Miss Kathy&#x27;s Short Branch

This is a diamond in the rough. Nothing fancy, but all of our needs were met, plus, plus. Zachary has owned Miss Kathy’s for about a year and while the campground is being spruced up, we found Zachary to be the he most gracious host we have ever had. Miss Kathy’s is centrally located between Death Valley, Ash Meadow National Wildlife Refuge and Red Rock Canyon. This dark sky area was great for star gazing. We would definitely book here again.

Pahrump Pa Pum - What a Great Stay!

This is a great spot in a secluded tiny town in the middle of the desert. I can’t say anything negative about our stay. We enjoyed seeing the nearby Ash Meadows nature preserve just after the New Year. We saw the endangered Pupfish at the Point of Rock’s site! Zanchary’s place is the closest we could get to explore the nature preserve. His place is well kept, and he was a great host. We booked one of the rv sites, and had everything we needed. We are looking forward to coming back someday! Campers beware, there is no gas station or store in town. We cut it uncomfortably close to get to Pahrump, which is just over 20 miles from the site, and we had a full tank in Vegas. If you’re pulling a rig, make sure you are filled up before you get too far into the desert. Gas options are very limited! My Jeep gets 10mpg pulling a trailer, so I was sweating it.

Quirky and close to death valley

Miss Kathy’s Bunkhouse Room

It was nice to have a bed, shower and water so close to Death Valley, although not as short a drive as Google Maps shows. The place is quirky with a hilarious backstory. Best of luck to the family trying to bring the historic saloon back to life.

Zachary is a helpful host and answers any questions you might have. We stayed three nights and visited Tecopa, Shoshone, China Ranch Date Farm, and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. The site is basic and safe.

Old saloon property under the stars

Great stopover spot! Very interesting to learn about the history of the saloon. We enjoyed the remote nature of this spot, had one of the most star filled skies I’ve ever seen! Zachary was a responsive and friendly host. We had everything we needed for a great night. Highly recommended for adventurous history oriented travelers!

Quiet location with all amenities

The host was very responsive to our messages. Even though he could not be there in person, he gave us all the necessary directions so we were able to settle quickly. The location is very quiet. Depending on where you are coming from, Google maps might take you through an unpaved road to get there. However, there is a paved road passing through the city of Crystal. The place was extremely quiet.

It was very easy to find and Zachary and his family are locals & amazing 😁 I was there when a wind storm came through and event with the crazy winds I get to see the flower moon & reenergize. My pups had some free run time in the morning 🥰 What more can you ask for ✌️🫶🕯️

Not as advertised. The saloon is burnt down and still remains in despair. There was no one around and we didn’t feel safe so left and stayed elsewhere.

Kathy is a great host. sunsets were beautiful. evenings were pleasant with cool breezes blowing. When she finishes her renovations the saloon will add greatly to the southwest charm.

The saloon itself was half burned to the ground and there was this abandoned trailerpark in the back, it felt very unsafe to me, i ended up staying the night somewhere else... Maybe it was nothing and i'm just paranoid. Anyways not a place where I'd want to stay the night in my tent. There were both water and electricity though, so that works out and the desert sunset looks very cool!

I liked the quiet and seclusion. Campgrounds can be so noisy and "busy". I ended up leaving earlier than expected since it was so hot and difficult to keep the travel trailer and my furbabies cool. We will go back in cooler weather.

We were pretty amused to be camping in what felt like a ghost town... The only signs off life were from the RV park two blocks over. The saloon was either closed for the season (really, July is not a great time of year to be camping in the desert southwest) or has not yet recovered from the fire.

Cool little spot in the middle of nowhere. Owners seemed nice but we were beat from the heat and didn’t hang out, though we were offered a cold beer. Sites 2 and 3 are right on top of each other so if someone else was camping there would have been no privacy. You are in a gravel parking lot behind the old saloon.

Kathy’s spot was perfect! Right between Death Valley and Las Vegas you get the best of both worlds. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Having full hookups were perfect in the Nevada heat. Absolutely will stay again!
