Spot was nice. Tent and spot on the water was really nice. A tight fit for parking on a steep decline down to the spot.

Our birthday weekend getaway was everything we could have hoped for. My partner and I were looking for a peaceful escape that felt completely secluded from the rest of the world, and this place exceeded every expectation.
We brought our two dogs, and they had the best time exploring and playing in the creek—they absolutely loved every minute of our stay. Dan did an incredible job making the space feel cozy, welcoming, and thoughtfully put together.
To make the trip even more unforgettable, my partner proposed on our very first day there, making this beautiful place one we’ll always cherish. The directions were incredibly easy to follow, and the rock lookout was such a fun bonus with amazing views.
The outhouse was surprisingly clean and comfortable, and bathing in the creek was one of our favorite experiences. The cold water was such a refreshing shock and left us feeling completely rejuvenated afterward.
We truly couldn’t have asked for a better weekend and can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you, Dan, for creating such a special getaway—we’ll always remember it.

The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
We had the best time at Dan's semi-glamping spot! I took my 10 and 12 year old boys. It was so easy to arrive late on Friday and have most everything set up. The site is secluded, right on a creek with small swimming holes. The boys caught a ton of crawdads and had a great time on the SUPs at Lake Davis, which is a short 10min drive away. We'll be back with their mom!

Amazing stay on Dan’s property!! Perfect location where you feel removed from reality and can unplug. Easy access to the creek (literally right there) and awesome to see the trout feeding at dust! We just sat and watched all the nature come to life. Location was super close to Lake Davis so spent the day paddle boarding! Dan was very responsive to any questions we had.

Great spot! The site is well-isolated from neighbors and features a nice bench for meals and a solid fire pit. The stream on the property was a definite highlight. Dan also provided very clear, easy-to-follow directions. Highly recommended!

This is a really great spot and we enjoyed our stay! We enjoyed the roaring creek next to us and hearing the water as we went to sleep and upon wake up! The tent was well built, felt cozy and secure. The propane heater provided was a MUST as we stayed mid-Oct and the nights were cold outside. It heated it up very quickly and we had to turn it down while we slept it got so toasty. While there are 2 options for parking, if we weren't able to park where we did (closer to the tent), it would have made for more difficult logistics. We just barely were able to get our full-sized truck backed down the path (between the posts) in order to park close to the tent. In muddy weather this might have been more challenging. FYI - you need to have some pretty decent backing up and maneuvering skills to back down through the gate, esp if you have a full sized truck like we did. We did navigate to this spot at night which was a bit challenging in the dark but everything worked out well. This is a nice, secluded and peaceful spot!

My husband and I had such a beautiful stay at Dan’s property! We loved how private it was and enjoyed a romantic holiday weekend! We loved all the thoughtful touches around camp including the tent and bathroom! It perfectly fit our needs and we can’t wait to return to take in the spectacular views another time! We enjoyed the drive to the camp as well and feel that it would be fun to bring our kids and their dog next time! We loved the creek and took and dip and fished a little as well! We can tell that they put love into what they do and we are looking forward to the next time we get to stay again!

The camp was cute, but definitely closer to the road than we expected. We thought it would be an isolated experience but the road runs right above the camp and isn’t private…

Great spot with a thoughtful setup! It was cooler down in the canyon by the creek than elsewhere in the area, which was nice when it started getting hotter! We decided to use the heater the second night and it warmed up the tent FAST, even on the lowest setting. We had to turn it off after 5 minutes not to overheat! Not as buggy as I'd assumed, given how close it is to the water (still a bit, but that's nature, folks!). The outhouse, lights, and dining table setup are all well thought out and nicely done. There is a trek up and down the hill from the car, so be warned if you might struggle on a very short but steep hill with loose dirt, but it was fine for us. I think we'll probably come back!

