3 nights at 12 Gates Farms

I enjoyed tent camping on Roni's land. The property and amenities were as described. During An evening walk in the area, we saw cows, a pond with cattails, talked to a nearby neighbor and photographed some beautiful pastures and trees. Very quiet at night. They have a little dog that we made friends with. My Google maps helped us find the place very well.Cell phone service was intermittent afterwards. Would recommend to others

Weekend Trip to 12 Gates Farms

I stayed here with my husband, dog and two kids. I put the kids on two pool floats and they slept comfortably in the floor on those. AC was nice and the creek near the treehouse is magic! We slept great even though a big thunderstorm. Only thing I could've wished for is maybe a coffee pot but we'll remember to bring it next time!

Weekend Trip to Twin Springs Tiny House

Our 4-year-old wanted to go camping (first time!) for his birthday, and this was the perfect location. Directions for arrival were easy to follow, and our drive through the cow pasture was the ideal start. The site is private and comfortable, and Clinton met us a few minutes after we arrived to give us an overview of the location. Between the nearby stream, multiple walking paths, and the comfort of the tiny house, it was an excellent experience. We'll definitely be returning and would highly recommend - especially for younger campers.

Weekend Trip to Indian Camp Lane

We stayed for one lovely night and had a great time. The cabin is very cozy with the wood stove and we had everything we needed. The out house was clean and not smelly, with a clever "toilet paper keeper," for extra tp. The property itself is very beautiful. Lots of happy creatures live here. There's two little dogs to greet you. We met the first one on the drive in and he gave us an escort. Look out for cats in trees, too! There is also a little bird's nest above the door of the cabin. Our hosts were very kind and considerate, and I thank them for wonderful experience and letting us stay on their beautiful farm.

Very nice camping spot. Will definitely be coming back.

Gail’s property was beautiful. The meadow site was quiet and peaceful. There was a fire pit, and picnic table, making it easy for us to enjoy camp! We loved walking the property and seeing the horses as well! We would definitely camp here again

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

This was my 4th time staying at the Hawthorne Hollar cabin if that says anything. It's pretty much my go to campsite for a weekend getaway these days. Moon and Julie are awesome hosts. If you're looking for more info I left reviews for each of my other trips that go into a lot more detail about what makes this such a great place to stay.

Our group loved the location! Adam was easy to communicate with and showed us to our campsite on arrival. The campground was close to Natural Bridge State Park and close enough to Blue Ridge Pkwy for other adventures. The campsite was spacious, quiet, and close to an outhouse. The bath house was attached to a recreation room with AC which was glorious for the afternoon heat. Even better, Elk Creek was just a short walk away, so we were able to cool off there too. We will definitely be staying here again for future camping adventures. This place is also dog friendly which was the cherry on top!

Absolutely loved our stay at this charming privately owned campsite! The grounds are beautifully maintained - everything feels peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully cared for. One of the most magical surprises? The gigantic horses roaming nearby—truly majestic and added such a unique touch to the experience. The outdoor shower was a highlight: hot water, open skies, and the sounds of nature all around. It was both refreshing and relaxing. The composting toilet was also impressively well kept - clean, odor-free, and easy to use. Gail, the host, was amazing from start to finish. She’s warm, responsive, and genuinely cares about making your stay a great one. We highly recommend the stay here!

3 nights at Thunder BRidge

Loved it! Would def go back! Spacious, private, well maintained sites with plenty of space between. Clean bathrooms with hot showers (a luxury after we swam in a nearby swimming hole!). From our site, we could see the bathhouse and the door to the ping pong room- which was awesome and helped our kids stayed in view with a little freedom. Adam was super responsive before and during our stay. Great host. You might want ear plugs JIC. A pack of dogs or coyotes was loud in the distance our 1st night, but quiet the other two. The artist village had an open house when we were there- so many talented people and beautiful works. We had 2 families, and there were spots for both tents (and technically a 3rd if we'd needed it).

Weekend Trip to Magic at Galleywinter

Galleywinter Farm is a gem. It was a perfect escape for our family to relax and realign in every way: our two young boys got to have imaginative play for hours outdoors-alongside the resident cat and in the company of the beautiful horses living on the property. Camp fires, singing, easter egg hunts, collecting rocks-pure joy. My husband had a massage with Tom, and we all delighted in forest bathing, reading, eating nourishing food, and taking in nature and the lovely, peaceful ambience that Gail and team have created there. Next time we will do sauna, more yoga- and stay longer! This is a place for artists, writers, soul seekers, stewards of the land, anyone in need of rest, relaxation, and connection to our source. We had a great stay. At our site we enjoyed sounds of the creek and a few minutes (3-5) walk to the pavilion / restrooms. Thunder BRidge is peaceful, well-maintained, and close to several area attractions. Our 6 & 8 year olds enjoyed the old “obstacle course” and running on the field.

1 night at Magic at Galleywinter

Magical is the best word for this place! The horses, the forest bath, the beautiful forest. We loved camping in the forest site so much. We were the only ones there but even if there had been others, the 3 sites are pretty far apart. The host was very nice and lent us some towels for the forest bath and let us feed one of the horses. We definitely plan on returning.

Thunder BRidge

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.) We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection. Only site 4 is next to the brook. However, the site positions are for the purposes of the listing only. We love living immersed in nature and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frogs and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks. Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping. The cabin is located on an old apple orchard and budding homestead. It is off-grid and powered by solar. The cabin can sleep up to four people with a queen bed, futon, and pullout couch. The kitchen includes a gas range, mini fridge, a sink with running water, and basic kitchen cook wear. A propane heater is available for extra warmth on a chilly night. A shelf equipped with books and games. A propane grill sits on the front porch, and a fire pit out front.
