Overview

Located within a mile of the Rio Grande River along the U.S. border with Mexico, Del Rio is a haven for art and nature lovers and bird watchers in southwest Texas. The vibrant culture draws from both sides of the border and emanates through the music, visual arts, and foods. Thanks to a number of springs and lakes, the area has some surprisingly lush landscapes. The Amistad National Recreation Area hosts a number of recreational activities on one of Texas’s largest lakes, known especially for its bass fishing. Paddlers won’t want to miss Devils River State Natural Area, home to some epic scenery. Del Rio camping options include tent and RV campsites and cabins set amid the mesquite and sage of Texas brush country. For public campgrounds, head to the Amistad National Recreation Area or Devils River State Natural Area. Or, venture further to Kickapoo Cavern State Park, home to over 20 caves.
