Cozy Cottage with woods and prairie
Cabin · Sleeps 3Our forty-acre immigrant farmstead hosts retreat guests committed to creativity, spirituality, and learning. We're near several rivers and the city of trails. We have five kilometers of trails on the property with woods, prairie, and ponds for walking, birding, cross-country skiing, and delight. We prize healthy holistic living. Guests and residents choose to remain free of alcohol and drugs. Please tell us a little about the reason for your stay. The space The cottage is a rustic 15x30 tiny house with two sleeping lofts. Sunny south-facing windows look out to the garden and prairie. Interior white clapboard walls reflect the light. Cozy area rugs top the stained concrete floor. The kitchen has dishes, cutlery, and pots and pans; an electric stove, refrigerator, toaster, and coffee maker. A ceiling fan circulates heat in winter or blows cooling air in the summer. Water is provided in containers -- one for drinking water and another for washing and cooking. Guests use the nearby privy and rustic outdoor shower (available seasonally). We rigorously clean and sanitize between guests vis a vis our county health department and Airbnb guidelines. The cleaning fee includes sanitized linens for one bed. If you wish to use the other beds, additional linen fee of $10 per bed applies.
During heating season, the wood stove with a glass door provides comforting warmth and a view of the fire. We provide wood and instructions on managing the stove. To manage hot weather, we recommend closing the door, all windows, and window coverings in the morning to keep the heat out, and opening everything up in the evening to circulate cool temperatures. It’s not AC but works pretty well.
Our farm strives to eliminate virgin or single-use plastic. We recycle and offer composting.
All electricity for the property comes from a photovoltaic solar system. EV charging available. Please ask about arrangements.
The cottage is one of four separate live-work spaces on the property. Two are reserved for residents and two are available for guests.
We have a guest book in the cottage with information about the area and farm.
