We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.”
In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.
Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work!
Thank you for choosing us and allowing us to be part of the memories that you create here. We know that you work hard for your own money, as we do. Knowing that you chose our resort to support, means a lot to our Superior Times and Resort family team. We truly appreciate your loyalty and give special thanks to our returning customers. Our property is located between Marquette and Negaunee, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We are 7 miles from downtown Marquette, 8 miles from the shores of beautiful Lake Superior and 53 miles from Pictured Rocks National Park. We are about 4 miles off of US 41 nestled in a quiet forest like setting.
We built our home here in 2019 and are continually making improvements to the land. We tap our trees for maple syrup in the spring-you will drive by our "sugar shack" and raise chickens in our very nice coop -no roosters to awaken you!

There is guest internet but its patchy in camping area-better closer to the house and large firepit area
There is a charcoal grill near communal firepit area.
We are near 2 river basins(McClure Basin and Dead River Basin) for fishing, swimming and boating ( kayaks and canoe for rent on this site-see extras! ) We are on the route of the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike epic and not far from the North Country Trail.
We have options of open sites and a couple more private wooded sites. There are at least two areas for small campers and several choices for tents and/or hammocks..
There is a communal/central fire pit, picnic table area as well as a larger fire pit with picnic table closer to house. We have nice fire wood available on site -see "extras" or for purchase when you get here!
There are yard games, extra chairs and a small table in the red shed. This can also be used as a storm shelter if needed!
There is a "port-a-john" on site- extra TP is kept in red shed hanging on nail in a bag. Please let us know if this needs attention.

It's situated on 21 acres of what was the original Wawonowin Country Club, a 9-hole golf course that was built in the early 1800s and then closed in the mid 1960s. And now we have a beautiful mix of hardwoods and pines, forests and fields with multiplied non-motorized trails accessible right off the property. The very popular RAMBA bike trails are literally an ‘stones throw’ away! Our biggest site, Fairway Field is big enough for group camping that horse campers love, and one site, the Homestead, with an electric hookup. We don’t have a dump station or trash cans so please pack in and pack out.

Hiking
For those looking for an easy stroll, the Dufour Creek Trail is a perfect place to go. There is little to no elevation gain on the trail. The path is on the shorter side, measuring in at 1.4 miles. The Dufour Creek Trail is generally well-kept, though there can be a few muddy sections when it rains. The path leads through a forest of hemlocks and cedars, fully wooded yet easy to follow. You may also get a glimpse of the native wildlife along the way.
Swimming
Perhaps the biggest feature of the entire park is the designated swimming beach. The beach remains very popular with guests, due in part to the clean, sandy shoreline as well as the vast, cordoned-off swimming area filled with shallower waters. There are restrooms and showers on site, which also have a reputation for being clean and well-kept.
Fishing
Indian Lake in Michigan features large swaths of underwater vegetation, making this area a great place for fishing. This is especially true if you are looking for panfish, as you can expect to see plenty of species like bluegill, crappie, and the like. However, there are plenty of other kinds of fish available, including Walleye, Perch, Brown trout, Rock bass, Smallmouth bass, and Northern pike. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to cast your line, whether on the shore or out on the water.
Boating
Getting out onto the lake can be a peaceful experience. You won’t feel cramped, even when sharing the lake with others as there is plenty of room for everyone. With clear water beneath you and great weather, boating at Indian Lake makes for a great pastime.The lake is fairly shallow, with 90% of the area being less than 15 ft deep. The deepest point is 18 ft. Owners of larger boats should keep this in mind when traversing the lake. If you are looking for water access for paddle sports such as kayaking, there is a carry-on access located at Indian Lake State Park at the Western Shore Unit.
Local Eats: One of the best ways to immerse yourself in the culture of a new place is to dive into the local foodie scene and Manistique will not disappoint. Here are a few of the best restaurants, pubs, and local eats in downtown Manistique.
- Clyde’s Drive-in - This local dive was straight out of the Movie Grease. Clyde’s has been a resident favorite for years. When you stop by, try some unique staples like the Bison Burger, a Big C Burger with Cheese, or a Pasty with gravy.
- Dairy Kream - This local ice cream shop is the perfect pitstop during your vacation to the waterfront district. Dairy Kream has a delectable menu of ice cream including 24 soft-serve flavors, shakes, malts, splits, flurries, and sundaes for every type of ice cream fanatic.

