Just 5 miles from the property are all the water activities you can imagine at the Angustora Reservoir and Recreation area with beaches, docks, and multiple eating establishments. 10 miles away is the beautiful town of Hot Springs where you can find bones at the Mammoth Site or take a dip in the healing waters of Moccasin Springs or the historic Evan's Plunge! Just beyond town is Wind Cave Nat'l Park where you can see buffalo and other wildlife. Mt Rushmore is only 30 miles further, along with the Crazy Horse Memorial! There's just too many sites to explore in our area to list!
If you're into gambling, Prairie Winds Casino is just a 20 minute drive. 42 miles to the south is Fort Robinson State Park where you can visit the museum and explore the old army post. Chadron State Park is also there, along with Toadstool Park.
We do harvest our alfalfa up to 3 times each season. So if you'd like to see how that is done, inquire on the timing!

I had the most wonderful experience staying at Coyote Crossing. Andrea is a thoughtful, friendly, above and beyond host. First and foremost I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. In addition, the property is beautiful and quiet, with the silliest goats who are all quite characters. I look forward to returning again!

Andrea was amazing and so kind to us! She responds very quickly and you can tell she puts in a ton of effort into making the space homey for people coming to visit. We camped in our car at her dry site and felt incredibly safe and taken care of. We loved being able to see all the goats, chickens, ducks, and two kitties Fredrick and Dora! 🥰 The bathhouse was very clean and comforting as well. Would 100% recommend coming to stay here!

About
Ahhh, the heartland. Wide open spaces of undeveloped land in which to spread your wings and find some breathing room. Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands is one of these places, comprised of two forests of ponderosa pine and three grassland areas. Come here to set up your temporary little house on the prairie and be a pioneer camper for a while! Wandering and exploring is unrestricted for non-motorized travel here, meaning freedom is yours for the taking! If you don’t want to just head into the abyss, try visiting the nation's oldest federal tree nursery (awww, baby trees!), or the largest extinct bison boneland in the world at the Hudson-Meng Bison Research Center. Or, head to Soldier Creek Wilderness Area for a little rewilding and backcountry exploration. Keep your eyes peeled for prairie dogs and wildflowers popping their cute little heads up, rock formations dotting the landscape, and magic around every turn. There’s a lot going on in that grass!

Dirt road reminded me of home (washboarded, but in decent shape). The web says 3 sites, but it looked more like 2-3 in the pseudo-enclosed/fire-pit area, with an open grass lot adjacent. There were 7 separate cars, with only 2 in the “fire-pit” area. An RV ran the generator all night, but it wasn’t distracting to me. It was free, also, and clean, so I recommend. I sleep in my SUV, so I selected “tent”-no RV hookups, but space for them.
