Whistling Pines Farmstead is 41 acres of some of the most beautiful land in East Texas. As an active farmstead, camp along the bank of our 1.5 acre pond and wake up to fresh eggs from our chickens.  Our pastures are rotationally grazed by our herd of dexter cattle and heritage breed turkeys, but don't worry -- you won't have to share your tent! Fish in the beautiful, fully-stocked pond, camp in complete privacy in the Field Beyond the Forest!

The Place

Welcome to our expansive property spanning 75 acres, located just outside Sulphur Springs, TX. Enveloped by water, our site is bordered by a serene lake on one side and a tranquil creek on the other. With proximity to both Lake Sulphur Springs and Cooper Lake, it provides an ideal setting to appreciate the beauty of the stars while still being conveniently close to town. Whether you're stargazing or indulging in Sunday Brunch, our location offers the best of both worlds.

The Indigo Hills Prairie & Wildflow

The very best native blackland prairie known to exist in the world. The prairie is surrounded by trees with plenty of shade for camping. If you get hot, take a swim in the spring fed pond that has cool water currents in certain spots. Or take the kids fishing off the fishing pier, and if they don't catch one, I'll give your money back. Come see us,  enjoy nature and have fun.

Sleep Under the Pecan Trees

Explore the 100 acre property that has 15 designated camp sights.... The closest two are about 100 yards apart.  All the sights are near trees. Some Giant evergreens but most are near one of the 200 year old Pecan trees.  Creeks meander through the woods and all meet on the South side of the property. 9 Horses, 20 donkeys and the friendliest mule ever! They Dot the property. Also deer, recoon, squirrel  and an occasional armadillo may visit.  A Great stocked pond and 3 other ponds make for beautiful fishing and photos etc.

Texas Safari Camp

Welcome to Texas Safari Camp

Escape the stresses of city living on this heavily wooded 31 acre pristine wildlife habitat. Relax your body, refresh your mind, heart and spirit. Only one hour east of Dallas but it feels like another world. This piece of east Texas paradise is 20 minutes from Buc-ee's, restaurants, grocery stores and about 25 minutes from Canton First Monday. 

We offer a much more personal experience than any State Park. Your host is Randall Oliver, a woodworking artist whose energy, creative vision and love of the outdoors have transformed this property into the jewel that it is. He has been organizing group campouts for 30 years and enjoys hosting, bringing people together and inspiring a passion for the outdoors. Everyone is sincerely welcomed regardless of race, religion, color, creed or sexual orientation. Randall enjoys sitting around the campfire with his guests, sharing stories, laughter and good will. He can teach your kids how to build a campfire and paddle a kayak. This property is his back yard and the people who camp here are treated like family. 

At the end of a one lane rock road- this is a very secluded, QUIET and safe property. It is perfect for tent campers (sorry no RV's) with abundant clean, flat tent sites. It's positive vibe attracts good people (including a lot of first time campers) and is more peaceful and relaxing than most state parks. It is next to a 950 acre wildlife park. The Texas Zoofari Park has 900 exotic animals, many can be seen from the road (or you can pay to drive through). This can make for some interesting wildlife noises while sitting around a campfire. While it adjoins the wildlife park on two sides, Texas Safari Camp is in no way affiliated with Texas Zoofari Park. 

This is an environmentally important property. This is part of the largest virgin, old-growth forest in Kaufman county. The only clearing has been done around the ponds.  No hunting is allowed. It has never been in ag use and all of the native brush and cover has been left to benefit the wildlife.   

Imagine two ponds in the middle of a forest.  Enjoy swimming and kayaking in the clear water front pond. Kayaks and paddleboards are available on request. Both ponds are stocked with bass, cat, crappie and bluegill. You can hike the jungle trail back to a peaceful, secluded seating and hammock area we call Heaven. 

There is plenty of room for camping around the front pond and four established communal fire pits. You can camp on the front berm for an elevated view of the property. The back pond has two camping areas with firepits. Deep in the jungle, it offers a higher degree of seclusion but it is farther from the parking areas and outhouses. 

There are no preassigned campsites- it is first come first serve. Camping is $22 per person per night. Kids 12 and under are $12.00 per kid per night. Day visits are $12 each for kids and adults, payable in cash upon arrival. Friendly, non barking and leashed dogs are allowed for free. Most people camp around the front pond but you can camp anywhere. Campfires are restricted to the existing fire rings. 

There is a rustic outhouse with a modern, ventilated composting toilet and sink and a hummingbird window touch of class. Water and electricity is available behind my home as well as an open air cold water shower.   

The hand crafted Hummingbird Treehouse has leaded glass windows, screened operable windows and a  loft sleeping area with an operable porthole window. It overlooks the front pond and features a full size bed, lights and outdoor tables and chairs. Bring your own sleeping bags to enjoy this comfortable and classy alternative to tent camping. It rents for  $80 per night for two people. No food, smoking or pets are allowed in the tree house.

Texas Safari Camp Rules

There are no specific site reservations so it’s first come, first served. Tent camping only- no vehicles allowed on the property. Off road wagons are provided for hauling your gear back to camp. Front pond camping areas are 30-100 yards from the two parking areas. Wagons must be returned to parking area after being unloaded.

Careful, humane catch and release fishing only in the two ponds and only single, barbless hooks are allowed.

There is some split firewood and you can gather and burn sticks off the ground. Bring your own firewood is case we are running low. No chainsaws, no cutting, carving or harvesting wood from trees. All garbage (including food scraps) must be packed out. No burning of garbage. 

