Billyville is not just a state of mind, it is a place to camp, play, and relax. Located in rustic Bells Crossroads, VA three miles from I-64, Billyville is a work in progress featuring 2 tent and 4 RV sites with electric hookup and lots of space. Wifi, well water from a hose and composting outhouse facilities are available. Other amenities include a six hole disc golf course, little free library.
Within one hour’s ride is a wealth of things to do, experience and see; within reach are the Shenandoah mountains, the University of Virginia and Charlottesville and Lake Anna . There is something for everyone from children to seniors, from outdoor adventurers, to history buffs, arts and entertainment seekers, bargain shoppers and local gourmet food and drink lovers.
At days end you can go to concerts or “clubbing” in town or return to Billyville and enjoy the quiet, peaceful ambiance of a campfire under a starlit sky.
Check-Ins and Arrival Instructions:
Check-ins on weekdays are dependent on my work schedule. If this is your first time at Billyville, I need to be on property to guide you into your site. Please reach out before your stay so we can coordinate. If I am off on that day, check-in is after 1pm. If I am working, it will be after 5pm and occasionally after 7. I am currently testing out some procedures to allow self check-in. We'll see how that pans out.
Anyway, to get to Billyville:
Turn onto Bells Lane. (Dirt Road). You'll see a white fence on your left down the lane about .2 miles. Just after the fence, you'll see a red sign at the beginning of a rope fence. Turn off Bells Lane just after the sign and follow the fence, keeping it on you left.

Peace and quiet equals “Solitude at my farm. I’m just like you. I want to camp at a quiet place in the country where it’s plenty of acres and no houses to look at and a clean bathroom and shower. Well it’s here. I’m Located in Wakefield Virginia. If you’re traveling to Virginia Beach I’m one hour away. From my farm there is a free ferry in Scotland where the ferry departs to Williamsburg just 30 minutes. At my farm I have 5 sites for tent/camping so it’s spaced appropriately apart I have 2 Rv sites totally away for their privacy and a new mini house also properly spaced away. All have a clean picnic table and a fire pit. 100 feet away you’ll find that clean bathroom, shower and a wash station for hygiene. You’ll see the love I put into this and because I love it and my prior guests love it, which means it may be right for you also. In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. Amenities include toilet access, a shower, trash disposal, picnic tables, and potable water. Pets are allowed, as are campfires.

This was a great place to camp. Looked like it has some good amenities but wasn't able to take part because I arrived late and left early. The campsite was clean, private and peaceful. The host was very informative and had good communication. I'd like to come back again.

Best place ever! We came and had our first camping trip as a family. Marvin and his wife were extremely kind, understanding, patient and supportive. My ten year old son absolutely loved camping here at the farm and Marvin made us feel like we were at our other home. We are already planning to go back! What a dream of a trip! Thank you Marvin for ensuring my son and husband are convinced camping is our thing. And being only a hour from
Downtown Norfolk, oh we will def return often as we can.

I would highly recommend Billyville to other Hip campers. Our Host Billy was very quick to respond in messages from the very start. Upon arrival, we were greeted friendly and felt welcomed.
The site is very quiet. We really enjoyed the serenity of an evening fire under the starlit sky.
Billy had got our fire ready to light. All we had to do was light it. Very nice.
The entrance is down a one lane road. Well maintained. Very easy to navigate. We have a 31 foot 5th wheel (13’ high), and had no problems getting in. Billy met us and guided us into our spot. It is a big pull thru.
The site is grassy. Not muddy. Easy to level. Set up with a fire ring, a picnic table, and two Adirondack chairs. There is a 30 amp plug. We have 2 dogs. And was surprised to hear Billy had just finished creating a dog run.
On the property is the Bandshell. Where Billy puts on concerts with other talented musicians. So it being Labor Day weekend, we got to enjoy a concert.
If you’re looking for a very quiet place to stay, this is it.

The campsites were fantastic. Water pressure was wonderful. 30 and 50 amp hook ups beautiful bathhouse. Trails to explore for Miles. Wonderful access to a nice shallow spot on the James River. Great for swimming, putting in your kayak or tube. You will also notice the remnants of a larger infrastructure that was once a private school campus. Lovely quiet spot. The AC in the sugarshack was a lifesaver. Loved the little walking trail and all the little amenities. The host was super nice and helpful as well. Definitely will be visiting again.

4 nights at Solitude at Thornton Farm
First, the hosts were so warm and welcoming. The place is adorable with everything we needed to have a comfortable and quiet long weekend. Melvin even helped is get the grill rolling, and showed my husband how to roast peanuts. He sent a box home with is from his farm so we can try it ourselves. Really could not have asked for a better experience.

This campground is definitely a hidden gem!
Tons of space, full hookups, trails, and a great place for family gatherings. We were at site 11 which was secluded and facing the trees. The bathhouse was adorable with plenty of space. They have a gazebo with lots of picnic tables perfect for parties. The grassy area between the campground and the gazebo is big enough for multiple games of soccer / badminton / volleyball …anything you can think of. There’s hiking, the James River and what appears to be a dog washing area. Also a community fire pit. Can’t wait to come back!

This is my 6th hipcamp adventure (so I feel totally qualified to do this review 😄 🤣). I camped with 3 other people and 3 dogs. We loved the spot. Because we were the only tent campers, it was very private and we got to pick which spot we set up in. We stayed in site 2 whoch was the biggest and most shaded(thankfully because it was HOTTTT). Marvin was great, called me as soon as we got there to let me know he was busy but would be by soon. His place is BEAUTIFUL 😍. Only thing I wish was different was a place to swim to cool off... but that's the only "complaint". Definitely go rest it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed 💕

Friendly and accommodating, was able to help with special requests.
Fire pits were prepped with kindling and (free) fire wood, all we had to do was light a match. Easy and fun.
Sites were were green grass and mostly level.
Remote feeling, yet fairly close to some great places, best Bar-B-Q ever at BBQ Exchange, close to Food Line (groceries) and Tractor Supply (propane) as well as several excellent brew pubs.
At least 3 holes of Disc golf on premeses, I don’t play but saw 3.
