Welcome to the Hattie Shack! My husband, Wayne, built it when our young daughter wanted to have sleepovers. It’s now a peaceful and idyllic slice of heaven for your personal retreat. Writers, artists, musicians, sojourners, and outdoor lovers are all welcome to enjoy this creative and colorful glamping experience. Our elevated shack is perfect for a one-person getaway, with views of fields, woods, and gardens. It’s just a short walk from your personal parking spot, with mowed paths and trails to explore in the woods. The space is accessible year-round—there’s AC for the warm months and heat for the colder seasons. Amenities include an outhouse, a BBQ grill with charcoal, a table, and a fire pit. A hammock and outdoor gear are also available. Our friendly dogs, Wally and Sunny, will likely greet you—they roam freely. And then there’s Bobby Sue - our rescued tomcat who thinks he is a dog. He is very curious and will undoubtedly come to visit. If you bring a pet, we ask that it remain leashed, as we have chickens on the property. We’re a short drive from Class 1 trout streams, including the Kinnickinnic and Rush River. If you prefer to stay on the farm, the shack features a writing desk and an outdoor porch table—perfect for when inspiration strikes. There is no Wi-Fi, but there is an AT&T tower nearby for data connection. Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint users may have limited service. A small fridge, French press, hot plate, fresh water, and basic utensils are available. Peony Power Farm is my new business, where I am in the process of planting and cultivating peonies for the cut flower market. The plants take 3 years to mature for cutting, but once in bloom, the Hattie Shack will offer a beautiful view of the peony fields. In the meantime, Wayne and I plant huge vegetable and flower gardens. The abundance is amazing and we love to share the beauty. Tiny House Comfort, Enchanted Views

The Hattie Shack

I had a great couple of days at the Hattie Shack, nestled at the edge of a huge meadow of wildflowers surrounded by woods. I had the privilege of being among the first to stay at this new Hipcamp listing but have a feeling it’s soon going to become a popular destination for nature lovers and artists. Hosts Wayne (carpenter) and Kiki (artist) were great – easy to work with, helpful, and hands off. The Hattie shack is well built, sturdy with lots of windows. If you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a tiny house, this is your chance to try one out. The stilt-house makes such clever use of the small space. The bed is super comfortable. There’s a writing table, small kitchenette, and a cabinet with a large jar of water. The hosts have two friendly dogs, and I let Kiki and Wayne know that they were welcome to visit. The property has paths throughout and several times the collie, Wally, showed up when I was out for a stroll to keep me company. I often set aside time to write, but I get caught up in projects and distractions. At the Hattie Shack, though, I found the time and the inspiration to draw and write and think. I was happy with my work there, completing a couple pencil sketches and writing for several hours each day. During a summer of tasks and chores, it felt good to give the creative part of me some oxygen. And it was especially fun to do so in a place that had such a playful “middle earth” feel.
