Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. This riverfront, fully equipped, beautifully crafted treehouse is not your average child's treehouse, but kids are certainly welcome. Walk up the easy 14 steps into this A Frame tiny house and you'll be surprised at the roominess. Inside you'll discover a full kitchen, full bathroom with shower, living area with sofa bed sectional, dining area, and loft with a queen bed. Step out on the deck, just a stone's throw from the river and listen to the sounds below of the gurgling moving water over the rocks. This was our second visit - the first time we camped in tents. This time we stayed in the Acorn Palace, and it was everything I dreamed it would be. Such a perfect spot to camp in luxury! Kristen provides so many little touches to make the Palace the perfect cabin. She was welcoming and accommodating, and super easy to communicate with. We will definitely visit again!

Having 2 bathrooms is also a great perk especially since there were 4 of us. Host was helpful and informative. Teens enjoyed it as well. Would definitely recommend.

Very quiet, very private and peaceful setting. Three nights is just not enough time. Take all of your fishing gear including bait with you- If you don’t have a 4WD, it’s not a place for you, lol. The roads to get to it are a bit rough but well maintained but rough- hard to explain. I loved it. Bruce- great host! Clean place. Small college fridge- bring an extra cooler. Hot tub nice but needs clean otherwise awesome extra. Worth it! Going back!

It was nice to have the cabin and running water / toilets near by… we enjoyed hiking all the trails, met a nice couple … when we comeback we won’t stay in the Stanley cabin because cars drove right by our window a few times each night and people were partying at the main building at 2am one night so our sleep was not good

A beautiful and serene landscape, Donnie's small but ample farm backdrop was inviting and welcoming. The off-grid cabin set back in the woods was very private and nestled, with a cool evening temperature because of the wooded canopy. I recommend keeping the "screen" door open to fall asleep to the sounds of crickets.

As soon as we pulled in to freedom run Ranch we knew we would enjoy ourselves. The horses had a great place to stay with big grassy pens and stalls for nighttime in a big old Beautiful barn. The owners were very gracious and helped us with everything. The Cabin is super cute! There are nice places to sit outside in the shade. I would definitely recommend a stay here. Though we only stayed one night, on our trip through the area, we would definitely stay again.

Weekend Trip to Treehouse Waters On The River

Bruce’s place exceeded our expectations! The treehouse was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The riverfront location was the highlight—our family spent hours swimming, fishing, canoeing, and floating. Evenings around the campfire making s’mores and cooking steaks over the fire made for unforgettable memories, and the hot tub overlooking the river was the perfect way to end the day. The treehouse itself was comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen, a cozy loft bedroom, and beautiful views from every window. It felt private and peaceful while still having everything we needed. If you’re looking for a quiet escape surrounded by nature, this is the perfect spot. We can’t wait to come back!

Loved the complimentary snacks for us and mini milk bones for the dogs. So close to the hikes and the town. Gorgeous land with a trail that was flourishing with a variety of mushrooms and salamanders too.

3 nights at Primitive Cozy Cabin

Austin's property is the perfect glamping getaway! My husband, our dogs, and I loved connecting with nature here. Waking up to deer and birds right outside was incredible. Between relaxing on the swing, hiking the nearby trails, and taking a mineral soak at Berkeley Springs, it was the ultimate relaxing trip. We can't wait to come back!