-An acre of land at the end of a dead end paved road.
- A mile the way the crow flys to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, not too far out of Munising, but in a quiet setting with woods to the east and south.
-There is only 1 site, so you have the area to yourself.
-Pellet grill, picnic bench, small standing fire ring and patio chairs are available for your use.
-We do get wildlife like, turkeys, deer, owls, coyotes in the area that you might see or hear!
-There is a hidden back lawn area, and I'm working on establishing a small orchard and vineyard in the back, that the site overlooks.
-Leashed dog friendly. (Please make sure you clean up any pet messes!)
-Small rolling dumpster available for kitchen trash
We purchased the property 3 years ago, had it cleared and put up a barn, we are currently working on finishing the interior. So I may be around putting in some work inside, this wouldn't be anywhere near where you would be parked.

Site 1, The Falls Site, is located on a spring fed stream.
The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path.
Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site.
Site 2, The Garden Site, is 50 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site.
Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, is a century old hunting cabin with 2 cots on the main floor and 2 singles in the loft. Site 3 includes an outhouse and sauna.
All sites have a picnic table, firepit and outhouse.
Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste.
The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended.
These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River.
4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. First come, first serve. You transport.

Wayne is great!! High level of communication before and during our stay. His water is great!
Wayne has clean water hookup, direct waste water hookup and electricity.
He has a beautiful fire pit setup behind his building. We thought the RV area was great and, of course, Munising and Pictured Rock are beautiful! Hope to be back one day!!

It was a quiet and peaceful place to stay. Close to the towns of Ishpeming, Nagaunee, and Marquette, so we had lots to do will staying there. There was plenty of land to navigate our rig in and out. Joni and Phil were very hospitable hosts!

Spectacular spot and fabulous host for our 2.5 weeks exploring the area. Our fifth wheel is 43ft with four slides and we had plenty of space. You can tell Wayne put a lot of thought into the space, and enjoys hosting people and sharing his knowledge of the area. In addition to the space for our truck and camper, we had access to a large grassy area and two stamped concrete patios (small one with picnic table and other large with two chairs, side table, and amazing fire pit). Great water pressure and water quality. There is also WiFi and a pellet grill available. Very private and peaceful. We enjoyed watching wild turkeys wander through, and our dogs enjoyed walking around the property and neighborhood. Would come back to Munising just to stay here!

We loved our stay at Joni and Phil’s. The site was very peaceful and comfortable. The individual sites are spaced very generously. It was lovely to see the horses every morning. We mountain biked and walked the dogs on the trails accessible from the property. Joni and Phil were welcoming and helpful. I’d love to stay at a property like this in every destination we visit.

Awesome grounds and easily accessible. Tons of camping if you hike-in, and a few good spots if you want to camp by the car or have an RV. Very nice and hospitable hosts. Great walking through the woods and lots of sites to see. Would definitely recommend. Bring bug spray!!! (Anywhere in the UP in summer lol)

We had a wonderful stay at Wayne's place! Wayne was quick to respond to messages, very kind and courteous, and went above and beyond by providing helpful recommendations for things to do in the area. The campsite itself was spacious, private, and well-maintained, giving us plenty of room to relax and enjoy nature. We really appreciated the peaceful setting and the hospitality. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable camping experience.

We loved camping our RV at the Homestead site at Heritage Hills! Our hosts were so kind, helpful.and friendly, and have the sweetest dogs. We had a beautiful site in a clearing near the woods, and were right in top of the RAMBA mountain bike trails. There's a really nice extensive path through the property where I could walk the dogs each day.
