We had such a great stay at Kathy’s cabin “old Phil”. There are plenty of clear trails to walk on and fishing off the pier was great. Even with the bit of rain we got our first night it didn’t put a damper on the trip. We definitely look forward to returning in the future!

Everything was as expected for primitive campsite. We did not use the cabin. We had a small teardrop camper and tents. Nice fire and seating area. Plenty of firewood was on site. We enjoyed the trails and the lake. There were lots of large bluegill to catch.

Mirror Lake Bunkhouse
the cabin was perfect for us. We had coffee every morning, cooked outside on the propane griddle, took a shady walk in the woods and fished in the lake from both the dock and from a paddle boat. Our dog loved running in the wide open spaces and immaculate grounds. Our host Kathy was amazing and we look forward to staying here again next year.

Part of the roof is falling apart. The outdoor chairs are dirty. The picnic table and inside table gave me slivers. One of the air beds was deflated. The “river” was a dried bed. The house needs to be cleaned and maintained.
The privacy was nice, and the songbirds were lovely. There was plenty of wood for a campfire.
I wouldn’t recommend this place until it it is fixed up.

It was so far back in the woods and very peaceful. Plenty of awesome smelling cherry firewood on site. Kayaks where there for us to use, saw wild turkeys and lots of birds singing!

Kathy was a great host. The cabin campground was exactly what I was looking for. A quiet, peaceful and simple place in which to chill next to a bonfire. There was plenty of good/ dry firewood available and a nice fire pit.
FYI: There are two separate cabins. The river cabin and the lake cabin. The river cabin is more remote and the lake cabin is close to other properties in the vicinity. Both roads leading to the cabins are unpaved, non-gravel paths which are either grass or dirt/ mud. I'm glad I chose to take my pickup truck instead of my Honda Civic as I may have gotten stuck or bottomed out in route in the various holes. I was greeted by a chipmunk hanging out on the cabin's steps and there were all sorts of wildlife sounds to be heard. I definitely plan to visit again. Thank you Kathy for sharing your property with others. It was much appreciated.

It was glorious we absolutely loved it! The peacefulness and the beauty of the pristine woods and elements of wildlife surrounding us. The small lake with the sunrise reflecting was pleasant to watch. We really enjoyed being in Amish country and seeing the mixture of cultures was enlightening.

Don't get me wrong if you like being secluded it is nice but where you put the boats into the river it was blocked by a tree and it was in the end of a cove that the cabin said above so there really wasn't any water the place was beautiful though but you still heard loud radio and motorcycles up and down the highway cabin was nice on the inside the outside is cute but it look like a tree it's smashed in one of the corners they did have a new outhouse which was very nice I would go back and stay if I didn't want to fish and just wanted to camp they are very nice people so don't let this review stop you from going to check it out.

Very peaceful. My son tried his hand at fishing in the lake and didn’t catch anything, but he had a few nibbles and is a novice, so that wasn’t unexpected. Regardless, he certainly enjoyed the attempt!

Staying at Mirror Lake #1 was delightful. The cabin was clean and the beds comfortable. There was a nice campfire set up with plenty of wood. We loved cooking over the fire and putting up our hammocks. I’d recommend thoroughly checking everyone for ticks, there were ticks found on everyone who went to the river, which isn’t uncommon. All and all it was a lovely weekend

Great spot and cabin. Raw and rustic as described. Loved the privacy and the space. Great fire pit and yes, unlimited wood!!!!! Stores are 10 minutes away in Rome City if you forget anything. We brought a small char ole grill, I would recommend doing the same. Will camp here again if they’ll have us :)

There was a lot we loved about our stay at the Mirror Lake Cabin by the River! The cabin itself was very clean and secure. The site had everything we expected and needed for an excellent camping weekend, and Kathy was very helpful in answering our questions about local fishing spots and renting a canoe. The biggest issue we had was that we had come in with the assumption that the Mirror Lake Cabin by the River would be next to a river. In reality, the cabin is in a pretty wooded area next to a stagnant, shallow bog. (We had worried about mosquitoes but they were surprisingly mild for the four days we stayed!) There IS a *small* river close by, but to get to it you have to walk about 100 yards east of the cabin and shimmy down a steep bank ridge at the very edge of the property. We tried canoeing down the river, but the weeds were quite thick which made for slow going. We'd absolutely recommend this cabin for the great camping experience we had - but if you're looking for a place to swim/boat/fish in a large river steps from your camp, this isn't it.

What a beautiful place! Kathy didn’t disappoint. The cabin was nice and cozy the site it rested on was amazing. A perfect place to unwind and get back to nature. Relax on the hammock with a good book but don’t forget the bug spray.

Cabin and site were great. Canoes and kayaks available for rent to take on the river, although mid-summer the water in the channel that connects the site to the river was pretty low for the canoe (kayak was fine). The rest of the property is a Bed and Breakfast directly on the lake that comes with more amenities, but Kathy was very accommodating and helped us have a great time.

The cabin and site were just what my wife and I hoped for. We were secluded and in a comfortable environment. The cabin is as advertised and we enjoyed the simplicity. We brought what we needed based on the description of the cabin. There was plenty of firewood and the fire pit was just what we wanted. Our dog loved the campsite and we were comfortable keeping him off leash. The lake makes for a wonderful sunrise and sunset.
Kathy was wonderfully polite and her description were accurate. Her communication was also spot on.

The Cabin by the River is a wonderful place to get away from the daily grind. The site is very primitive as stated in the host’s description, but it was everything we were looking for. The cabin provided a nice sense of home and safety, when needed and the area was so remote, we barely knew there was a farm close by. The site was big and allowed for us to set up three large tents and with lots of room to spare. We spent the nights around a beautiful fire pit and the clear skies were perfect for star gazing. We were lucky to be treated to the most wonderful light show by thousands of fireflies. There were canoes for rent but we did not have time to explore the river. One improvement that the site desperately needs is a better outhouse. The hole was almost full and the toilet bench was rotting but we made it work. Kathy was a very responsive host and provided clear communication throughout the rental process. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
