East Texas is home to the first Spanish mission to the state. The Civilian Conservation Corps built a replica of that mission church in 1934. Hence the name, Mission Tejas. There's also a restored log home on the property that dates back to 1828. The home served as a stopover for pioneers. Before Europeans arrived, the Caddo people lived in this area. Some of their sacred mounds dot the landscape at Mission Tejas.
History aside, hiking and fishing are the main activities at the park. A picnic area sits near the pond. A 4.5-mile trail meanders through the property's dogwood forest. In late March, the pink and white dogwood blooms make this area sing with color. Soaring pine trees offer shade, which comes in handy during warmer months.
Mission Tejas offers 15 developed campsites for RV hook-ups along with two rustic sites