What a slice of heaven on earth this enchanting glampsite was! My husband, toddler and I enjoyed our stay so much and it was a nice break not to have to set up our own tent/toilet. The sound of the creek was absolutely heavenly and made this site especially tranquil. We appreciated the excitement directions given to get here, comfortable bed set up to sleep on, and convenient saw dust toilet with the provided bags/sawdust.

This was my first time using Hipcamp, and it completely exceeded my expectations. I usually tent camp and always hope to find a spot that feels more remote than a typical campground—this place delivered. It was elevated, peaceful, private, and surrounded by nature, with the relaxing sounds of the creek and birdsong all around.
The site was clean, well-maintained, and had thoughtful amenities. Dan provided detailed directions, making everything super easy. It’s close to Lake Davis and town, yet feels like a true escape.
Do come prepared for bugs this time of year—it’s nature, after all! There was a provided citronella candle, but it wouldn’t hurt to bring your favorite mosquito repellent.
This is exactly what I hoped Hipcamp would offer: a chance to camp in beautiful, respectful spaces you wouldn’t otherwise be able to access.

Really fantastic spot for an easy getaway—enjoy the beauty of the creekside land and secluded experience in nature, and you don’t even need to bother bringing or pitching your own tent if you don’t want to. Dan’s got everything set up for a comfortable stay on beautiful property. Would love to return.

We had a very nice time here on this lovely land with our dog. Dan’s directions and info provided was very clear. The tent and outhouse were very clean. It was lovely hanging out surrounded by trees and with the sound of the creek, and it felt very private. It was also very quiet. It is a steep hill down to the site, the wagon definitely helped but just something to be aware of if you don’t plan on backing your car down. Thanks to Dan for opening up this space for others to enjoy.

Pure bliss! Thank you Dan for sharing your beautiful property with us and for being a welcoming and super helpful host. We needed to get away from it all and this wee slice of heaven provided just that. Would 100% recommend if you want to recharge the batteries, get in touch with your inner self, or try to save your relationship - this is the spot for you!
The tent in itself was a place of calm and retreat and we slept so well in the comfy bed. There were little touches that made it extra special and I never thought in all my days I'd love an outhouse so much!
In summary, if you love peace and solitude among the trees, the rustle and company of animals that also have a home on this land, and are comfortable with the concepts and actions behind "leave no trace" then maybe you'll find it as magical as we did.

This site is amazing! My only criticism of the site was the amount of wasps. A couple would normally be fine but as soon as we took food out there were so many we were quite uncomfortable and were nervous for the dogs. This affected our enjoyment of the site. Otherwise everything else was beautiful and done very nice.

One of the best places I’ve been to, loved how private everything was. The views were amazing, the lake and town were no more than 10 minutes away and the paddle board was super fun! Don’t know what was the best part waking up to river water and birds, or the hikes and nature walks.
Definitely recommending and coming back a few times a year 💕

The campsite was so nice and clean. A beautiful area and easy access to the river. Not many places to explore, but still a spacious area to spread out and relax. It did get colder at night than we had expected, so bring extra warm things. Great experience if you want something cute, quaint, and private. Would absolutely recommend!

Wow, what a spot! If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing, unplugged spot to camp, this is the place! Dan’s property was an absolutely amazing creek front property with trails down to the water. Very peaceful listening to the water while relaxing after a day fishing on Lake Davis. Dan was extremely helpful and responsive to my questions before and after booking. Do yourself a favor and book it, you won’t be disappointed.

Amazingly beautiful clearing right next to the creek. We loved being able to enjoy the sound/sight of the creek during our entire stay. The provided tent was cozy and offered plenty of room for our luggage / getting ready in the morning.

Gorgeous little spot right before you get to Portola! Lots of room to yourself, amazing tent, and cool bathroom concept. It’s pretty secluded, we saw a couple other people driving away from what we assumed was another private camp site, but no other traffic other than that. The camp site is down a pretty steep incline, so make sure you’re aware that you’ll be packing everything you brought down (and then back up), without the help of a vehicle, but we didn’t find it too bad. We will definitely be staying here again, what a beautiful little place!
