Seaside Farm

18 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents30 acres · Homer, AK
Seaside Farm is a 30 acre, magical, park like farm on the shores of Kachemak Bay, just outside of Homer, a few miles down from the Kilcher Homestead where I grew up in the 1940's! . Now a song bird sanctuary, with trails, lawns, gardens, trees, hay fields, and a private beach, cabins, a clover camping meadow, it was also once part of an original Alaska pioneer homestead. Although an organic farm, with hay fields, pastures, farm buildings and raspberry patch, it is also the home of hundreds of songbirds, moose, coyotes, wild hares, flocks of sandhill cranes, two sweet Morgan Horses, and an assortment of chickens. I love sharing my farm and home with travelers, and visitors seeking peace, nature, wildlife, walks on pristine beaches, and connecting with nature, in a real Alaska, original, and non touristy setting. This property has three different types accommodations: Rustic, cozy cabins (no indoor running water), a big field for tent campers only, and a few spaces reserved for 4 wheel drive vans , and similar small vehicle camping, including rooftop tents and occasionally a small pop up trailer. If you prefer camping away from the tourist crowds, you will find our soft clover meadows, surrounded by green trees and well kept lawns, a deluxe and memorable experience. The beach is a short walk down the trail, where its peaceful and private, with no motorized vehicles or noisy crowds, only the sound of the seagulls, and the waves. Van campers have a few special areas to park their vehicles, most with a stunning view of the glaciers and mountains. There is limited parking and turnaround space, and we like our farm peaceful and not too crowded to provide a special rural experience to all who visit this magical farm. It helps to call or text before you arrive to make sure we are on site and can help you with parking and other details! There are three cabins sprinkled throughout the property. Two are off grid, close to the beach, private and magical, with wood stoves. All cabins are able to use the main farm lodge amenities, just a few minutes walk away and have their own outhouses..all with amazing views! You can walk on the beach from the main lodge parking area, there is a covered camping pavilion available to all guests, a communal campfire spot and bbq grill, lovely maintained walking trails and meadows, and even wifi! We allow most types of dogs, but do ask you to contact us before booking with us, so we can let you know our rules before you travel. All dogs must be well behaved, social, on leashes and at owner's side at all times to protect our trusting wildlife from accidental harm, like our baby pheasants, moose, bunnies, and songbird nests! TOURS OPTION As the eldest of the Kilcher clan (yes, the homestead family portrayed on the "Alaska The Last Frontier" tv series), and when time allows, I'm open to give a special tour of the unique and historic Kilcher Family Homestead and original sod roofed, log cabin museum. Available only by special prior arrangement for an extra fee (donation to the museum)

My grandparents, Stany and Nelda Jones homestead here, my father was just a toddler when they moved here with his family from Texas. They homestead this area before there were roads, and could only travel to this location via the beach and climbing the bluff. My mothers family also Homestead on the Kenai, in Ninilchik, she was born and grew up there in the small river village. When her and my dad married they continued the Jones family tradition of ranching and farming. We decided to offer our family land and share its beauty with others. Kilcher Homestead MiracleMeadow

4 sites · Lodging, Tents5 acres · Homer, AK
A few things that make my place unique: My 5 acres is part of the famous 620-acre Kilcher Homestead, as seen on “Alaska the Last Frontier” TV show. I am the 7th of the 8 children; Atz and Otto are my brothers. There is a special feeling here vibrating in the land, and why our parents picked this spot. Full outdoor kitchen with all you need to cook and wash up; BBQ, hotplate, pure drinking water, spices, pots/pans/dishes etc. Outdoor hot shower and outhouse with great views! The atmosphere feels so pure, so silent, so wild yet comfortable. Drive-in access sometimes, or have to walk 15 minutes, and no issues with mosquitoes!!! You get to meet me and maybe other family members as you cruise around. Homer is 35 minutes away, with oodles of things to do there: great restaurants, a lap pool, fun shopping, etc. We have quite good cell reception here. Lots of options to enjoy your stay!

Country Squire Farm

2 sites · Lodging, Tents2 acres · Ninilchik, AK
Hello HipCamper(s), Cole here and thank you for your interest in staying at the promising site of Country Squire Farms! I'm a former biologist and educator with current aspirations to grow food for communities and to restore our small scale food networks - Your Stay Will Definitely Help in my efforts! The sites are conveniently located within walking distance of Cook Inlet beach access and Deep Creek. Take a short drive and you could find yourself at the Ninilchik River, in the heart of the historic town of Ninilchik, or just stopped at one of the many pulloff view sites to enjoy the Alaskan wonders of the area. Ninilchik hosts incoming enthusiasts every year with so much to offer throughout the season including: -Beach access (free) -Volcano viewing (free) -Moose viewing (free) -Farmers markets (free) -Boat excursions -Bear viewing -Fishing -Rodeos -Kenai Peninsula Fair -Salmonfest music festival (Aug 2-4) -Sacred Acre music festival (Sep 6-8) Homer (~45 minute drive south) is one of the larger cities in the area. It has the CLOSEST domestic AIRPORT. Homer is a lively, faster paced, and stunning neighbor with many modern conveniences and tons of epic experiences to find near the bay. Kenai (~55 minute drive south) is another large city in the area and also has a domestic AIRPORT. Kenai along with neighboring Soldotna host lots of events including farmers markets, concerts, and live sporting events. All proceeds will be managed by Agrarian Cooperative; my personal business I formed in the summer of 2023 to create and support more private food vendors and farmers markets on the Kenai Peninsula. You could spend your money on those overpriced cookie cutter rental cabins, or rent an RV and stay in a noisy and overcrowded "campground", or ~OR~ You will enjoy the simple pleasures and solitude in a peaceful coastal town while also supporting small scale farmers and local business. Please reach out to me with any questions you may have about transportation, upcoming local events, or other questions in regards to Country Squire Farms. Or feel free to just leave a message if you're interested in supporting my efforts!

The best camping near Clam Gulch State Recreation Area guide

Overview

About

Are you looking for an Alaskan experience that’s so unique, it might raise some eyebrows? Well, then come on out to the Clam Gulch State Recreation Area, where you can dig for razor clams in between hanging out at camp. Yup, you read that right! These clams are found along sandy tidal beaches from the Bering Sea down to Southern California. There are only eight major concentrations along the Pacific, and four of them are right here in Alaska. You’ll have to go digging during low tide, keeping a keen lookout for small dimples or holes in the sand’s surface. But be careful—these little buggers really are razor sharp. And, remember to grab your Alaska sport fishing license before digging, it’s the law. It’s not just about clams here, though. Moose, bald eagles, and more frequent the area. Plus, you’ll be perched on the bluffs that overlook the gorgeous Cook Inlet, with unbeatable views of the Aleutian Mountain Range.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Clam Gulch State Recreation Area is during the summer months, from late May to early September, when the weather is mild and the days are long. Winter can be harsh, with limited access and services, so it's best to plan your trip amid the warmer seasons for the full experience.

Know before you go

  • Check the local tide charts before planning your clamming adventure to ensure the best experience.
  • Wildlife is abundant, so always maintain a safe distance and store food securely.
  • Prepare for variable weather by dressing in layers and bringing waterproof gear.
  • Accessibility may vary across different areas of the park; check ahead for any mobility concerns.
  • While enjoying the natural beauty, remember to leave no trace and keep the park pristine for others.
