The best camping near Millwood Lake guide

Overview

About

Located in southwest Arkansas where the Little and Saline rivers meet, Millwood Lake is like that Pixar movie that everyone can enjoy. Fans of the area swear it has some of the best fishing in the country due to 35,000 acres of submerged timber that make excellent homes for many varieties of fish. Seriously though, we’re being a little modest. This lake has some of the best largemouth bass fishing in the nation, with a plethora of bass fishing tournaments and derbies to back up that claim.

Aside from being a holy grail for anglers, this is an excellent wildlife viewing spot featuring white-tailed deer, bobwhite quail, squirrel, dove, rabbit, raccoon, armadillo, opossum, fox, mink, and beaver. Picture that Noah’s Ark of animals frolicking among remarkable flora life such as gum, oak, birch, pine, juniper, flowering shrubs, and wildflowers. Aw heck, stop reading this. Just get in the car and go!

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book your campsite well in advance to secure your spot amid the natural beauty of Millwood Lake.
  • Check for cancellations regularly as plans change and spots may open up unexpectedly.
  • Consider visiting during the weekdays for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Explore nearby camping options to ensure you have a backup plan in case Millwood Lake campgrounds are full.

When to go

The best time to visit Millwood Lake is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its peak. Summer offers warm days perfect for water activities, though it's also the busiest season. Winters can be chilly, making some facilities less accessible.

Know before you go

  • Always check the current water levels and weather conditions before planning your trip to Millwood Lake.
  • Familiarize yourself with the local wildlife and practice safe viewing, especially when fishing or hiking.
  • Review the park's safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a secure and enjoyable visit.
  • Accessibility may vary across different areas of the park, so inquire ahead if you require special accommodations.
  • Pack all necessary supplies, including water and snacks, as amenities may be limited in certain sections of the park.
