The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. Our property is close to Allegheny River access with a local boat ramp in Reesedale, and a fishing pier at Lock 8. You can take the locks all the way to Pittsburgh from here! There are several ATV trails that have easy access because you can legally ride on the township roads! A lot of wildlife to see including deer, bear, fox, coyote, several bird species and bald eagles. We're close to State Gamelands for hunting. You're welcome to eat any fruit that has ripened here during your stay. The miles of ATV trails are also fun to hike, or ride your horse on. Campfires allowed, leashed pets allowed...must be leashed at all times...dogs, cats, horses, Bring your pets! There is a spring, with potable water, on the property. Beautiful sunsets here, plus an amazing view across Reesedale road. You might catch a rainbow too if it rains! Our personal favorite view is the vast nighttime sky... Perfect place for stargazers. Watch the beautiful sunrises and "moon-rises" over the tree tops. You can run generators anytime, but please be considerate of other campers. Very Private location. There is a bar/restaurant close by in Adrian. It's 10 miles to downtown Kittanning, where festivals and concerts in the park are held, plus more restaurants, stores, and rails to trails for bike riders. There are fishing ponds and large glacial rock formations nearby. Tours to the places mentioned can be scheduled for a fee if we're available. We will have a small map of the area with places marked. You're welcome to cut and use fallen trees. Please don't bring firewood from other counties due to spread of diseases and destructive insects. After the death of lake lucys founder Raymond Mealy in 2007 the amusements and train were all removed as well as the zoo. The Steinman family purchased the property in 2017 and began remodeling the pavilion and putting in water and sewer lines to be able to use the campground and pavilion again. This was a wonderful property there was so much to do within a short distance wish we could have stayed a whole week. Hosts were very hospitable delivering firewood and giving us a shuttle so we could pick up our kayaks after a day of paddling they're also very knowledgeable of the area and we're able to point out a few things that we took advantage of being able to do that we would not have found if it wasn't for them

The host was outstanding, the spot was super cute and easy to camp at and it was a great experience. The spot is right off the road, across the street from a stream and down the street from a dam where you can easily go hang out and/or fish without a lot of other people around. There's a picnic table, swing, trash can and fire pit, as shown in the pics. The pond is right next to the campsite, yet somehow I did not get bothered by a single mosquito even though they eat me alive in my own backyard that does not have any kind of water nearby. It was really convenient and just a super easy place to camp. My only warning to other campers is not to park too far in beyond the fire pit- my dumb arse got a Jeep Gladiator stuck in the mud. Susan and her husband had to come tow me out, which they did with ease and they were really nice about it, even though I interrupted their entire Sunday. I can't recommend them enough. Thank you.

We had a great experience at Burnhead Grazings. The two campsites were scenic and spacious. The stream site felt very private and close to farm and accessing the facilities. Moire was a gracious host and cooked us a delicious breakfast. Emmy gave an enthusiastic and informational tour of the farm and we were excited about seeing the various animals on the farm. Overall we had an excellent experience and we can't wait to come back in the future!

We came here to celebrate my boyfriend’s 30th birthday and had a few friend’s join us for a few days and it was a wonderful experience! This was our first time using Hipcamp so we weren’t sure what to expect but our experience tops any camping experience we’ve had previously! The weather was beautiful with it being warm and sunny during the day and nice and cool during the nights! It was so cozy and quiet! I loved listening to the sounds of the frogs in the pond near the site and hearing the rushing water in the near by river! It was really nice looking up at the stars at night too! I also loved how many butterflies there were flying around! Susan was a very responsive and attentive host, making sure we had everything we needed and I would recommend this site to anyone looking for a nice peaceful and quiet weekend camping trip!

Everything about this camping destination is special. The ambiance of the environment is hard to beat, we stayed adjacent to the stream and tied our hammocks up right alongside the water. We enjoyed our conversation with Moire and with Randy and our dog had a fun play session with their dogs. We forgot to make our way to the swing overlooking the pond but next time we visit we'll be sure to remember. You won't regret staying here, what a treat!

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with no cell service and stunning scenery, this is the perfect spot! Our jobs can be so consuming, and this getaway was exactly what we needed to unwind, camp, and reconnect with the outdoors. This was our 3rd camping trip this year, and without a doubt, the best place we’ve stayed yet. I didn’t check the mailbox right away (which had a tablecloth inside), so I made a last-minute trip to town to buy one—turns out, I didn’t need to! The guest book is such a great touch; reading everyone’s notes had us laughing and appreciating the simple joys of camping. Morning coffee by the pond, with the sun shining and birds singing, was absolute perfection. We explored a bit but also spent plenty of time simply relaxing and napping—and it was wonderful. Big shoutout to Susan, who had our fire already going and plenty of firewood waiting for us. Considering it poured the entire drive there, that was a huge help! We’re already planning our next trip back—can’t wait to return!

I camped here in June 2023, and for the fourth of July in 2025; it's always a delight to visit and listen to stories by the Hosts Moire and Randy at breakfast! Very polite and friendly, they have two dogs, one is a corgi who is free range and wanders the property. Between the farm animals, wildlife and stunning firefly population, the surrounding scenery always dazzles me when I stay here. The creekside spot is the way to go! Especially during the hot, dry season, the creek is nice to soak in. Plenty of space, firewood, and room to relax in my tent with my bf and his dog. Town is 5 minutes away, including a Giant Eagle for groceries and other conveniences. We had a lovely time!

Had a great Memorial Day weekend camping in our van! The site was perfect and felt secluded, but was easy to find near a quiet road. Even though it rained the first two days, there was plenty of tree cover to keep it from feeling like a downpour. Loved being close to the picturesque pond where we could hear the frogs calling each night. It was sooo nice having a fire pit and picnic table already set up, as well as a mailbox full of other little amenities and guest book with other campers’ messages. There was no Verizon or Mint Mobile cell service, which was nice to let us disconnect. Thanks for a great site that let us novice campers have such a fun weekend!
