We are less than a 1/4 mile from Maniac Mountain Haunted House, so you will hear the chainsaws, gun shots, and screams during the Sept-Nov time. We have 120 acres of wilderness you can explore. Be cautious of wildlife and look for WARNING signs. We have a private shooting range in the bottom fields of the property so you may hear gun shots April- September. The range is for our junior marksmanship program to practice for Nationals and local matches.
For winter months Oct-April water supply will be limited. A propane heater can be requested as well for the the yurt.

Audra State Park is less than 20 minutes away with lush forest trails with caves to explore. Well known hiking trails such as Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and the Dolly Sods are all within an hour drive. Go to Nelson Rocks for the ultimate climbing experience on the Via Ferrata.

Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

A lightly traveled public dirt road runs through our property. While an SUV or 4x4 is recommended, regular cars can access the site, and we have parking for standard vehicles. Please check with us in advance if you plan to bring an RV. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping—perfect for getting your truck a little dirty!
We are cautiously dog-friendly. Our farm dogs patrol the property to protect our free-roaming animals, so visiting dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and comfortable around other animals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please reach out for advice. Our dogs will come to your camp to "check you out". If your dog has a problem with other dogs that are new to them you must let us know so we can control our dogs. We have had people come with problem dogs and not tell us so, we are asking for a $1 extra that we now require as a pet fee.

Our stay was fantastic! Jontra is extremely responsive especially considering the lack of service in the area. He brought us fresh veggies, wood, and a treat for our pups! Totally unexpected and appreciated. His property is beautiful and private, great for camping in an RV with the electric hookups and well water, or tent camping which is what we decided to do. There’s also plenty to do within driving distance which Jontra had recommendations for as well. Our only regret is having to leave early to do our friend’s pup getting sick. Would definitely return!

This is our third year coming back to Earth Sky and as always, we had a great time. Emily is always very responsive. The campsites are spacious and the area is peaceful and quiet. There are paths down to the river for easy paddle boarding or swimming. We also like to take a trip down the road to Arden Falls to hang out for a bit. This year, there were bundles of firewood at the campsite for $10 each which was super convenient. Hope to return again next year!

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp
We loved tent camping at Appalachian Retreat! Our site was huge and very secluded! The entire property is extremely quiet and far enough away from everything to feel completely private, with the exception of the occasional vehicle passing along the gravel road.
The site itself was very well maintained. The composting toilet and shed were very clean! Bugs were not too much of an issue until nighttime, but we did not encounter any issues with wasps/yellow jackets/hornets. There were definitely some pretty large bugs and spiders, but they were overall harmless.
Our favorite part was hearing the coyotes passing through each night! We also got to hear an eastern screech owl on our second night, which was so cool! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our camping trip!

We loved camping by the river on this land. The site is where the river splits and then joins back together, a really cool spot. The views are absolutely beautiful. The kids enjoyed fishing and playing in the water. The site was the perfect amount of shade and sun. Samantha, our host, was more than accommodating. We would love to visit again.

Quiet, Quiet, Quiet….. did I mention Quiet.
It was 4th of July weekend and I wanted to get away from the noise and people. This was the perfect choice for me. I was the only one there. No cell service made it even better. I fished a bunch and caught loads of fat happy bluegills and a bunch of bass in the 1-2# range. There are some big cat fish and carp in the lake as well. As someone who usually fishes rivers and creeks, it was fun to stay in one spot and fly fish for some warm water species. I napped, read and chilled in a beautiful and quiet environment. If that sounds like something you would be interested in, this is the place.
