This ranch is the home of children's book author Cowgirl Annie. This property is a working Ranch. Some of the campsites are in an abandoned gravel pit so you will be parking on a sandy gravel base. I like to let my guests decide where they want to park. I may have to move guests to a different site than the one they booked depending on what is happening on the ranch or the weather. There are cottonwood stands close by that you can hike through to the river. A wide variety of wildlife live in this area, so no telling what you may see or hear. You will have a big area to yourselves. I have tried to plan areas so you won't be disturbed by other campers. I do not groom hiking trails. You will be at one with nature. You may want to bring bug spray, sometimes the mosquitos and horseflies are bad. Wall Drug and the Badlands National Park are about a twenty-minute drive. Mount Rushmore is about an hour and 15 minutes.

Hillview Lodge was a cozy dream home away from home. I wish I had time to stay more than one night, but I do plan on returning in the future. I didn’t use the shower, but the bathroom house in general was clean and just a minute walk away from Hillview. I used the firepit at night too, ate some s’mores that were provided + had coffee in the morning before departure from provided Keurig coffee station. Would definitely recommend to any camping fantasy loving nerd!

Weekend Trip to Battle Creek Camping Resort

What an experience it was spending the night here! Loved the surrounding countryside and how quiet it was being here. The pod was small in the inside but the bed was comfortable. Enjoyed the electric fire as it provided white noise while falling asleep. The bathroom station was very clean! I had to use the bathroom along with a few other guests and since there were individual rooms, it was great. Conveniently close to Mt Rushmore NP which was a bonus for me. Then headed to Grand Teton NP which wasn’t that far of a drive from the campground. I felt safe the whole time I was there as a solo female. Definitely worth the stay!

Very pretty and very quiet place to rest and recoup. Love seeing the cows up, close lots of turkeys and listening to the tree frogs at night. I would highly recommend anyone coming up to stop and camp there. We’re driving a class a 40 foot motorhome although it’s tight getting in we did it with no problem.

The host provided all of the details in a welcome message before we arrived. This place was like the spa of camping. You could arrive with just the clothes on your back and be fine! The bathrooms were clean and equipped with soap, showers, fresh towels, and even a blow dryer! We loved the outer hobbit home appearance too— so quaint! The cleanliness and decor are top notch. At our dome site, we loved the outdoor seating area and fire pits! The s'mores kit was a welcomed treat of hospitality as well! We loved the modern, cozy, warm decor and furniture inside. Everything was beautiful! The beds are firm— which is great if that’s your preference. The bedding and pillows felt like luxury! The coffee cups and drink options were really wonderful! The A/C was great during the day and the fireplace place was so helpful when it got cold in the night! We stayed very comfortable and didn’t want to leave! Loved the communal game and grill area along with the dinosaur and alien attractions! Great place to stay with no complaints!

This is definitely one of the most beautiful campsites! The views were absolutely stunning! This site is very true to its name— cowboy country! It’s more rugged and very secluded (outside of the other campers)— so come prepared. We saw turkeys and deer. The camp toilet was helpful. There is a single hammock available for resting. The host was very responsive and clear on instructions. She offered directions and tips in advance of our stay and even provided a contact number in case we needed something. It was a fun touch to buy her book ahead of time to connect my kids to the land a little bit too! Quick and easy set up once we got to our spot and the ground was surprisingly not too uncomfortable in spite of being on gravel. We feel it’s best for more experienced campers if you are tent camping.

Cowgirl Annie went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. Very friendly and accommodating. Was available if I needed anything. Plenty of space for my 30' travel trailer. Great place to stargaze. Saw a bald eagle on the gravel road coming in. It's primitive, but peaceful. Would gladly stay there again.

The location was beautiful and really perfect for our family since we wanted to sightsee a couple of places. It was quiet and the stars were beautiful since the location is out there. Some nice touches were a clean bathroom, showers, clean towels, marshmallows and graham crackers and soft bedding. Some things our family would like to make other families aware of (and we believe would be great changes to make the money more worth it)- there is no water anywhere to put out a fire at night. With it being 90 degrees while there, we couldn't waste any drinking water to put out the fire. So even having a bucket of sand there for campers to put out fires would be a great touch so the smell of smoldering fire doesn't occur all night. Families should note that there is only one bathroom and it is a LONG walk in the middle of the night with kids from the spruce dome. Having one more bathroom installed in the middle or the other end would be amazing for families! The zipper on the dome was broken so we felt kind of bad having to open and close the loud door during the night. Hopefully we didn't wake the neighbors. I'm guessing this is something that will be fixed in the future, but it would have been good to have known ahead of time so we could have maybe upgraded to a different site. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others, but wanted to share so other families know. Beautiful landscape, friendly owners, cute wildlife, and good location.

This is great place to stay, very well taken care of and clean. If we had more time to stay we would have. Stayed in the hobbit like home, felt all the cozy shire vibes. The host was great at responding! 10/10 recommend and stay again.

The scenery and lodgings were 6 stars! Everything was so nice we figured it would make up for barrack shower stalls and pit toilets, but No! We were pleasantly surprised again by the individual bathrooms in the restrooms and shower building with fresh fluffy towels! I hope to stay again, and I’m definitely telling my friends!

We absolutely loved staying here for one night! We chose to go into Keystone for a quick dinner, but wanted to get back in time to watch the sunset from the outdoor patio area and have a fire under the stars. The little touches, from the S’mores kit to the decor were unbelievable. The bathrooms were a welcome surprise with lots of personal showers and toilets in the bathroom area. Would completely recommend staying here to anyone I know!

Great location if you’re visiting the Badlands — easy to get to from the interstate and lots of space. I’d recommend bringing bug spray, though, as there were quite a few mosquitoes.

I loved this place. I have not camped since I was a little girl. So I was nervous, however this spot was definitely a great place to start glamping. Spacious, clean, great customer service from the owner, and a view of the stars that will give you goosebumps! Will be back

My husband and I stayed here twice on our summer vacation trip. The setting is gorgeous and the camp hosts are fantastic people. They were exceptionally responsive to any needs we had. We highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
