The famous 'Driftless Books' is also found in Viroqua, along with live music on Court Street every other Saturday. Music in the Parks also offers live music in the area on Wednesdays throughout the summer. We are 22 miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a bit further North, from Ontario WI, one may embark by canoe or kayak, through some of the most stunning landscape to be found in Wisconsin. This area is called The Driftless because it lacks glacial drift, which refers to the deposits of silt, gravel and rock that glaciers would have left behind had they passed through this part of Southwestern Wisconsin. The area is unique in that the land here was never flattened by the ice that came through most of the Midwest during the last glacial period/ice age. When glaciers were in surrounding areas, the melt-water sometimes made its way into the Driftless Area and contributed to the formation of the valleys and bluffs which characterize the landscape, which is known for steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology with caves and spring-fed cold water trout streams. Ecologically, the Driftless Area's flora and fauna are more closely related to those of the Great Lakes region and New England than those of the broader Midwest and central Plains regions.

The Cabin in a 16x16 one room lofted 6 feet from ground with 2 decks just next to the path to the woods and entrance. It has a queen size bed, large flat screen, wifi, hot pot, mini fridge, outdoor grill and microwave with various kitchen utensils. There is no running water in the cabin but there is a dry sink and compost toilet. A shower is just a short walk away at the main cabin with all the instant hot water that could be asked for. We have plenty of extras to share if you need something, if not a Dollar General is just a mile away. Please be aware there are poisonous plants and various wildlife that roam freely. No animal hunting allowed. We love pets and have adopted ours which roam freely. We’re sorry we can’t accommodate yours for that reason… we can recommend local accommodations for your fur babies.

Outside, enjoy a fire pit, a small grill, and the quiet beauty of the surrounding landscape. We have three friendly outdoor cats who may come by to say hello. They love people and food, so please be mindful of not feeding them and keeping a close eye on your meals if you choose to eat outside. The tiny house includes electricity, a full refrigerator, and a stove top with oven. While there is no running water inside, fresh water is available just steps away for drinking and washing up. We also provide an outdoor, chemical-free porta potty. We are located across the street from Otter Creek, a popular trout fishing stream. Within a few miles, you’ll find additional fishing, hiking trails, kayaking and canoeing access, farmers markets, Amish shops, and a vibrant mix of local organic food, arts, and handmade goods. We’ll meet briefly at the start of your stay to go over the space, and afterward, you’ll have full freedom to enjoy the land and your own rhythm. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place to ‘glamp’, look no further! Echo valley farm is made up of a handful of rustic cabins (no plumbing, but yes electricity) that offered my wife and I a nice place to cook a few meals, listen to the birds, have a fire, and rest our heads. The shared outdoor shower served us well after a day floating down the nearby Kickapoo River. Dena was a very accommodating host that made sure we had everything we needed. Being able to buy some cinnamon rolls from their bakery was the cherry on top. The overall vibe offers a nice mix of humble farmer, DIY, community dwelling energy that we greatly enjoyed. Bonus points for the library of books on homesteading, straw clay house construction, and poetry. We definitely plan to come back.

What a little piece of heaven that we needed for the weekend. We did all the Amish things, had great local food, LOVED petting the calves, and relax by the fire at night with a beautiful sunset! Breezy on the ridge, so no mosquito bites. Christine is a sweet, attentative host. Will def be back ☺️

Weekend Trip to The Rosebud Retreat

We absolutely loved our stay at the Rosebud Retreat pink camper trailer at Folklore Village! This is a stand alone little camper a few steps from WC facilities and shower facilities just down the road. The trailer has a lovely little deck that looks out over a field, it has privacy while being nestled behind a few other Folklore buildings. The camper does not have running water, but there is bottled water available; no stove top, so you might consider bringing a small single camping stove, which is what we did. So we used the microwave and fridge in the trailer and our own burner outside the camper to cook a bit of salmon and boil water in the morning. We absolutely plan to stay there when we go back to Gov.Dodge.StatePark to finish some rock climbing routes. A beautiful small climbing crag, by the way, with sandstone reminding of Luxembourg! Highly recommend this hipcamp option. Can’t wait to get back to it ourselves!!

2 nights at Echo Valley Farm

The trip to this beautiful cabin was like coming home. We only were there for three nights but this place will live in my heart forever. What a warm farm full of love this is. We were so grateful to have found the special place to unplug, touch the earth and listen to the multitudes of lucky birds that live in the orchard. We were treated to not one, but two rooster led chicken parades up to the cabin. Cannot recommend this place enough. The scones from the bakery were out of this world. 25 stars out of 5.

Beautiful views!!! Charming living quarters. Christine made sure you have the essentials such as gas grill, coffee pot, microwave, crock pot and electric skillet and cooking utensils. There is no refrigerator or stove so make sure to bring ice. Full size bed is very comfortable . There is a porta potty close to the building. There is talk about a portable shower coming this summer. Very quiet and lovely stay.

We adored our stay at Elysian View Farm. The view is indeed spectacular, especially at sunset, and the rural surroundings, both agricultural and natural are stunning. But even more beautiful, for us, was the warmth, kindness, and generosity of our hosts, Christine and Dave. They made us feel special and cared about, helped us find a beautiful fishing spot, and treated us like family. We are honored and blessed to have been their guests.

Had a wonderful time at River's edge! There were some heavy thunderstorms going on throughout the State during our stay, so we were able to enjoy beautiful lightning and thunder from the safety of the cabin porches and the forest around us! Also enjoyed the trails around the forest and River banks. Caught a beautiful sunset. Would definitely recommend!
