Our property is nestled between Hwy 385, the Mickelson Trail, and the National Forest.
We are located between Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park along Hwy 385 and the Mickelson Trail; about 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain.
The nearest towns with restaurants are Pringle, (2 miles S); Hot Springs, (24 miles S), Custer, (9.5 miles N).; Hill City, (24 miles N), and Rapid City, (50 miles N).
The blacktop driveway grants easy access for every type of vehicle.
A couple of ponds, creeks, and dispersed willow, pine, and aspen trees enhance the diversity and beauty of the landscape. It is peaceful here and we enjoy sharing it with our guests during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.
Plenty Star Ranch Retreat has our home, a big pole barn (RV storage), a garage/wood workshop with an attached restroom for all guests, a regular hot water shower cabin, 2 small home-built camping log cabins, 7 RV sites, 9 clearly marked tent and car-camping sites, and several water hydrants fed by our well, providing great quality drinking water. 2 pets maximum per campsite, no pets allowed when booking a cabin.
Check-In is 2 pm to 9 pm; Check-Out is 10 am for the cabins and 11 am for all other sites.

The red bluff in the background was a very strategic vantage point for early Indigenous Americans for hunting game that roamed the creek bottom.

The Redwater Creek is full of Brown and Rainbow trout. They are sneaky little buggers that can actually hear your footsteps when you are fishing along the bank.

The privacy on Calvin and Kay’s land is exactly what we were looking for. Also, being able to have a campfire was a must. The communication with them was quick and helpful. We reserved the camper site for a long weekend in September and loved our site. They are right near the entrance to Spearfish canyon and it is beautiful there. June was super responsive to all of our questions which was great. It is very peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend. The site is concrete and there is water hookup which we loved. We have a 26ft camper and recommend backing the camper in for the smoothest transition. If we decide to come back to the Black Hills we would stay here again.

The ambiance Horse Creek Resort presents is unlike any other campground in the Hill City area of the Black Hills. The niche fire pit and hammock's are cozy. Horses in the foreground create a serene experience. We were nestled amongst friendly seasonal residents with lots of local knowledge to help us get the full South Dakota experience. Joey, the host, is a salt of the earth kind of guy. If you love horses he’s your guide. Garret, Joey and Matt excel at hospitality!

The platform was great, having a level tent site was enjoyable and sitting on the edge to put shoes on was an added bonus! Some beautiful hikes along a grassy track just up the road were highlights, we found mushrooms and berries and enjoyed the quiet beauty ❤️

We camped there with our 25 ft RV. Nice and clean site. Very peaceful and private. Enjoyed not being in a big camp site. Site is right at the entrance to Spearfish Canyon. Would definitely stay there again. Slab is not level due to drainage reasons. Be prepared to level out RV.

Directions were very easy to follow and set up of campsites was logical and well spaced apart. We were the only ones there that night. Stayed at site 4. The toilet was a portable unit. Very clean. We got surprised that the water was turned off for the season but our host brought us water from his place which was plentiful. We recommend!

Absolutely beautiful!! You aren’t too far from town but it definitely feels like it! We stayed for 1 night with our dogs and had such a perfect time. I was a bit worried about the drive to the site but it was fine and we had no trouble. Small suv AWD had no problems in and out, even after it had been raining. 12/10 recommend booking this spot! Host was super nice as well!
