Previously a 100 acre century farm, this fertile land was tended to by generations of old time farmers. Their dairy cows pastured in areas which we now graze sheep. The restored quarry provided gravel for the nearby highway restoration and local projects.The property is currently a mix of hay ground, cropland, pasture, forest, and quarry. Twin sisters, Darla and Kayla, and their families live across the road from each other and own the surrounding 140 acres. They keep busy planting/tending trees, making hay, moving fence for grazing animals, operating a farm business called Twin Folk Farms (pastured meat, camps, etc), and raising their families.Learn more about this land:- This site is at the edge of a restored quarry, sheep pasture, and wooded hillside.- The site is tucked down a flat mowed path, so it feels very private and protected. - You can hike up a path to the sheep pasture. Our elevated shack is perfect for a one-person getaway, with views of fields, woods, and gardens. It’s just a short walk from your personal parking spot, with mowed paths and trails to explore in the woods. The space is accessible year-round—there’s AC for the warm months and heat for the colder seasons.
Amenities include an outhouse, a BBQ grill with charcoal, a table, and a fire pit. A hammock and outdoor gear are also available. Our friendly dogs, Wally and Sunny, will likely greet you—they roam freely. And then there’s Bobby Sue - our rescued tomcat who thinks he is a dog. He is very curious and will undoubtedly come to visit. If you bring a pet, we ask that it remain leashed, as we have chickens on the property.
We’re a short drive from Class 1 trout streams, including the Kinnickinnic and Rush River. If you prefer to stay on the farm, the shack features a writing desk and an outdoor porch table—perfect for when inspiration strikes.
There is no Wi-Fi, but there is an AT&T tower nearby for data connection. Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint users may have limited service. A small fridge, French press, hot plate, fresh water, and basic utensils are available.
Peony Power Farm is my new business, where I am in the process of planting and cultivating peonies for the cut flower market. The plants take 3 years to mature for cutting, but once in bloom, the Hattie Shack will offer a beautiful view of the peony fields. In the meantime, Wayne and I plant huge vegetable and flower gardens. The abundance is amazing and we love to share the beauty. Please join us in this little slice of paradise.

Welcome to comfort and relaxation! Exquisite rural setting in the river valley of the St Croix. Cozy up in this new barn apartment on our property that is close to beautiful parks and trails and many attractions and also a half hour from the twin cities.
The space
Designed with modern and well equipped spaces in mind, the entire second floor of the barn space is for our guests use including a full laundry room and fully equipped kitchen.
For sleeping accommodations we have the main "owners" bedroom with a queen bed, the secondary bedroom has 2 twin beds. In the living room, the sofa has a pull-out queen mattress made of quality memory foam and bedding. In addition to or if preferred, we also have a Queen size double high air mattress with built in pump and also a twin double high mattress with built in pump and all bedding.
The Loft at Strawberry Hill provides its guests fresh towels, linens, and many other necessities such as dish soap, dishwasher/laundry tabs, shampoo etc.
Other things to note
Balconies on both ends to enjoy beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Many trails for walking. Afton Alps resort and Afton State Park close by. Private fire pit and Adirondack chairs on premises for our guests outdoor use. Great restaurants in quaint downtown Hudson 8 min. away and historic Stillwater 15 min. away.
For bed setup. We can sleep 6 comfortably or more depending on if the queen beds are shared. There is one queen bed in bedroom #1. Bedroom #2 has 2 twin beds. Then we have 2 nice tall inflatable mattresses with built in pumps and all needed bedding that set up in the living room. One mattress is a queen and the other is a twin.
We also have a tiny home on the property if extra space is needed, please inquire! You can find it listed as "The Little House on Strawberry Hill.

Easy to find, secluded but only 10 minutes to Pine City. Fabulous communication. This cabin is well stocked and adorable. The screened porch and outdoor hammock made quiet relaxation a breeze! I love birds and was able to hear, see and identify several species new to me! Matt caught small mouth bass and northern while the grandkids practiced kayaking skills. Easy access to a 1 1/2 hr kayak float down to the cabin at a nice public access. The river was gentle enough to allow paddling back upstream as well. Highly recommend a stay at either of this property's cabins.

Had a great stay at Whippletree Farm! My husband and I booked this site to take his younger siblings on their first ever “camping” trip. Peter’s cabin was the perfect intro to camping experience! My sister in law loved the goats and chickens and spent plenty of time with the cats that were roaming around. Having perks like the compost toilet, beds w/sheets, and fans was especially nice because it meant I didn’t have to pack as much stuff. We wanted to do a day of Mall of America and a day of hiking at Willow River State Park, so this was the perfect location. 10/10 would recommend!

The cabin is lovely, secluded and we were lucky to have a clear night for stargazing. The toilet inside is fantastic, especially for those of us a little older. Kitchen is stocked with basics, great coffee and there is a cooler to keep your perishables.
My only con was the hike up to the cabin, but again, I’m old. Darla did send someone to help haul stuff up when I called.

Really great site, we had beautiful weather and didn't really spend much time in the cabin. There was plenty of firewood available to us which was really great. When we were going to bed we couldn't help but think we missed out cause the cabin was really great. Great time, great site and great cabin.

Awesome cabin! Our stay was a little unseasonably chilly so we spent a lot of our time inside in front of the fireplace. A modern cabin with all the amenities was exactly what we needed. Easy access to fire pit and grill and very close to the river, which was nice. I wish there were more direct walking paths from the cabin to hike with our pups but we made due walking down the main road. Great place to stay, thank you for having us!!

3 nights at Kickback’s Angler Shack
This cabin is so lovely and cozy! I was concerned about being warm enough in late March but I had no need to be. The gas fireplace keeps the cabin incredibly toasty. The creekside fire pit is picturesque. I enjoyed making a morning fire and watching the creek flow by as it gently began to snow. This was the perfect spot for a weekend of quiet reflection. Truly magical! Thank you!

Weekend Trip to The Loft at Strawberry Hill Farm
Beautiful space! Many times pictures make a place look pretty, but you get there and everything is flimsy. Not here! The couches and bed were very comfortable, the kitchen was very well stocked etc. We stayed in winter, so didn't explore the grounds too much, but could see there was a lot to do.

Weekend Trip to Sonder Schoolhouse
Sonder Schoolhouse was such a beautiful place to stay for the weekend! Super quaint and had everything we needed & we loved how secluded it was while also being close to the Twin Cities. The host was also reliable and available for any questions. The only downside - there were a lot of flies inside that could be annoying at times.

Weekend Trip to Whippletree Farm & Nature Trail
Such a unique place to get away for a day or 2. Love the farm and the animals. We had the opportunity to meet the property owners, they were super nice too. We had a unique request for this retreat and we were accommodated. Would definitely return and recommend.
