Camp is on 50 acres with a pink marked trail to Red Bank Creek on the western border and back up through a hemlock forest along south border. A small stream runs through the property and forms a rocky delta in Red Bank Creek. All camp sites are on the eastern border and close to the main road to access property. Hike, enjoy the sound of the stream tickling through property, stargaze, or rest, watch nature's critters, read or just relax in a hammock. No hunting on property but fishing permitted along "river" aka Red Bank Creek. Please keep fires in firepit and noise levels low. Set up to be most natural, minimal mowing, and sites meant to be more private. We let you know if you have others on property. No running water or flush toilets on sites unless in your self-contained camper. A compost loo provided. Lots of kindling can be easily gathered for a fire. All ready for your summer expedition! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a 4 seat table as well as some cots makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group! Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 40 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods. Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and a picnic table. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

We loved our stay! Made a last minute booking because we were supposed to camp in the Allegheny National Forest but the forecast was all rain. This was a great find because it scratched the camping itch but also was dry and comfortable and convenient! Very quiet and private setting, with a cozy interior. The host was very responsive to my last minute questions. If you’re looking for a rustic backcountry feel with some comforts/amenities, this is a great spot!

Weekend Trip to Mountain View Camping

The a frame was super cute, kept us dry, and the the restroom set up was really convenient. The land is beautiful, with a little stream, mossy and lush. No complaints other than the aframe is not sealed like a tent would be, so there were a lot of bugs in there all night. Not just mosquitoes or flies but spiders, caterpillars, slugs, ect. There is a really nice mattress in there, but its a single so it makes the set up much better suited to one person. Although he did provide a pretty nice inflatable camp pad for the second person, just was not the comfiest or most roomy but thats to be expected and of no fault to the host. There is a bit of a walk down a trail from the parking area to the camping area. The host was kind and very communicative.

We loved our stay in the Tiny House on the hill. It was perfect for us. It was quaint, wooded, and secluded but close to Mcconnells Mills and Moraine State Parks. Even if you just wanted to relax by a fire in the woods and cook meals on the Blackstone and chill. It is perfect. Lawrence was very easy to communicate with and everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out. We would definitely recommend to others and will more than likely return for another visit.

Such a beautiful location! Feels like a hidden piece of heaven. Our dog Annabelle enjoyed being off leash for the first time, cabin is very cozy, great dvd selection. Entering the creek has some unexpected footing, definitely best to wear water shoes and use some caution until you’re familiar with where you’re hanging out. There were tons of these beautiful dark blue and pale butter yellow butterflies chasing each other around. Best vacation spot we’ve been too so far!

The Nest was as advertised: quiet, away from other cabins, a great opportunity to unplug, and had all the amenities we needed. The creak was so enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend hiking boots for hiking in Minster. The Shaw House in Sheffield is a delicious place for bar food, and reconnecting if you need to. There is a beautiful new covered area with the grill that looks close to new and a new picnic bench. It is however the flattest spot on the site. Be prepared to walk on uneven ground and up/down throughout the site, especially getting to the creek. No problem if you are in shape. I would not recommend it if you have any trouble walking. We tried fishing but no luck getting any nibbles. Loved the swing by the fire pit! The cabin is a bit tight especially if you want to eat inside. Ben and his mom were SUPER communicative. We unfortunately had trouble with the water flow stopping. We drive into town to call Ben and he gave us a few suggestions which unfortunately didn’t work for us so we cut our trip a day short. Ben is easy to work with and does right by his guests. Very trustworthy owner.

This is a really nice quiet place to relax and unplug. The owner and his family were very helpful and there’s plenty of amenities available while still feeling rather off grid. Got to fish, sit by the fire and enjoy a fresh summer meal off the grill under the pavilion. Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back!

Weekend Trip to Sunnyday's Forest

Gerard's property is a wonderful place to stay, and he is super communicative, flexible, and generous! I loved meeting his animals - especially his dog. We brought carrots for the horses, who are super friendly. The cabin is in really good condition and is warm and waterproof. We stayed in tents however as we wanted to sleep outside. There is lots of space for tents but it was great to also have a nice dry place for storage and dining during a rainy weekend. My friends and I spent some time in Pittsburgh and it is very easy to get to the city from Gerard's property, only about 30 minutes. I would highly recommend staying here!

We had such a great Father’s Day weekend at the Tiny Home in the Hill! Lawrence and Carolee were wonderful hosts, very responsive and accommodating. We loved this adorable cabin on the hillside especially with the riverfront and the proximity to the ANF. We made it to Jakes Rocks for cycling, Minister Creek for hiking, and also Hector Falls for a short hike. There’s no cell service, which was a great way to unwind. The little cabin has everything you need, feels very homey and locals are super friendly. Make sure to stop at the Blue Jay Inn for food.

The cabin was great especially during the sudden rain storm that rolled through a few hours after we got there. We already had our tent set up for the night and slept under the stars. Around 11pm the horses were up around the tent and we were greeted by them on our way out the next morning. We had plenty of wood for our camp fire that he set up by the cabin and there was a lot of down branches that we collected and used as well. Communication was very thorough on where everything was, where to go, lock codes, etc. The outhouse was extremely clean too! We would definitely stay again and would love to experience some horseback riding!
