Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? You be the judge.
Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. Any donation to show appreciation for its use, if even for a single night, is a valuable support to our efforts.
*** Special Note: Heirloom has one full-hookup site for medium sized setups, that we use for long term month-to-month stays. Heirloom is our home, so we are judicious in determining that the guests that stay there are a good match for us and them.

We had a great weekend. There was alot of rain on our weekend there but when the sun peaked out, we boated and swam on the lake, fished off the dock and had a great time. The boys camped and the girls stayed in the farmhouse. Jesse was an excellent host. The area was beautiful!

We had such a peaceful and restorative stay at Alissa’s land. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much love and care have gone into creating this little sanctuary. Seth and Alissa have truly built a beautiful “fortress” of calm ~ a place that feels tucked away from the noise of everyday life.
What stood out most was the incredible attention to detail throughout the property. Every corner feels thoughtfully designed to help guests relax and unwind. The serenity here is genuine; we spent our days enjoying the quiet beauty of the land, with our son and furbabies completely at ease. The hospitality was warm and genuine, and the breakfast options were a real highlight ~ delicious, comforting, and made with care.

2 nights at TRAIL MAGIC
What a great private spot!! It was just me and the tent. There was a pretty bad storm rolling in and I needed a solid place to stay for the night and I found Carla's spot. It was absolutely perfect and comfortable and the big canvass tent/yurt was exactly what I needed during my camping trip. I asked Carla for some suggestions of things to do the next day and she pointed me to some awesome waterfalls, Lake Jocassee at Devils Fork state park, and a great place for horse back riding. I ended up staying an additional 2 nights. 1st night there was a gnarly storm with no problems, 2nd night was pretty chilly and the heater kept the tent perfectly warm and cozy all night, and my 3rd night was enjoyed hanging outside the tent enjoying the night time wilderness. Carla is a great host and I will be back for sure in the near future!! Thanks again Carla! See ya soon

Weekend Trip to Heirloom Hamlet
We spent this past weekend at Heirloom Hamlet celebrating my wife birthday, and it ended up being one of those stays you don’t forget.
Curt and Ani have created something truly special here. The cottage is entirely custom-built, and you can feel the time, care, and intention that went into every detail. It’s not just a place to stay, it reflects a year of hands-on work and passion, and it shows in the craftsmanship and overall feel.
One of the most thoughtful touches was walking into the cottage and finding a birthday cake waiting for my wife. We didn’t expect it at all, and it says a lot about the kind of hosts they are.
The property itself feels like a quiet little bird sanctuary. Free-range chickens wandering around, constant songbirds in the background, it honestly felt like a bird haven tucked into the coastal pines and oaks. There’s also a massive 200+ year old live oak right in the center of the property that really stands out. It has a presence to it and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the whole place.
The design of the cottage strikes a great balance, custom and modern, but still warm and grounded in the setting. Nothing feels generic.
If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and built with real intention behind it, this place delivers. We’ll definitely be back!

Lots of fun!! Very pretty spot. Nice and shady. Fishing poles and tackle are NOT included so bring your own. One thing I would like to make people aware of is that the bathhouse is on the other side of the property so prepare for a walk when you plan on using it. But it was a beautiful place and I would absolutely come again. (Maybe in the fall 😉)

This was our first stay in a full RV and it was great! Nice to have a full bathroom and kitchen, and Ron included everything we would need, including paper products and soap! He’s a friendly and respectful host and even tolerated our dog’s stranger danger.
The property feels hidden away and is no more than five minutes from anything you might need during your visit. The state parks pass was a great bonus!
This was our seventh visit to Edisto and I hope to use this spot as our home base during future trips! Thank you for a great place to stay!

Weekend Trip to Sweetwater Lake Campground
We tried the glamping site our first time at Sweetwater Lake Campground. We were very pleased with the amenities they provided. It was so quiet and peaceful although the park was what looked like full capacity with rv's, we felt like we were all alone in the woods camping. Truly a beautiful spot we will book again.

Stay at Ron's camper for the 3rd time and will stay again next month. This is a sweet, private spot on the island clise to everything. Kid's rode their bikes to the state park and education center. I feel safe here. If you're not used to camper living it may not be for you. We used to pull a camper to the state park campground and loved it. Now I get to show up and Ron has the place all set up for us. We love it.
