We are grateful for the opportunity to introduce country life and the Shenandoah Valley to travelers from around the world. We love animals, planting gardens, preserving quality food, and hiking in both of the world-famous national parks here.
We built an all-season full capacity hot shower bathhouse with flush toilet, A-frame cabin, bigger electrical service, and wider road entrance for 30ft RVs, and Wi-Fi.
We are located 45 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park. The Byrd's Nest is a river front, primitive campsite on the scenic Cacapon River in Great Cacapon, WV. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :)
This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out.
There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :)
*Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable.

Weekend Trip to Kona's Cabin
This wasn't camping...or even glamping, really. This is a small house in a smaller sized residential community. We could see other houses on either side and across the street easily, so it did not feel like a campsite. However, it's a cute little place that has nice accommodations and we were quite comfortable there. We used the charcoal grill one evening and had a fire in the small brick fire pit two out of the three nights we spent there. The location is convenient to Winchester, about 15-20 minutes away.

Kara’s property is a lovely getaway in the woods. It has all the amenities you may need, and a little extra-like the very nice hot shower. If you are down at the campsite on the river, you have river views all the time, if you are up at the top, you can simply walk down and get a great view. Would stay again!
The glamping option was very nice for when it started to pour down rain. We hung out, played games and still had a great time!

The Little cabin was pretty comfortable especially given how hot it was. I wish we had realized that the wall fan had multiple speeds! :-) we were really thankful that there were no tent campers on the other sites so that we could easily access the river for fishing. The $5 bundle of firewood was an excellent deal and we enjoyed sitting around the fire pit. The town of Berkeley springs is not that far away and was a cute little place to visit with some fun shopping and a lovely little museum.

Super cute!! Watched a ton of movies. Lots of games and reading material. Electric was a huge plus. It gets super hot in there as the temp was 97degrees out. So if you have an extra fan and the electric can handle it, I would suggest if the temps are going to get up there. It did cool off at night. Bed was comfy. It’s not far from main house but still felt private. Had a wonderful time. Thanks again ;)

Weekend Trip to Traveler's Meadow
This was a wonderful stay for us. We got in pretty late and the hosts were super kind and receptive and helped us have a very easy check-in. The place itself is so cute and comfy, it has little LED lights that change color, and is fully stocked with cooking equipment which we used to make some breakfast :). The bathhouse was great and very modern, and we were very comfortable!

2 nights at The Byrd's Nest on the River
We rented both the riverside camping site & glamping cabin for 2 nights. Kara was great to work with & provided detailed, comprehensive information ahead of time so we felt prepared for the trip. The camp site was fantastic! We used 1 platform for a tent & the covered platform was invaluable for hiding from the rain, lounging in the hammock, & hanging out under the lights. The fire pit was ginormous & we really enjoyed the multiple tables & grills. Someone had even left a raised dog bed & dog leads! :) Fishing & swimming were a blast, although the huge, slippery rocks in the water were no joke & the current was pretty intense after a couple of stormy days. Water shoes for everyone are highly recommended. With that being said, our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the water access the whole time.
One thing I wish I had realized (my own mis-reading of the map - no fault of the owner) was how separated the campsite & the glamping cabin are. The owner's "cabin" (house) is actually in between these 2 rentals. The outdoor shower (hot water & absolutely wonderful, but not 100% private as the curtains/door do not provide complete privacy) is underneath the owner's back deck. There's also a hammock under that deck, a fan & the best wifi. Our teenagers especially loved that space, but I didn't understand where it was situated. Cabin = owner's house. The glamping cabin was absolutely adorable. It'd be perfect on it's own for a couple's getaway. Great stay & would definitely recommend!

The Crow's Nest was the perfect glamping getaway for me and my husband. The cabin was comfortable and cozy. We lived all the little details that made the cabin itself a place to explore and discover. There were books, games, movies, fairy lights, stickers, grilling tools, extra blankets, a dog leash, and a book outlining activities nearby.. The outside of the cabin was just as magical with solar lights, a fire ring, chiminea, trees perfect for hammocks, and cute mushroom caps. The porta john was close without being right on top of you and the outdoor shower at the main cabin was spectacular.
We really loved the ride into the camp. Once you cross the one lane, low water bridge, the road quickly turns to gravel and you are driving

Loved the cabin! It has everything you need to enjoy a night outdoors! The cabin had a nice bed with bedding, towels, a mini fridge, and some other small appliances. Bathhouse with a shower is close to the cabin. If you're looking for food in the area I recommend Beards and Broads, it's about 10 minutes away!

Kara's space is SO beautiful and really exceeded our expectations -- so much so that we booked an extra night! The crows nest was perfect for my partner and I and the communal space down by the river is gorgeous. The string lights, multiple platforms, big fire pit, and sound of the river made us feel so easeful. It's also very conveniently located close to Berkeley Springs and Cacapon State Park. Highly recommend.

The Crow’s Nest was great. A perfect little spot next to the river. We had some rainy weather on Saturday, so it was nice to be able to use the furnished cabin/shed during the rain. We plan on going again.