Parents of non swimming children must provide a personal flotation device (PFD /  life jacket) and personally supervise their swimming. No sun block or insect repellent can be used by swimmers.

 

All forms of hunting, guns, bow and arrows, bb guns, slingshots and weapons of any kind are forbidden.

  

No electronic music is allowed (without ear buds), acoustic music is allowed but there is a 10pm to 8am curfew for noise. 

Campers must be respectful of the property and other campers. Auto alarms must be disabled. Loud, vulgar and drunken behavior, fireworks, generators or anything that disrupts the peace and tranquility of the property is forbidden. Property has minimal cellular service.

This isn't a get drunk and rowdy place. It's got a great vibe and attracts good people.

Shadow Ranch Eclipse Experience

We are an active equestrian therapy center offering our pasture for tent camping with a country view for the 2024 total eclipse.

During your stay at Shadow Ranch we will offer scheduled horsemanship classes at a nominal charge.  We will also have a food truck at scheduled meals, porta potties, and a perimeter fence to secure tents to in the event of a spring storm.

North Hopkins Boondockers

Welcome to the North Hopkins Boondockers. Enjoy a relaxing getaway and connect with nature. We are conveniently located 3.7 miles from Cooper Lake State Park where you can find lots of trails for hiking and biking, not to mention the great fishing they have!

We are only 9 short miles from historic downtown Sulphur Springs. There you’ll find plenty of restaurants and shops to check out. Also located downtown are the world famous glass bathrooms. That’s a must see, once in a lifetime experience!

We offer Cornhole, horseshoes, and volleyball on site. Feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

We have deer during the season, wild hogs, a temporary river, creek, several ponds to fish, area to to ride ATVs, many trees, plus we are working in developing for more activities in the future

The PARK at Brushy Creek

Cozy Bell tent located just outside of Trenton on 55 acres of sloping terrain with a wide creek and acreage beyond the Big Oak for exploring. 

Beautiful sunsets, a clear view of the night sky, a calming creek and an occasional visiting deer make for a relaxing stay.

The property is in transition as we are in the process of creating manicured groves and open pasture areas for the enjoyment of our farm animals and guests so expect mud when it rains and an occasional heavy equipment or tractor siting.  

We rotational graze our livestock between our two properties so they are not always on site.  If they are not at The PARK at Brushy Creek, we invite you to come see them at the property with the big green gate across the road.

There is no electric or wi-fi on property currently. All lighting is solar, or battery powered.  There is water spigot at tent site and a Port-o-let near the tent area.

This is the Country we and our neighbors have livestock and dogs that may bleat, bark, oink, moo, neigh, squeal, whinny, bray, or whine anytime day or night.  

We are located 1-hour North of  Dallas Fort Worth, 30 minutes from McKinney, Sherman, or Greenville, 10 miles to Leonard, Whitewright, and Bonham and just five miles from Trenton.

Two lakes are in close proximity, Lake Bonham and Lake Texoma.  Coming soon two more lakes!: Bois' d Arc Lake and Lake Ray Hall

We're happy that we can open up our land for campers. Before booking please read the following information and site descriptions. We operate a pecan tree nursery and Pecan Orchard. On the south side of the farmhouse is a 80-year-old huge pecan tree. You can enjoy wooded walking paths in the 90-acre forest and pastures, ponds and wildlife, including deer, wild hogs, hawks, owls, roadrunners, doves, cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, and many other species of birds. Small mammals such as armadillos, rabbits, and squirrels are often seen, and the property is also awesome for stargazing. Please watch out for snakes, scorpions, pesky mosquitoes and ticks. This land has been a huge blessing to us and we hope you will enjoy your stay here. Arrival time should be no later than 9pm. Please inquire before booking if your arrival time might be later. We are a 175 acre family-owned Organic farm in North Texas. We focus on sustainability in our agricultural practices as well as in our daily lives. We live off the food and sales of the food the land provides. We have the highest respect for Mother Nature and expect ALL who stay out here to treat Nature with respect. We have been a certified Organic Farm for the past 31 years.Learn more about this land:The camp sites are located on  Good Earth Organic Farm and offers beautiful views of pastures, a 5 acre pond, and our farm.  There is another area away from the pond next to some woods, You are welcome to walk to the lake and fish The campground is secluded from the road and other houses and offers a peaceful vibe. Camp sites are all different and spaced from 300 to 1500 feet from each other. Trees include willow, bald cypress, oak, etc. This is a working farm with live stock so please no dogs, We currently have a composting toilet located near the campground. Fishing is allowed.  For a small fee  we will cut up some wood for your fire. Peaceful, cleaner air and if the are no clouds you can see lots of stars. Come out and enjoy our farm.

Land Of OZ is a place of peace and beauty. If you love the sun shine through the trees and beautiful pond surrounded by nature this is the place for you to come. Active chicken coop and garden. This is where we are now but I would love to have your input while here on how to make it a great place for all to enjoy.

Land of Oz! Sidewalk around one pond with bate fishing and a nice dock to sit and enjoy the surrounding beauty of towering trees. A bit of heaven.  There are several camp sites and room for 5 RV parking  hook up water and electric only. Peace and quite with the beautiful trees and ponds

This was our favorite swing. It had bells that sound like a windchime, and it's next to a garden bed that will probably be really pretty during growing season!

You can pitch your tent anywhere you like, but this was our favorite spot. By the pond, surrounded by a creek, tucked into the trees. Felt very secluded, but was still pretty close to the amenities.
