This was a great getaway for a night of solo camping. The site is in the woods and level, and there was plenty of room for my tiny squaredrop camper. The table, chairs, firepit and swing-seat made the place so welcoming. I wish I had brought the whole family along - there was a ton of room. The host, Justin, was very helpful, and was gracious when I had to leave a day early due to a family matter. I wish I could have stayed longer!

Beautiful, peaceful campsite. There was plenty of firewood, and the seating around the firepit was comfortable and inviting. The location was perfect for exploring the nearby lakes and towns. Would love to stay again.

Where's the waterfall?

The site itself is peaceful and beautiful, with plenty of trees for hammocks and excellent opportunities for mushroom spotting. However, there were a few issues that impacted our stay.
The name is somewhat misleading, as we never saw a waterfall, even after a very rainy week. There is a dry ravine on the property, but no visible waterfall.
The biggest concern was the outhouse, which had a strong mouse urine odor and several rodent nests. The host did come out to clean it, which we appreciated, but we still had to purchase cleaning supplies and clean it again ourselves. There is also no water access, so guests need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
There was also some miscommunication regarding firewood, although the host did reimburse us for some wood we purchased locally.
Overall, while the property is peaceful and has potential, the outhouse condition, lack of water, and absence of a visible waterfall mean I personally would not return.

Excellent Access to NY Nature

I was grateful to have such an affordable and convenient option for camping in the area. There are plenty of trees to rig tarps for weather, the view is beautiful, and it's a peaceful spot. Of course, you get a little distant noise from traffic and big mowers, but nothing too distracting. Like another reviewer mentioned, you can see little bits of another property across the ravine ...I never noticed anyone at the house, not even their lights, and only once did a small group run up and down the path to that house on a quad. The host is very responsive when you have questions; otherwise, he totally leaves you in peace. The site is located close to many wonderful places to visit, especially Letchworth State Park (go to parks before 9:00 a.m. or after 5 p.m. to skip paying the entrance parking fee). Taughannock Falls is further but totally worth the drive. For coffee shops, I highly recommend Milk & Honey Cafe in Lima. If you're on your way to Letchworth, pick up your coffee on the way from ReNewed Coffee Co at LivCo Basecamp in Mt. Morris.
Know before you go: Cell service was excellent for me at camp (I have TMobile), but other spots in the general area may have little to no service, so it's a good idea to download maps for offline use just in case. Mice like to nest in the outhouse because of the wood shavings; this did not bother me, but in case this could be an issue for you, consider bringing your own camping toilet.

Now THIS is what we expect from a HipCamp: beautiful wooded setting, privacy, and dappled sunlight.
Yes, you can glimpse a house through the trees across the ravine, even in the height of summer, but we heard not a peep and saw no lights in our 3 days there mid-week.
The access driveway was freshly mowed, and the star-gazing spot mentioned in another review was perfect for our portable solar array. We felt comfortable leaving it up while we were away from camp because it's completely surround be dense forest. (Bonus: no road noise!)
We didn't use the outhouse because we have a toilet in our teardrop, but we loved the sturdy camp furniture... and the overall vibe.
Justin was very responsive and sent us a map of how to find the site when we touched base the day of check-in. There is a collection of vehicles on the property near the house at the entrance from the road, but once you get on the grass "driveway" down to the ravine you're totally immersed in nature -- our cat even enjoyed walking the woods!
We didn't hear or see a waterfall, which we expected would be in the ravine, so it may have been low water or somewhere else, but that didn't detract at all from our experience.
One note for folks with Tesla tow vehicles: we barely made it to a Tesla supercharging station with the RV, and we actually had to backtrack to get to one with the car only before continuing on our RV road trip the next day. This camp is in a bit of a charging desert.

Spacious site, lots of near-level ground for tents, borders the statelands in the hardwoods and if you walk the ridgeline down between the 2 ravines, you can get down to the lake easily, just a bit of weeds and brush to walk thru near the lakeside trail. The Amish furniture and picnic table make the site even better, a 12x12 canopy sets up nice and level over the table. In mid-June, we had very few mosquitoes, but be prepared for millipedes to crawl on your feet and into your tent. fireflies in the grass above the campsite.
You may get woken up by some VERY loud Barred owls lol.
We had dry weather but if you have rain, it might get a bit slick with mudwash.

