Weekend Trip to Casa de Keaveny Cabin and Campsite

The best experience I ever had! Jim is very welcoming and friendly. The cabin he built is stuffed with love and intention. Everything is so thoughtful and well made. If you go there, you have to watch the night sky! It is beyond comprehension. Suited for 2, perfect for 4, maybe a little narrow for 6. Bring enough water and supplies. Thoughtful use of resources like water and electricity is mandatory.

1 night at Camping Under the Stars

We were grateful for the electric hookup in Elena's place after a few days in Big Bend! We did not get to meet Elena but her mom was very nice and helped us get situated. Simple setup and walking distance to restaurant. What else can you want!

1 night at Rio Bravo Ranch

This was a great remote spot near Big Bend Ranch State Park. Simple shade structure, totally private. Porta potty not too far away, fire wood if you purchase, ample water.

4 nights at Paisano Azul Ranch

I had a wonderful time, Jason was very kind and accommodating. Looking forward to staying here in the future.

Oh my gosh. This was easily my favorite campsite I've ever stayed at. El Groupo was perfect, and Jason and his animals were so pleasant and hospitable. I can't recommend this place enough. Thanks for everything, Jason!! WE WILL BE BACK!

We camped at Tierra del Sol for a few days while exploring the Big Bend area for the first time. Kyle is a terrific host and answered all of our questions. His property seems remote but is only a short drive off the highway. It is well marked but best accessed the first time during the day.

We had a great week tent camping on Jason’s land. Our site, “El Grupo” provided a quiet, private and peaceful base camp for us to explore from. Jason was incredibly communicative and addressed our every request and need promptly. We’d definitely stay again.

Fabulous campsites, tucked away behind big hills! Kyle is a fabulous host and super friendly. I love rocks and his property has the most amazing rock formations and can find small fossils. He allowed us to take them home, which was special for us. Site 1 & 2 are closest to the bathroom. Site 4 faces a really cool little gulley. We explored so much of the land and it is all beautiful! The bathroom was always tidy and uses a composting toilet. Cleanest one I’ve ever used. I highly recommend Tierra del Sol!

2 nights at Starry Night Retreat

Super great spot that wasn’t too far from Big Bend National Park. Lived up to the name on clear nights.

5 nights at Tierra del Sol Basecamp

Kyle is super nice and came over and gave us the WiFi password. Also, this site has gorgeous mountains surrounding it and has a secluded feel. Definitely better than any of the park campsites. Only downside is that it is probably ~90 minutes from most of the good hikes in the park.

Site 6 is the best area for sure, you’re in your own little land, very private and you’re most protected from the wind. We definitely plan to be back at Kyle’s place for sure, everything was amazing and Kyle was such a nice guy!

Wonderful stay! The showers, goats, and pool were a hit for our crew! Jason is great and the site is close to the NP and gas in Terlingua.

Weekend Trip to Agua Fria Adventure

Getting out to this open area of West Texas was amazing. This spot is a perfect place to disconnect for a few days. If you love geology, this spot has some of the coolest rocks to check out. My two dogs loved being here and didn't run into any other animals or people during our stay. We took the drive slow with my RV but did not have any problems following John's directions.

Paisano Azul Ranch is on 30 acres located by Terlingua Creek. The property is just minutes from the Terlingua Ghost Town and a short 3 mile drive to the Big Bend National park. Come pitch your tent or park your camper amid the peaceful desert hillside with views of plateaus that lead to the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. There is a fire pit on site for you to toast marshmallows or cozy up near, and you can enjoy a bite to eat at the picnic table provided at each site. The picnic tables are placed beneath shade sails. There are two nice and new desert tan flushing Porta-Potties on-site, as well as showers for guests to use. These come in handy after a long day hiking. We hope you'll enjoy the beautiful open sky sunsets, sunrises, and stargazing as much as we do. We are located just 3 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore - you can hike, bike, canoe camp; kayak, off-road, swim, go horseback riding, visit hot springs, as well as visit restaurants, galleries, and listen to great music in Terlingua. There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available by the showers. Feel free to unplug during your stay though. - Seeing other campers on your trip at the campsite is very standard, as the sites are far enough apart to feel like they are yours, but they are not private. - Potable water is provided on-site. We have an artisan well on property that has been certified as drinkable. The showers and potable water is located approximately 1/4 mile from campsites 1-7. Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to your stay.

West Texas. Off grid small house running on solar power and rain water catchment. Very cozy. Plenty of land for camping also, discuss with Jim for pricing, if interested. Mr. Keaveny built the house himself over a 10 year period. Very private, although Mr. Keaveny lives on the property in his Jayco most of the time, and sometimes a camping site is rented ----however always giving the house lots of space. Great place for long term rental, see discounts.

Rio Bravo Ranch

Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road. We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults. One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience. We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views. We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas. We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property. It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey. We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration. Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Tierra del Sol Basecamp

The Tierra del Sol Basecamp is an open desert camping area located within Terlingua Ranch, 3 miles off of Hwy 118, 19 miles north of Study Butte and 22 miles to the entrance to Big Bend National Park. This region of far west Texas is well known for its remote ruggedness and beauty rapidly becoming the go-to place for those wanting to get away from it all, without having to spend a fortune to do it. It’s one of the last frontiers of North America and One of the only two National Parks in Texas. The Basecamp will reside on the 40 acre property. In the center is an area of approximately 6 acres flat, with rising limestone ridge lines to the east and west, open skyline to south with a view of Bofecillos Mountains, an area characterized by volcanic deposits of lava and ash-flow tuff and sedimentary deposits of conglomerates and sandstones. The four mountain tops; Packsaddle, Hen Egg, Panther and Agua Fria Mountains provide an amazing view during the day and at night, breathtaking night time views of the Milky Way and the multitudes of stars to gaze upon unlike any other place in North America. The morning sunrise over the eastern mesa brings its own spectacular views. Surrounding the 40 acres are many things of archaeological wonder. A Rock Hounds dream of minerals, stones and fossilized prehistoric microorganisms, as well as, the potential of finding the fossils of large prehistoric aquatic mammals. Yes, you are free to take a small sample of the thousands of quartz and calcite stones found in huge abundance. As you come to then end of Mailbox Rd., you'll see a residence to your left. This is "The Field Lab", owned by the well know sustainable engineer John Wells. If you'd like to pay him a visit, please contact him in advance.
