Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. We enjoy bird watching, exploring our forest, and relaxing around a fire when we aren't working on the farm. Seasonal Strawberries and pastured poultry are our specialties, and we offer a wide variety of veggies and fruits. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. If you like to camp in the winter, like to take your dog, and want a roof with a heater over your head, this is perfect! It was a perfect island adventure. Fred's special touches included easy access pottable water and dishwashing sink on the porch of the cabin, a clean/neat outhouse, a bug flap, heater, microwave, fridge, and COOKIES! We walked down to the beach, took a couple trips to beautiful parks, and enjoyed the views of the water from the cabin. We brought a tent/shelter and put it up for an extra "room" to enjoy the views and grilled cheese/tomato soup, hot cider, and apple crisp. We heard coyotes howling in the distance, owls hooting, saw deer, coyotes, and river otters. We truly had an island adventure we will always cherish and remember. Thank you Fred for providing us this opportunity!!

I loved staying at Fred’s cabin! Truly had everything you need including an incredibly friendly and thoughtful host. It was quite stormy the weekend we stayed but it was perfectly cozy in the cabin with the little heater :) Fred even let us know when he heard about a nearby orca pod, we didn’t get to see them as they went on up to Tacoma, but he let us borrow his binoculars and told us all about the island and its animal sightings! 10/10 stay and weekend- hope to be back soon!

We had a great experience staying at this cabin. It was cute, cozy, and easy to find. The beds were comfortable. We really appreciated having a fridge and sink, it made things a lot more convenient. This was a first time visit. The ferry was charming and cabin was very clean and well appointed. There was a lot of consideration into comfort and ease of use. We enjoyed dinner at the lakeshore restaurant. Went for walks in the woods on the island and slept very peacefully.

We had an amazing time enjoying the lake and water amenities. We had no luck fishing, but theres plenty of fish jumping and we will try again the next time we stay! We went in mid-September, so a bit off season and it felt very private and cozy.

Loved this glamping spot! A cabin with electricity, microwave and mini fridge made the perfect getaway. I tried it out one weekend with friends and liked it so much that I brought my kids the next weekend! Fred is such a fabulous host and so friendly along with everyone else I crossed paths with nearby. We brought our hammocks on stands and it was perfect for relaxing and viewing the Salish Sea and watching wildlife nearby and watching the night sky. My kids and I enjoyed swimming at Lowell Park on Lake Josephine too!

We stayed in the Coho Cabins - what a luxury! Clean, upgraded, with every amenity you could think of, including a Nespresso. The park itself felt safe, with a nice spa-like hot tub with water views, great staff, and even games in the community area. Walk across the street to a deck with stunning views (you might even catch a glimpse of a seal) and a fairly quiet beach area. I spent many relaxing mornings on that deck. Only complaint is that the photos of the views from within the cabin are inaccurate - the cabins are stacked right next to each other, so there is no mountain or water view as advertised (just trees or the other cabins). Otherwise, such a nice experience.

I live in San Diego but I used to call this area home. I was looking for something that reminded me of all the things I love about the Pacific Northwest. This cabin surpassed all of my expectations. I arrived to find a welcoming basket that took me by surprise. I’ll let you discover what was in it when you book your stay. The hosts had thought of everything I might need and more from a fully stocked kitchen, firewood for the wood stove inside or the fire pit outside, and plenty of coffee! I stayed in the main room downstairs and it appeared brand new and thoughtfully designed to keep the charm. I did peak into the bunk room and found the pirate themed room adorable. I know my niece and nephew would have loved it. I found myself forgetting how close I was to a city. I was surrounded by trees on all sides except where the lake opens up to you. My first morning, I went out to the dock just as an eagle dove into the water and caught a fish. That same day a family of four otters swam right past me and just minutes later I turned around to find two deer in the yard. I was traveling with my dog Baxter and was glad the hosts had put in a dog run so he could sit outside with me without me having to worry he would go chasing every furry critter that poked its head out. This was the PNW I remembered and loved! I enjoyed this place so much, I was excited when the hosts told me I could extend my stay for two more nights. Thank you Kevin & Chris for opening your home for me to enjoy

Cole’s Cabin was exactly what we needed for an enjoyable anniversary getaway to nature without needing to rough it. The cabin contained useful amenities (mini-fridge, microwave), there was cell service in the area, the view was lovely, and the short hike to the beach access made it an adventure. We were uncertain about the directions to the beach, but Fred called us right away to guide us in the right direction! He was a very helpful host! 😊 We brought our dogs and were pleasantly surprised the island was pretty accommodating to dogs. Andy’s WIldlife Park and Freddie’s Dog Park are good for hiking with dogs and letting them off-leash. (Many of the other parks prohibit dogs.) The AI Cafe and the Riviera Lakeshore Restaurant allow dogs on their patios. We would definitely book the cabin for an overnighter again. The bed was comfy, there were good pillows, and the bedding kept us plenty warm. It felt very cozy as it rained outside, the rain stopping just in time for us to be able to enjoy the final concert of the summer at the Johnson farm (so much fun!). Anderson Island is beautiful, the community is friendly, and it feels remote, but it’s so close and easy to get to from the Tacoma area. ❤️

Such a sweet set up. Almost like camping but better since there's a mini fridge, fresh cookies, and a comfy bed. The island is very friendly and had a lot of activities to check out (farmers market, free blues concert, hiking, and beach access). Fred, the host, is really fun to talk to and very kind. We would love to come back next summer.