This wad our second time here and we loved it! It's so quiet and beautiful in the fall! We brought our 17 ft hybrid camper and it fits perfectly there. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could stay more. This is a gem!

Beautiful site and host very communicative. The only “set back” is that once you’re on the property, the grass road to get to the site is a bit narrow so some of the branches from the growth to the sides of us scratched our cars a bit. Outside of that, it was just what we needed to get a way for a little bit. Great view of the stars on a clear night if you walk a little up from the site to the small open area.

Very private, great campfire area with nice furniture, connects to state forest area so cool wildlife, easy access, free wood was really helpful, close to a couple quaint towns and right near a protected lake. We set up a few hammocks with plenty of room for more.

We enjoyed our time at this campsite! It felt really private and we didn't see another human being on foot or driving by the site at all which was a big bonus. We really liked having the sturdy camp furniture to use and it was really nice to have the wood provided for us! When I did have a question the host was very responsive. I have already shared the campsite with a few friends!

The site is very nice, with Adirondack chair setup (two singles chairs, a table, a double with a table, a 2-3 seater swing, and a picnic table that could probably fit 8 people). There is a fire pit with grill, a pit toilet (that was very clean), and the owner left us some firewood.
The site is pretty, and overlooks a steep drop off. Its not too close, but I have a young daughter, and had to stress to her the severity of the situation, and then roped off a boundary.
We hiked walnut trail, and walked back along hemlock lake. I was told there are better trails, but this one was super close. This is close to OSB Cidery (which I recommend) and there’s a winery nearby, which we didn’t make it to.
The campsite is ver scenic, and if I hadn’t brought my 4 year old, I could have stayed onsite and read a book by the fire the whole day.

My friends and I had a really nice time staying at this site. It was perfectly spacious. Flat grounds for our tents. I brought my pups and they had a perfect amount of space to roam around. And good trees to put a line up to attach them to. The wooded chairs and swings were soo cute and comfy to relax in. Justin met us to bring some firewood down. And greeted my dogs too which meant a lot!

This place is quickly becoming our favorite spot! Very quiet and most importantly, very private. Since it's just one camping spot (not shared) it's pretty much just you and the woods. Love it! Coming back in the Fall after the trees start to change.

Serene Woodland Paradise

This is a beautiful slice of heaven , nestled in the serene woodlands of Hemlock / Candice State Forest. The large space boasted rustic Adirondack furniture , large campfire pit, swing with a view and outhouse . We ended up staying two extra days because we enjoyed the secluded paradise so much . Sunrises were beautiful coming up through the ravine and Justin is a fantastic host . We can’t wait to come back.

Beautiful site -- clean, shaded, nice fire ring, very good outhouse. I hammock camped here two nights and it was quiet and peaceful. Picnic table was great. I didn't use the swing or chairs except to dry clothes but I'm sure they're very nice too! The whole site feels secluded and private. Justin was very responsive to my questions. I hope to come back!

Have come here a couple times with our van for Goose shows at CMAC and love this spot! Our favorite HipCamp we’ve been to thus far. Very secluded and private and the furniture around the site is very convenient. Outhouse was clean and did the job for our friends without a bathroom. Owner is very nice and responsive, cannot wait to return next year!

Nice, secluded, quiet location but property seems vacant. Easy to find address but not so clearly signed to the camping spot. No reply to our messages to host. Sadly didn’t get the same experience as prior guests as barely any firewood, just enough for 1 night, and outhouse not maintained. We had to share it with all the mice and didn’t match the photos or comments from others. Outside furniture was a bonus, sat listening to the waterfall and seeing chipmunks running around.

The location and the benches around the fire pit were a nice touch. We were confused about the situation, but we want to give the benefit of the doubt since we were the first reservations in a while (first nice day in the area in a long time), and we booked the place at the last minute.
The description says to meet the owner at the site, but no one was on this property. There was a house on the property, and we knocked on the door, but no one was home.
The description also said that wood would be included, but we didn't know where to get that from. We sent a message to the owner but didn't get a response.
None of this is a huge problem, but the description might need to be adjusted. We would love to try this spot again sometime!
